ETA: Using a saddle valve to punch your cartos can work very well, but it can also take your cartos out of round. If you try to push an out of round carto through the bottom cap of a Lava tank, you can fracture the bottom cap. This is not a fault of the tank, but a fault of the user. This is why everyone is recommending the VIP and COV punches.

They tend to distort the shape of the tube. And then when you push the carto through the bottom, it gets stuck if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, it breaks the bottom of your lava.

That's the kind I use, got it off eBay cheaper than that. I figure I'll go through the few I have and then I'll spring for the one from COV. I haven't distorted a carto yet with it, so I guess I'll wait to see what happens when I get my lava.
