You need to lock the ohms for TC mode (Ni or Ti), and when you remove a atty & put in a different one, of course it will unlock, because it's a new atty.

When in TC mode, the atty needs to be locked, because when the power/joules/watts heats the coils, the resistance will rise if it is not locked.
On the Evic VT, or joyetech/Wismec mods in general, there's really no need to lock the resistance. The mod will maintain the initial resistance, and ask new coil/same coil if it detects a significant change in resistance. Locking the resistance is primarily useful if you grow tired of the new/same coil question. Otherwise, I'd actually recommend leaving the resistance unlocked (Evolv recommend the same for their chips). Yihi chips are different, with those you need to lock the resistance in order for tc to function properly.

I'd agree, it seems to work fine either way.. No problems unlocked. Also it clearly doesn't lock the resistance when you lock it as it still samples and changes based on ohm detection and will usually lower.

Same atty simply keeps the algorithm it created, but It will eventually change on its own if not locked.. If the ohms of the new coil are lower.. If the ohms are . 01 or 5% higher it will ask for new coil. But you also have to unlock before hand. Read the manual closely. I have never seen it raise the ohms when unlocked.. Selecting New atty wipes it and begins a new process of determining the correct base ohm.... If that makes sense.. Lol (I went back to kanthal a while back.)

Well, that's a bit of a relief, I was starting to think maybe there was something wrong with my unit, lol

About those weird readings I kept getting after installing a new coil, it looks like that was caused by my noob-builds now.

I finally got some thinner wire in today which gives me a bit more play-room to properly space out my coil on the Toptank RBA and the new coil measured in at 0,52 ohm from the start and I've been vaping on it for half an hour or so now and the resistance hasn't changed at all.

I'm also vaping at more common temps with this one; between 205 and 220 degrees Celsius (I like to change it up).

So the funny readings I reported earlier were probably just user errors and had nothing to with the VT. I'll report back if it does it again though.

Because it's an older device to most, nothing wrong with being excited and posting pics. Keep em coming.

Meh, it is still the prettiest mod out there ;)

Will do!

I can't because mine died quite some time ago and I don't have it anymore.

I've read about that, so sad. But it was awesome of you to donate it to someone else for parts

I've ordered some micro-usb plugs hoping to prevent the same thing happening to mine by the way, so a belated thanks to whomever suggested it in this thread!

That's why I won't buy another RTA until one is either released that can't leak like the Cubis or that has a juice shutoff. Not just a mediocre juice flow control, I want the ability to fully close it off when leaving it overnight.

I will not let a $30 atomizer destroy one of my expensive mods again.

I keep reading good things about the Cuboid, I'd buy one if it came with a proper RBA (I know about the CLR heads but I rather have something similar like the Kanger RBA personally).

But let me know when you find one please, I'd love some more peace of mind myself.

I agree it is a gorgeous mod. I had the yellow one, too, and everyone who saw it admired it.

I'm considering picking up another one myself, just to have a back up for when it dies or disappears somehow. This is my first mod so it would be nice to have a back up unit.

But it would probably make more sense to buy something slightly more up to date, plus I'd like to try SS in TC mode as well some time which is the only thing I miss on the VT.

I keep going back and forth between the new Cuboid mini or another VT but haven't been able to make up my mind so far.

Apparently juice leaked into the chip and fried it. I donated it to another member who needed it for a part and he was able to get his working for a short time before it went out for good.

That was me and I was awe struck at the beautiful color of the yellow one too. Mine was white and lived a little while longer from your kind PIF. Many many thanks again!!

If JT would have made this mod upgradeable I'd have all colors, and many of them.

They were truly the bees-knees at the time, but the "non-upgradeability" killed this one. Such a beautiful mod and so "poorly" engineered. All it would take is one simple USB to microcontroller chip to add the upgrade feature.

I have since moved on to the RX200 (non-dna) and haven't looked back.

(although the I still do dream about my VT...........)

^^^^ I totally agree with this. It was a beautiful mod...looked just like a miniature race car. The finish was the best I've seen to date on any mod. I jumped on it when it first came out and enjoyed using it. If it had been upgradeable I would have bought a new one when the first one went out. I have also moved on the the RX200 and enjoy it as well.

You are more than welcome, @atroph. I'm glad I could help you out to get yours going, if only for a short time. :)

Nothing fancy .. here is my collection:

White - Yellow/Orange - Black

You've never unpacked your other two units? Don't you at least want to check if they work before your warranty runs out?

I agree JT kinda missed the ball with the lack of the possibility to upgrade the firmware. Although, from what I gather there have been some problems with their latest firmware upgrades for some of their most recent models so it might be for the best, lol

It would be nice if they came with an updated version of this mod though, but that doesn't seem very likely.

Still, I'm really glad I got one as my first mod, I imagine I'll always remember the first one anyway. Even if it quits on me I'll just keep it on display.

Also to make sure the battery is only half charged, empty or full storage is a no no.

Really, why is that?

I always thought it's best to store them fully charged in a cool place since it gives you the least change that they drain completely when unattended for a long time.
