So I just got an Ody v2 and I love it. I've been vaping Boba's Bounty for about 9 months. The only thing is it tastes very different in my Ody.
Now, let me say that when I got the Ody there was already juice in it. I took it apart and wiped the parts down with a paper towel. I'll admit that maybe I didn't clean it well enough.
Could that juice just be tainting my Boba's Bounty flavor? I heard somewhere that the Ody brings out the sweetness in VG, but I think it's more than that.. I feel like it tastes like the last juice that was in it, but I've run through almost a full tank now and I can't taste the Boba's yet.

Should I clean all the pieces in Alcohol and try again, or do juices taste different in this? I'm using to using Genesis style atomizers, so I would assume it wouldn't be that different.

Figured I'd ask you guys, thanks!

It's probably the ceramic piece. Some people like to torch it until it glows (be careful not to break it). This could definitely help. Also, what type of wick are you using in the Ody? And have you ever used that wick with Boba's before? Not cleaning well enough could also contribute to the flavor change, yes. Many possible factors here.

Ok thanks guys. I'm using a silica wick and its the first time I've used it. I didn't clean the ceramic cup as well as I probably should have. I don't have any wick left but have some in the mail, so maybe I should wait to clean it as I don't know if I can get it back together with the current setup.
Is soaking the pieces in alcohol a good way to clean it or should I do anything different, torch the ceramic, etc?
I also couldn't figure out how to take apart the ceramic and center post, in the videos I watched the post inside the ceramic had a slot to use a small screwdriver but mine just has a round hole?

Torching the ceramic is a good method to clean it, but especially when I torched "good used" ceramics it happend from time to time that they break so its probably not the way to go until you have spares ;)
I would give all parts a good treatment with soap and soaking the ceramic afterwards in alcohol should do the job.

With regards to the net inside the ceramic - I guess it is upside down. Shame on the previous owner to deliver such a uncleaned device!

Awesome thanks everyone, I will try cleaning it tonight.. I'll keep the wick but just attach more silver wire so I don't have to redo the coil, that should work ok I think. I have a feeling most of the flavor is from the ceramic cup as I didn't really clean it out too well. I knew the flavor couldn't be that different! Thanks again everyone :)

I might hold off on torching the ceramic, only because I don't have a spare. Do previous juice flavors stay on the ceramic or something?
And doke, yeah I used a Genesis Line for most of my vaping career, cartos before that. I understand the torching of the res wire and stuff but this has got to be the previous juice flavor.

I'm gonna try soaking in hot water and soap then either grain alcohol or iso alcohol. I might try to soak my wick and coil in grain alcohol as well to just get the current juice out of it.. I only have one strand of wick left and I like this current setup I did with 2 smaller pieces of wick in addition to the main wick. Hopefully that will clean it.. if not maybe I'll just redo the whole thing with one wick... I might have enough wick to add another small strand under the coils. I have 15 feet of wick coming from CoV so hopefully that will be here soon!

Some people like to leave the o-rings on when they clean with boiling hot water. I generally take them off and rinse them in warm or cold water so that they don't expand. Just remember to apply a little vaseline on the o-rings after each clean so that they don't rub hard against the metal parts.

Ah thanks for the tip, will do!

So I cleaned everything, soaked it in warm soapy water, rinsed, then soaked in grain alcohol. It definitely tastes like Boba's Bounty again. There is still a slightly different taste, maybe it's just the silica wick, though, I'm not used to that. I'm almost wondering if there was any soap residue on the parts, but I'm not sure how that would taste... it definitely seemed clean.
Either way, it's much better!
Does silica wick have a slight flavor at first? I know with cotton it did, but it also went away after a few vapes.
I did manage to use the rest of my wick to make a new setup as well.

+1 torching ceramic for at least 5 minutes if the ceramic is old... Torching Silica wick briefly for about 3-5 seconds as well before making coil >>> No funny taste of the old juice.

I will keep that in mind, thanks! I used a new wick, though... the guy who gave me this wick told me I didn't have to torch it, though... I have wicks coming from CoV that I will torch before use. I'll just keep vaping and see if the taste goes away, I have a feeling it's just the silica wick. Glad I cleaned the Ody, though! Funny how it was just tasting like the old juice despite wiping it all down and vaping through a tank of Boba's!

The taste will go away eventually, does not lake long at all subver. But better torch the silica before making coil to get rid of whatever got in it from manufacturer, to seller to someone... to.... then to you, you just never know where the silica has been and absorbed what etc...
Always safer to torch it before use in my opinion.

Good advice, thanks! Will do next time for sure
