Any update on this?

I too keep checking this thread to see if Lightgeoduck or any others have posted on the best methods for refilling the genuine Joyetech cartomizers. I have not yet tried the syringe method, but have been refilling my Joye cartos with both the condom method I described earlier, and another method I haven't really seen described, which is a drip method of sorts.

This drip method is simple and not as messy as the condom method. I simply hold the empty carto in one hand with the threaded end upwards. I take a slow drip bottle of juice and place a single drop on the tiny hole in the threaded end, and the juice disappears in about the time it takes the next drop to come out of the bottle. In less than a minute, I can drip 15 drops into the cartomizer this way. In principle, it's the same as the condom method in that it feeds the juice into the threaded end, but the drip method doesn't force the juice in like the condom method, it just lets gravity suck it inside.

The one thing I haven't yet worked out is how to prevent overfilling. Once it gets saturated inside, the excess juice starts to drip out the mouthpiece end. Even when I let them stand overnight with the latex caps put back in place, I still get gurgling noises and end up with juice in my mouth if I just pop the caps off and start vaping. So I am now removing the caps, wiping the whole carto dry with tissue, then putting my lips over the threaded end and forcefully blowing like a whistle through the carto, blowing the excess liquid out onto the tissue. This works, but I still end up with a little juice in my mouth from blowback.

Anyone have any better ideas?

I really find it disgusting that people are using condoms to refill their 510 cartos. I don't care about the excuses, it is just weird and gross. Oh and BTW, syringes make you look like a druggie.

Drip in 10-15 drops and you will be fine!! Vape away!! I have two cartos in rotation through the day and never need to top off either one with more than three drops.

Using condoms makes it quick to refill several cartos at the same time, but when testing liquids, I drip about 20 drops into a tall condom (part juice and part VG), mix with a paper clip, and then pour the mixture into the mouth end of a carto held at a 45 degree angle. I pour the mixture into the same spot at the end of the carto, and it will all flow into the filler fine. There's no need to drip, then move the carto, then drip, and so forth. Just pour it all into the same spot. The liquid will get mixed into the filler and built-in atty better doing it this way.

If you only use two cartos each day and only drop no more than three drops into each carto, then I assume you don't vape very often. If I only used this much liquid, I'd have to go back to smoking.

Switch to a BOGE. It fits, it works, it stays cool, it produces tons of vapor and flavor (most of my liquids are 60pg/40vg) and it is EASY TO REFILL.

I'll agree. I've been using the Boge 510 cartomizers (like the soft cap better) from litecigusa.net for $7.95 for a box of five and have had no problems. I get great throat hits, lots of vapor, and very good flavor (as long as I buy good juice). They're easy to refill, using either the condom method or the method I just posted above. I might start using the method I just posted, or if you have a bottle of liquid you've already mixed, you can just drop 20 or so drops into the mouth end of a carto, holding the carto at a 45 degree angle, put the white cap back on, and let it sit overnight for best vaping results. Letting cartos sit overnight is important, because the mixture has to mix in good with the filler and built-in atomizer. There's a big difference in throat hits, flavor, and vapor when you let newly-refilled cartos sit overnight, with the threaded ends pointing down.

Actually, I plan to acquire a suitable syringe soon so I can try your method. Fair is fair. But I'm not sure where to get one of a suitable size. I'd prefer a squeeze bottle with a totally blunt metal tube, but that's way harder to find. I'm open to suggestions.

I bought a syringe with needle at Freedom Smoke USA. It was $1.19, but the needle tends to fall off when I'm filling cartos, so I might be doing something wrong.

I filled five eGo Mega cartos last night and had to use this syringe and needle. The needle fell off several times when I was slowly pushing the liquid into the little hole at the mouth end of the Mega carto -- and yup, I ended up with liquid on my left hand and then tried to syringe that liquid back into the syringe, but it didn't work out too well. I'm pretty sure I'll stick to using the 510 Boge empty cartomizers with soft caps (from litecigusa.net, which is the cheapest I've found so far). I'm fairly positive that I don't want to pay more for the Mega cartos and have to deal with using a syringe and needle to fill them. It was just too much of a hassle, and the five Mega cartos cost $17 at cignot, twice as much as the 510 Boges -- and I like the vaping performance with the 510 Boges better than vaping with the eGo Mega cartos. I also like the mouth end of the 510s better than the tapered mouth end of the Megas.

Anyway, here's a link to a few syringes with needles at FMUSA:

OMG just gotta say - my order for Cignot prefilled 18 mg cartomizers in a tobacco blend came in today. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I ordered a five pack off some other site last week - also 18 mgs in a tobacco blend they were the harshest things ever. These cignot carto's are so smooth. AWESOME !! I am very pleased.

Thanks, Jammin, for the review! I like ordering from Cignot very much, because they are in Illinois, I'm in Michigan, and I receive their orders in two days. They ship the same day, and their customer service (Vicki) is great! I'll have to check out their prefilled cartos. I originally ordered prefilleds from litecigusa.net, and I was able to fill them with 20 drops or more of my own liquid before vaping them. They seemed to be way too dry, without adding more liquid. So, since then, I've ordered Litecig's empty cartos.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to give it a go yet (on video) but as you said srcowell with the condom method being a bit messy.. and messy means wasting juice. I will try to think of something .. and try to do that video when my new vid camcorder comes in next week.

Hey, I didn't mean to rush you! I just keep checking in to stay on top of the issue! :)

This method seems too cumbersome to me. I tried once to drip into the threaded end, and it seemed more messy and took longer. I prefer not to get too much liquid on the threaded end, because the liquid is sticky, and I feel like I need to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the threads. I go through a lot of kleenex and q-tips, and I need to just find the best method to refill cartos, quickly and with the least mess possible.

