Okay - maybe some feedback from some of you who have been using the 510 for awhile will help. I have had mine for not quite a week and I've done more fussing and messing around with this than any other e-cig I've had. Well, I've only had a pen and the M401 before. Anyway, on the plus side, when it is working well, it is unbeatable. My problem is trying to keep it working well! For as big as the carts are, I can't believe how short a time I get with them before getting that ugly taste that usually means the cart is dry. I know it's not sucking all the juice out and have tried different cart filler, the straw method and I finally figured out that using felt and the straw helps ... a little bit. I still don't seem to be getting more than ten or twelve good vapes before the yuck factor starts in. Does this sound normal? I know it is a juice hog and I've certainly found that out but guess I'm just trying to find out if I'm doing something wrong or if is normal for this model.

Ordered an extra atomizer with the kit and a good thing as, the other night, I was looking down the barrel of it trying to decide if I wanted to drip for 5 or 6 good vapes or refill another cart. I saw what I thought were some fibers from a cart sticking to it so got out my tweezers to pull them off. Bad move! Landed up with three fairly long and obviously not cart filler fibers. What the heck are these things? The atomizer still seems to work okay but definitely get that burnt taste much faster now. Just glad I still have two attys.

Anyway, although dripping does give much better flavor, just can't see myself constantly popping off the cart and dripping all day long. On the other hand, only seem to be getting about twice as much from a cart. Have a 7 hr drive ahead of me tomorrow and figure I'd better fill about a dozen or so carts to hold me through! In some ways, makes me long for my penstyle again. At least I could vape darn near all day on one of those carts. That's the other thing ... I'm not what you would call a super heavy vapor so was really hoping to get longer life from these carts.

Okay - enough whining. ON the plus side, love the way it performs for the duration of the cart. Great vape, nice flavor and throat hit and love that PCC! They shouldn't even sell a starter kit without one of these things.

Anyway, if you could just let me know if what I am experiencing is 'normal' or not for this model, it would at least put my mind to ease as to whether I am a total ..... at cart refilling!

Thanks all!

Hi Fisher. Where's the name come from? It's my maiden name :) Anyway, I use both a penstyle and the 510. I tried the 901 and it seems to be one of the most popular but I just can't seem to like it. I use the penstyle for all day vaping..."chainvaping" and the 510 for when I would smoke an analog, after eating, on waking, etc. The 510 is a juice hog with a small cart.

The burning taste I don't know. As I said in another post on that subject I am a complete weird-o I guess, I love that flavor. Sick I know, but for some reason that plastic burnt taste really appeals to me. I don't let it happen all the time though as I know it's wearing on the atty. I rejuice it after enjoying a couple hits of that.

In my opinion if I were to take a long drive I'd fill up both a pen and the 510 and alternate just as I do at home. For long drives though I'm also a nicorette addict so I can be OK for a while without stopping if I run dry.

Maybe someone else will have a suggestion, but unfortunately the 510 is a juice hog and the carts are small so you do have to top off a LOT. Hope anything I babbled here helps....

Hello FisherPal:

Nonstinky is right. The 510 (Dura-C) copy is a hard hitting PV, with great thick vapor and throat hit, but for that extra you will need to keep feeding it. The 801/pen is more airy with longer lasting cartridges. Pick your poison and the task of it that you can live with. They both have their qualities and down sides.

Trapped within my imagination
I just read a post on using (Lipton pyramid teabags as cart filler and how much longer they last= wicking more) I had tried the regular lipton tea bags..wasn't too thrilled with them..I think I'm going to give em a shot..Even if it's a lil higher maintenance as far as topping off/dripping ( I do both) I still love my 510

Careful on over dripping with the 510..It's finicky- few drops

Those fibers are actually your coil wick, which the nichrome coil wraps around. The metal bridge is connected to a ceramic cup, which fills with liquid. The liquid is then transfers to the atomizer coil via those fibers. I believe they're made out of kevlar, or some similar heat resistant material. When you pulled the fibers from the coil, it lessened the amount of liquid your atomizer coil can take in, and the reason why you're running into the burnt taste earlier.

When using that atomizer, i would drip less, as there is less material to soak up excess liquid.

Thanks all for your replies. If I knew how to delete posts that I make, I would have done so last night after posting my rant. Was just a frustrating day with it. However, that said, you have all answered my concerns and I thank you! At least I know that everything is as it should be with my 510. You make an good point, nonstinky re two completely separate models with their own specific delivery systems and it's pointless to compare one to the other. They each are what they are. And I agree with you, Kreel. When everything is topped off, this one is hard to beat. Think I'm still going through my 'learning and adapting' curve with it. Won't be pulling anymore threads out of the attys though! Again, thanks for your responses! They all helped clear things up for me.

Fisherpal,
I am having the EXACT same experience as you. Too bad, I was hoping for a longer lasting e-cig with the large cart that this model has, but I only get about 12 good vapes before its done. It goes through the liquid so fast because it makes such nice vapor. What your experiencing is normal. Welcome to the e-cig world each model has it pro's and con's.

I second that about tossing a 306 atomizer on the 510 instead of the recessed atomizer that comes with it. I have 'hybrid-ized' my 510.

I keep a contact lens case handy with my flavors o'the day. Yank off the mouthpiece, dip, and I get maybe a dozen really fine hits without using the carts at all. Carts are for on-the-go only for me.

Whats more on the go than the contact case? I even have my suave dipping into the contact case routine down now so if I can find a cool looking contact case I am all kinds of happening. The only real issue I have with it is if I am driving without stop lights or traffic slow downs for any length of time. On the plus side my wife will drive now since I don't stink up her car.

Have given up entirely on the carts now. Think I've tried every type of filler material out there and can't make any of them work any better than any other. Must be seven ways an idiot to not even be able to get the pyramid teabag thing happening that has so many people excited. Will keep plugging away, though, and hope I reach my 'eureka' moment soon now!
