Our REO family has grown huge in the past year. Mostly because of metal REOs and the many improvements Rob has made on them…..and still improving. Not to mention all the new colors combos plus the new finish textures and the engraving too.

Like so many others I too have been waiting for this announcement for a long time. Ah yes, Wood REOs where it all started. From someone who does only wood REOs I want to thank you Rob. :thumb:

My name is Gil and I’m a Woodaholic! ;)

^^ Ya, what he said :D

I do have one metal REO and its my "beater" but I have yet to find anything that is ruff enough to beat it up any.
Honestly I have never even roughed up any of my woodvils and I take them everywhere. They have been mountain climbing, mountain biking, skiing, out on boats, and everything else I do. And the darn things never fail and look brand new.

There is a huge misconception that wood mods are somehow fragile ???
That is not true, they actually take the day to day abuse better than the aluminum with any finish.

I have a question.
When Rob posts the pics and progress reports, will it be in a dedicated thread that is closed to chatter or will it be in the free for all here? Just because it would be really nice to just see only his progress without having to wade through all the drooling and appreciation (which I am guilty of as well of course!)

I was thinking the same thing. 1 thread to discuss the new woodvils only

My subscription threads are getting clustered :p

I'll agree about some of the Woods being tougher and many of mine have seen some rough times including "swimming" but there are some I wouldn't risk with rough use. First that comes to mind is any of the spalted and many (not all) of the highly figured. Some of the really dense, least likely to dent, can be prone to splitting. Both of my pre owned Purpleheart Woodys, original REOs, each has a knocked off corner and both developed hairline cracks in their body backs. Both of those came with chipped "shoulders" but otherwise no dents or dings. Not sure when the back split happened but it suffered many months of being dropped onto concrete and rocks, by DH, and lots of hot tub swims by Feisty. Robert discovered the body split when I sent it to spa for split at top, front. But through all its abuse outside still looked unblemished.

I rehomed Walnut that looked like it had seen a lot of use. Finish worn off in places but wood unmarked and no dents.

I'd like to hear from Ebony owners who have subjected theirs to "abuse". I have three rehomed and they look new but I don't know if they were "pampered' in their previous homes.

Your Lil' Gem ebony mini survived life here at the circus...my REOs don't swim, but they do high dive out of my hands, off of counter tops, get left outside, and so on.

Usually the pics show up in the thread announcing the run has started. Like this thread! Yes, there is a lot of conversation, but it all adds to the excitement of the build.

I will be putting the pics on the Timeline thread. Most people try to keep comments to a minimum on that thread. It helps a lot when pics are easy to find.

Lil' Gem is a tough one then. She looks great. Now that I have a good supply of my Silver Anodized Workhorses the WOODS don't see grungy work but having all hard floors they, too, always have the risk of dives out of hands, off counter tops, being left outside, and so on.

I originally liked using the Woods in hot tub, with native 801 attys, as the attys blew out well and vaped well and just a wipe out of Wood and continue vaping, all without leaving hot tub. I most usually let metals dry a day before using, after a bath, but I've let a few metals go swimming, blew them out (which doesn't get all moisture out of firing pin area, behind delrin cover), and continued using, I'm not so concerned about a short from water behind door. I still prefer to let them dry a day after swimming or bath.

BTW... I don't encourage letting any woods go swimming but mine have survived quite a few swims. But they have been Teak, Curly Oak, and Purpleheart, and all were well oiled inside.

My rehomed Cocobolo doesn't see much light at all, therefore isn't used much and kept in a somewhat dark cabinet. I want to be sure the Howards Hard Paste Wax, with UV protection, does work, as I want to keep the rich red color it still has. Any UV will darken or change some woods even if it is from filtered light, indoors, and especially florescent lighting. Cocobolo is one wood that will darken. Purpleheart looses some purple and goes brownish. Sometimes the wood lightens, sometimes darkens, and sometimes changes. Most of the reddish woods go towards brown.

Can a CNC machine reduce any portion of your REO wood process Rob?
Yes it does make my life much easier and should speed things along . Its one of the reasons I will even attempt a wood run of this size . I will be doing all the wood working while Wayne and Todd deal with the metal mods and atomizers . I love building wood mods I am ready to have at it

While not a nerd, it's nice to see some things don't change. Autobuyeverywoodvil.......

How many do you own now?

so nice to see you, deb!

as of last week, i have a handful. but one, perhaps two, appear to have developed a bit of wanderlust. hopefully the sale (or, ahem, my program) will work out so i won't need to lose a finger or two :)
