I'm a heavy analog smoker. 3 packs a day is probably about average. Winstons or Marlborough's, full flavor. I smoke while driving (and I drive a lot), I smoke at home, I smoke at nightclubs. I'm 50 years old, and I've smoked heavily for most of that.

For the past week or so, I've been reading a lot about vaping, and today I set up an account here. I think I'm going to make the following order. But I know I'm spending a fair amount of money to get into it, and I wanted to ask for advice before I place the order.

I'm pretty amazed at how complicated all this stuff is.

This is what I'm looking at ordering.

JOYE eGo MEGA Black starter kit $65.99
JOYE eGo MEGA Black

JOYE eGo MEGA 5 Pack Refillable Cartridges 2.5ML 4.99
JOYE eGo MEGA Refillable Cartridges 3ML

EZ-fill tool for refilling cartridges. 2.99
EZ FILL

30ml bottle of smoke juice. 24mg Custom Blend High
USA MADE MLB 2 Smoke Juice / E-Liquid 30ml Bottle
(Perhaps I should order more than one? I've no idea how long to expect this to last...)

Pocket Pouch $0.99
eGo Pocket Pouch

Cartridge Covers (set of 2) $0.59
eGo-T Cartridge Covers

1000 mah battery. (Bigger, stronger, and I expect I'll get another later and will rarely use the 650's.) $24.99.
JOYE eGo 1000 mah Battery

Subtotal $115.49
7.95 for shipping.
Grand Total $123.44

---

I've read some thing about the ego-T tank systems that make them sound like they are finicky. I don't want anything to hard to work with when I'm getting started. I wouldn't be very happy if I ordered and couldn't get the stuff to work.

Since I know I'm a fairly heavy smoker, I'm looking at a manual battery, and a stronger battery than most, so that it will last longer. It doesn't bother me that it won't look or feel like a regular cigarette.

I expect I will continue to smoke analog cigs for awhile, as I get used to this, but I'm hoping to eventually switch so that I don't smoke the analogs anymore.

Cost and health are the primary reasons for the switch. Not smelling up everything around me would be a very nice bonus.

One thing I can't figure out is how long a 30ml bottle of smoke juice will last. The starter kit comes with one (though it's a low mg level) and I'm ordering a second bottle. Should I order more right away?

I'm not sure about flavors, either. The closer to the cigs I'm used to the better, I guess. I'm not interested in cherry, or cocoa, or fruit-punch or whatever. I'd just like the transition from analog to PV to go as easy as possible.

And, of course, I'm open for suggestions, else I wouldn't be posting here.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I think you've made a good first choice but you are going to want to buy a lot more juice especially if you are a heavy smoker. I can't say how fast you will go through those 2 bottles but I think if you don't order more juice you will run out before your next juice shipment arrives. Good luck with your new adventure. Some of us like to think of it as a hobby. :)

I don't know how long you'll be using cartridges. Soon you will probably try cartomizers (Boge are most popular) and most like them better. Don't forgot an Ego mega drip tip for your atomizers. And a button protector

And go check the prices at Liberty-Flights.com and press the 20% off in upper left front page before checking the prices. (that will lower the shown prices). Generally they have among the best deals with that 20% off. I don't know if they sell the mega.

Re tanks and tank attys yeah a lot of people have problems with them. The one plus is I think the Ego-T batteries have a special feature where you can press a certain number of times and disable the battery to carry more safely in your pocket. The only other diff between Ego and Ego mega and Ego-T are the atty and carts (or tanks for the T atty) they are using. You can turn one into the other by buying the right atty and whatever carts/tanks attaches to the atty

A 30ml bottle should last about as long as 2-3 cartons of cigarettes. That should hold you over for a little while, but I would strongly suggest shopping around for different flavors and nicotine strengths. Many people find their taste in vaping varies wildly from what they liked as a smoker: Your opinion of menthol might change with time and your opinion of tobacco flavors almost certainly will change.

Don't be afraid to venture into the non-tobacco flavors. I didn't really care for menthol cigarettes, but I've found that I really like adding menthol to fruity flavors (like apple and strawberry--YUM!) not to make it "minty" but to make it taste "cold" and give a throat hit that is more like smoke. For me, the only tobacco flavor that I really like enough to vape all day is Nhaler High Voltage Octane "Signature Tobacco", but everyone's taste is different.

Congrats on deciding to switch. I smoked for 30+yrs- didn't even mean to quit but vaping ruined smoking for me! Egos are a good choice to start, you have clearly put thought into the shopping list! - would recommend a high nic juice to start to deal with nic needs- vaping is more evenly absorbed _ not the spikes of analogs. Typing on phone, excuse errors! - I like CCV resurector carts for ease of use and wArm hit- 20 bucks for fifteen no shipping. Also u said that tobacco is the taste for you, please consider a few samples in other flavors- I was shocked at how fast I preferred sweet, coffee and friut vapes. Good luck. And keep asking questios.