---------->>>>> I think I prefer to take off the white mouth cap and either drip right into the filter (20 to 30 drops, depending on how empty the carto is) or pour the liquid from a half to 3/4s-filled condom into the mouth end of the carto. Using the condom in this way allows you to know how much liquid you're adding to the filter. Once you have a good idea of how much an empty (or almost empty) carto will hold, then you'll know how much liquid to put into the condom before pouring the liquid into the carto. These methods seem to be less messy than plunging the cartos into condoms and then having to wipe the liquid off from the cartos and the ends -- and sometimes getting liquid in your mouth the next day when starting to vape the newly-filled cartos.

I've bought empty plastic bottles that I've mixed the suppliers' liquid with Glycerin from Wal-Mart (can be found on the shelf above the rubbing alcohol in the pharmacy section) -- usually a 60/40VG mix or 50/50 mixture. Then I can just use a 1ml syringe to add the liquid to the condom and fill it about half full. Some cartos may hold more than 1/2 of a condom, so you just need to experiment with the cartos you're using.

I just tried your method above. Filled two cartos with 15 drops each in under a minute.

I like this method.:)

Why do you prefer to do this over dripping into the filler with the cap off? It seems so much cleaner and quicker to drip into the filler with the cap off. DO you just not want to take the cap off?

EDIT: while re-reading this thread I realized that this is the geniune Joye 510 cartos which cannot be refilled the same as the BOGE.

I started using atomizers tried a cartomizer and never went back.

i am begining to think I might do the same. I was dripping, but that really is fussy....every few puffs drip, drip.

The cartos from cignot are great prefilled and when empty I re-filled them using scrowell's method of dripping 15 drops into the tip and they taste just as good re-filled. Dripping into the threaded end takes no time at all....

Thanks for the vote of support, Jammin!

I've been exchanging emails with Vickie at Cignot.com, but I have don't get secret kickbacks or anything. I'm just really happy with these Joye 510 cartomizers, and they are so easy to refill without resorting to disassembly and sharp objects. I asked her why she hadn't changed the description on her website about requiring a syringe to refill, especially when she told me she's been refilling them herself from the metal tip, for her own use, since learning it could be done. She replied that she had simply put the verbage from Joyetech in the description, and doesn't want the description of how to refill to turn into a novel!

She encouraged me to make a video showing the three methods I know of that DON'T require a syringe (I'm sorry, but those things make my skin crawl!!). :/

I will probably attempt the video demonstration soon, but it would be my first, so who knows...

srcowell and jammin,

I haven't found a decent picture of the genuine Joye 510 cartos yet, so I'm wondering what the mouth end looks like. It seems, from your posts, that it's different from the Boge 510 cartos. Can you please explain a little bit about why it's easier to refill the Joyetech 510 cartos into the threaded end, instead of the mouth end? Is the mouth end similar to the 510 Mega cartos, where there's just a little hole that needs a syringe and needle to add liquid?

I'm thinking about purchasing some Joyetech 510 cartos from Cignot to try them out, but I'd like to know a little more about the mouth end before I do. Thanks!

I posted disassembly pictures and two video reviews of these.

Might be helpful.

cozzicon,

You use carts at home and cartos on the road...can I assume you prefer carts? If so, why?

background:
I'm ok with filling carts and doing mods, but I like the idea of cartos because of convenience and possibly better consistency and more vapor. I just want thick, consistent vapor and a good TH (I guess everyone wants that). If cart mods and more power are the best path to that goal, then so be it!
However, I'm getting impressions from others that cartos might be better than carts simply for the increased vapor.

PS - thanks for all your videos; they were my main resource for my 1st purchases. :)

I havent even bothered to take my cignot cartos apart...I did on the last ones but it was too cumbersome. Doing 15 drops in the threaded end is no fuss no muss for me. No taking any plastic parts out, filling syringe, etc.

I also don't get any kickbacks from Vicky at cignot, I jsut love those cartos!

Same here. Now that I have tried more than a couple diff things I can say i do NOT like carts, at all. They are messy and I got tired of fooling with them, and only the first few vapes were really good and high quality IMO. The carto lasts for darn near an hour (i don't vape for an entire hour, but you know what I mean, you get an hours worth of vaping not a few vapes at a time).

I've spent a ton on the cartomizers. I like the convenience of them, but they are just too expensive for my wallet. Here's how I'm making it work on a budget:

Glad thats working for you, and I am not trying to be a .... (really). Just wondering how you made smoking analogs work on a budget ?

I buy pre-filled cartos for when I am out. I love the flavors (liquidXpress) and they last way longer than when you fill them yourself for some reason.
I feel like a pretty heavy vapor, but I can make a pre-filled last 24 hours or a bit more.

I do drip at home in front of the computer.

I go through about 6 pre-filled cartos a week, and have given up on re-filling them. I used to save them, now I just chuck them.

So that = about $10.50 a week total (cartos pre-filled with fluid). I spent 60 - 65 bucks a week on analogs, so they just don't seem all that expensive to me at all.
Hell I am saving 200 bucks a month using them over smoking .... Yipee.

I think some of it is mental. Scraping up singles and change every day to stop and buy a pack at the mini-mart doesn't seem to bad. But sitting down at you computer with a credit card to order 50 bucks worth a pop (4-5 weeks worth for me) kinda feels like your blowing a ton of cash.

You just need to stay rational and do the math. I am happy with my system. If your happy to thats all that matters I guess.
