So I've joined the family as some of you might have noticed on the product registration page/thread.
Those of you with both versions of the rebuildable part: Which do you prefer. I have a zapper, so making the wires is not a problem. From purely vape perspective, which do you prefer?
last night I've made my own adaptation of @BishopHeal's quad highlander, except I went for half an ohm. his 0.2 sounded to harsh. However the 0.55 was not bad at all. Can maybe go a little lower even still. Gonna retry with 4 x 1.5ohm coils next time.
I love the old part. You who has the new part... what is your input?

I think there's no matter of taste but only the way you want to vape.
If you like multiple coils, I think you hane to make them in the ceramic style Ithaka.
If you want more air for microcoils or you don't like NR wire, you choose the update.

On the new Ithaka rebuildable part. What guage of heating wire are people using?
Not on micro coils - just on 4 or 5 wraps around the wick(s).
0.20? 0.25? 0.30? Ribbon?

Many use diffrent wires as they built diffrent setups.
But if it maybe of any guideness I found for my likening that with regular silica
I prefer ribbon first or 0.20 kantal,as both are softer to wrap and there for apply
Less pressure on the silica wich provide better wicking.
I found that Silica wicking capability is reduce if too much pressure apply on it,
And if you wrap not tight then heavy gouge wire don't make good contact with wick.
So the softer the wire it easy to wrap it tight while not cutting or limiting juice flow.
That for none micro,for micro and cotton I prefer the the 0.30 gauge as it's more stable
When inserting cotton in it,or when changing cotton,it stay in place and won't move to much.
But you may want to have more then one gauge to experiment and find suit you better,
With your builts.
Ahah. So wrapping too tight will impede the wicking. Thanks Itshak. It's obvious now I think about it - but it hadn't dawned on me before.
I'll get some ribbon and 0.20 Kanthal then as a start.
I have used cotton - but as I've a load of silica and I'm pretty OK with it, I'll stick with it for a while longer.

I like to use the 0.4mm ribbon Kanthal wire, as I do not configure it with too low resitance coil (around 1.3 ohms), the 0.4mm ribbon wire gives me a good balance: resitance / number of wraps.
The 0.5mm ribbon wire is more difficult to work with and I feel it takes longer to heat.

With the ribbon - how do you manage to wrap it on the posts?
Do you just "trap" it? Or do you wind it on - then tighten the bolt/screw?

do you think it is possible to get more air for the original Ithaka? is there maybe the chance do design a mouthpiece witch is a little bit wider ? Or do you have a other Idea ??

I think that for that a new center pin with a bigger internal diameter is needed, but maybe it would not be possible due the diameter of the hole on the ceramic base for the center pin.
Widening the actual center pin internal diameter, with a slightly larger drill bit could increase the airflow, but I think it would be a difficult task and the resultant center pin would be very fragile.
exactly as Ariel said Stan. We need a new ceramic housing, a new plastic nut under the housing and a new center post
Sounds like a plan how about and i know i have mentioned this before along with more air flow for Ithaka but perhaps lowering the opposite sides so the wires fit better i thinking if in the x style two channels lower to allow wire and wick more room and more possible builds just a thought.