Great suggestion and advice. Heaven-gifts has great prices and the best selection and good customer service. As you mention, the downside is that it can take a long time to be shipped from China.

However, if you don't want to wait, the VaporCast store has the black ones in stock for only $22.50: Genuine Joye 1000mAh XL eGo Battery w/USB (510, passthrough) - The VaporCast Store

I don't think I understand the difference between cartomizers and cartridges. I've seen button protectors in some of the videos I've watched, but haven't seen them sold separate. I guess I thought they came with the EgoMega starter pack, but they aren't listed there, so probably not.

Dripping sounds like it makes a bit of sense if you are at home, but on the road, at a club, pretty much anywhere except home, it seems like a lot of trouble. I'm not very interested in dripping at that point.

A typical cartridge is simply a plastic "tip" that includes a bit of filler material to hold about a milliliter of liquid that slowly wicks its way into the atomizer. A "cartomizer" is designed with the filler material built-in which can be convenient, but prone to go "bad" within a few weeks compared to atomizers that can last for months if properly maintained.

That helps quite a bit, thanks.

I'll probably try some of that flavor. I really can't stand menthol cigarettes, so I can't see why I'd want that flavor in a PV. I'm not a big fan of sweets or fruity kind of things in general. Even as a kid, I didn't eat much in the way of cookies, cakes, pies, ice cream, etc.

Good deal. The only thing I'd add is don't put too much pressure on yourself right away while you're learning the ropes and adjusting to the change. If you still smoke at first (trust me you won't want to as much no matter what; maybe none at all like some on day 1) that is hardly the end of the world. Just keep at it and you'll find what works best for you in terms of real satisfaction and enjoyment, especially being here.

I've heard a lot of people say similar things, and I sure hope it works that way for me.

I like CCV resurector carts for ease of use and wArm hit- 20 bucks for fifteen no shipping.

Not sure what those are.

I'm not a big fan of sweets in general, or coffee, or most fruits. I do expect I'll eventually try more variety, but at least to start, I don't want to spend much money trying various flavors that I don't really expect to enjoy. I think the closer I can get to the flavor I'm used to with analogs, the easier the transition will be.

You will most likely not need the cartridges you have on your list. I would suggest getting a pack of cartomizers to see if you like them (boge LR cartos are great), they are much less fuss than cartridges. It won't hurt to have a drip tip and it is a good idea. Actually, cartridges are much more fuss than dripping. If you don't like it, you don't have to use it, but it's a good idea to have one, because carts are a lot of fuss and drip tips are easier to test flavors and require less attention. I say this because in my experience, even with larger cartridges, you have to top them off or the filling can get singed and stick to the atty.

I would also strongly suggest this for juice
USA Tobacco Smoke Juice / E-Liquid Sampler 5 Pack

In all honesty, I suggest that, because it's the best option at this vendor for someone beginning to vape but it is only 11mg. It is not a good idea to get 30ml of a juice you haven't tried. You may hate it. When beginning vaping the juice can be a problem. It is best to start with several small samples and then reorder larger bottles of the flavors you like.

edit
Sorry, I didn't realize this vendor doesn't carry cartomizers. Unless I missed it somewhere?

+1 on the cartomizers. If you don't want to fidget with things, want things simple, go with the cartomizers. That way the atomizer is built in and you only have to mess with 2 things--carto and battery. Simple--and if you condum fill your carto using the battery end, that is easiest of all. I am all about simple and easy.

I'm not sure what is meant by "passthrough". But I don't think the 510 batteries/chargers are compatible with the other eGo batteries/chargers. Based on this link : JOYE eGo - eGo-T USB Battery Charger

You are right that the eGo's won't work on standard 510 chargers, but the "passthrough" function means that is has a mini-USB port on the bottom. As long as the battery is at least 1/4 charged, you can vape while it is plugged into the (included) USB cable and constantly recharge without even removing the atty! That's why I call this the "bare essentials" kit--you actually don't need anything else...at least until you get curious about high or variable voltage mods. ;)

lol

That sounds like a very simple, clear, well articulated answer. And I still don't really understand. I guess after I get my first set and start using it, it'll make more sense.

I'm not sure, I hope someone corrects me. I don't believe this vendor is registered on ECF? I look at the forum suppliers, but couldn't find them. It is a good idea to use registered suppliers, not because we want you to spend you money there, but because they are known and trusted by ECF members. There are tons of suppliers out there and when spending large amounts of money, you want a vendor that others have had positive experiences with. You also have a community where you can extol positive experiences or expose negative business practices. Excuse my ignorance if they are a registered supplier and I'm just not aware. I did a cursory search with their domain name and on the forum suppliers, but I may have missed it.

VaporCast is a Podcast where they discuss and sample various e-cigs and liquids. They recently opened their own store to sell some of the products they've recommended and e-liquids they've created or discussed on the show.
