Seriously.. Who wants to vape starting at 4.5 volts and have it go down to 3 then up to 7?

I don't know, really. I can understand the desire to start off high, heat up a coil, then bring the power down.

You can create your own PWM device from scratch if you particularly enjoy the vape of a Zmax, Vamo, or what have you.

Erm... beats me?

I'm not sure that its for me either - but I think some people will really go for it. Paying for upgrades doesn't seem so bad to me - I am asked pay for certain ugrades with some software I use. With some I use the basic, or I can pay more for the "Pro" version. I tend to stick with the basic. It will depend on what the cost is and what the updates are I guess.
For folks into that kind of thing this may appeal. For some its of no interest at all of course.

I took another look at the info on the Mid today. They recommend their own batts or AW IMRs which is good. Seems you have to stack them tho - I think I have that right. I'm not a stacker myself. Also confusing on the variable wattage part. The basic Mid gives variable voltage, but it seems you may have to buy a module for variable wattage? That's how it read to me anyway.
I'd like to see some-one review one.

This might be a great device. No need to pay from something you don't need.
The real question is what Do you get in the package. If it's just VW you might be paying a bit too much.

I'm not sure VW is in the basic package. From what i read from their info you have to pay for the real-time VW module.

I'm interested if only for the horspowers that thing puts out... 25 watts! need to get back into dual coil....
the rest of it seems silly and I certainly won't pay extra for them to unlock something it can do from the factory. bad bad bad bad bad marketing. I'll be watching, jaunty has failed to impress me so far but the market is heating up

oh, it only comes from the factory with 3-6v vv, no vw and no 8v... no thanks

It pretty clearly states VW "out of the box"
What you get with MiD "One" out-of-the-box
Variable Voltage/Wattage ecig with 4 on-board step up/step down vaping profiles in the range of 3V to 6V or 4W to 15W
Real time monitoring of battery levels, device temperature, atomiser resistance, vaping profile amplitude on board
Free MiD PC Interface connectivity to retrieve device information, firmware updates, create user name for your device, retrieve number of puffs
Create and save arbitrary vaping profiles with a rich editor in all kinds of waveforms in voltage or wattage, etc (See Excel list for details).
Execution of arbitrary vaping profiles as a flat profile using the first voltage or wattage point of the profile you created on your timeline for a duration of your choice up to 12 seconds
Execution of arbitrary vaping profiles in a single LED colour and single HSL (hue, saturation, luminosity)
Complete safety features such as reverse battery protection, short-circuit protection, overpower and under power protection, thermal monitoring etc (See excel list for details)
Log on to midseries.com social web server, register your device, download latest MiD PC interface application, register yourself as MiD user, register your device, purchase modules to expand your out-of-the-box MiD "One"

The question is what "4 on board" means I think I would get it. Just cause I like messing with stuff. I would really like it if I could make profile changes with my phone or tablet (android) rather than using my desktop at home. I travel for work. They say it works with standard 510 carto's but the carto's and cost of the janty are unknown at this moment. The review for the evic have not been good

Also it seems reasonable for the first adopters. The one's who are taking all the risk. To have some advantage with the modules. Lets face it. Many people are going to wait until it gets into the hands of the first adopters or reviewers. I say it should be a perk to the pre-order. The first adopters can make or break a product. I know the early reviews for the "Evic" have completely taken that off the table for me.

I also have concern about the pocket-ability of the "joy stick" While the joy stick is one of the appealing features. Just because I like unique things. I worry that I will launch a nuclear strike when I slide it in my pocked and push the stick one direction or another.

And the last thing that I would like to see. I am probably not alone when that I like it when we can see a photo of the unit beside some items of known size. I just wish all vendors would figure this simple idea.

That's what I thought initially but after reading the info it didn't wasn't so clear. At first I thought there was an extra module to go to 25 watts - I think this is the case. But it also reads like you need a module to use VW. Really need to see some-one take this through its paces. I'll have another read soon and try to decipher it. Variable voltage out of the box, but not so clear on variable wattage being activated.

There is a chart on the Janty Shop site (choose the "Description" tab) that explains which functions work out of the box and which will require purchased modules. To answer your questions:

Both VV and VW are available out of the box. Realtime VV/VW (changing during a puff) will require a module.
VV is limited to 3-6V. A module will let you run 0-8V.
VW is limited to 4-15W. A module will let you run 0-25W.

I watched this video yesterday and looked at the site for the features it offers. You have to pay extra for certain features like the one in the video. This thing is going to be crazy if it actually works when Janty releases the MID. This thing may be too over the top for me. I'm happy with the ProVari, Zmax or something that will have the DNA20 in it. If his thing works, it be able to take you to the moon if you want to go there.
