The wires in the wood REO's had me concerned at first. That is why the Grand seemed like a wiser choice for durability.

But I have many wood REO's now. I have never had a fault in the electrical parts of a wood REO. The wires are in channels and hardly visible. The soldering is solid.

I have no problems at all with buying wood REO's. They require a different type of care. No putting in water to wash!

Worth every bit of time spent to keep the wood waxed and to keep them in good condition.

wax on.........wax off:facepalm:

hmmm…thought I had found my mod on the picture thread, but the older version doesn't have the button! must not be the same mod….

I think the one on the left in the "then" pic might be the one I bought from RHP :)

Edit: not mine, missed the brass button on the "then" pic. (Old eyes and poor lighting strike again)

I wonder if Rob ever replaced the button with the hole? It could have happened... maybe?

No no. The "then" picture is not the pic of my mod. My mod is an older version that had the brass button (still inTact). It may be your mod though Gid!

Nope not just the button, if you look close one has the rounded shoulders and the other is the more squared off model.
Two different runs of woodvils.

Nope. Close but not quite the same.

The grain pattern does not match. If you look at the door closely on the one on the bottom you see a darker streak on the right hand side that goes from top to bottom. Then another thin dark streak that is closer to the plunger.

I think the "now" one is the older version. Three things make me think so. Plunger in the door, REO on the door, and the corners are more rounded.

Robert did do some custom REO's. So finding one that was done at a later time but with the plunger is possible.

I have a few that were custom ordered. Hard to find, but a true treasure.

I have one that was originally a square Woody, native 801. As the story goes it was sent to Robert to round corners some, sex change, and extra door made for it. I'll see if I can get a pic taken. I'm forgetting right now but Robert may have put new squonk hole in where button was originally. If you've seen and inspected enough REOs it's much easier to put them in a date range.

Mine has the rounded shoulders, but the button is black, not brass (as compared to the one in the "then" pic)
