texas has no idea that at one time we were overrun by condoms and diapers

Yep, I have been around a long time...;)

The diapers around the carto coils were and are, a small piece of cotton cloth.

Here is a diaper and filler from a shorty carto. The small piece is cotton and the longer poly.

yeah, I'm using compressed fiber stuffed into the wells of my kayfun to feed my wick, I actually roll up a tight ball of it and stick it in and then compress it into the well, it does work very well compressed too, but I'm thinking in the coil itself though to not be as compressed so the center can feed easier and not choke it and not burn the wick as easily

so do you make your normal wick and then fill up the decks completely with extra hemp fiber will that help with dry hits and help keep wicks better saturated with just having a single wick strand? does this work the same with cotton or not so well with cotton since it doesn't wick as fast

Just a quick follow-up here on a "Fast" cleaning method to produce an uber clean hemp.

I did a small batch to see if I could get an uber clean version done with only a few steps. Total time to process: 30 minutes (not including the overnight soak) - 15 minutes to pull fibers.

I took a mason jar and put handful of the raw hemp in it. I added about four table spoons of oxyclean and filled 3/4 with water. Put the top on and shook it for about 3 minutes. I release a bit of pressure every minute and then did a full rinse of the hemp (holding the hemp in my hand) and then cleaned the empty jar. Repeated two times. Then I put another 4 tablespoon in the jar with the hemp, capped it, shook it until the oxyclean dissolved and then loosened the top of the jar and placed it in sink over night.

This evening I pull the hemp and repeated the rinse and threw it in a small pot for a 10 minute boil. I pour off the top layer of water and rinse again. There was nothing floating on top, no strange pieces, oils, soap or funkyness. I put the hemp into wide bowl with water and took chop sticks to separate the fibers that get tangled during the cleaning/boiling process. To get the separated hemp out of the bowl, I took a 12 inch stainless spatter screen and flip the bowl so the material stayed separated on the screen. After it drained, I then flipped it onto a paper plate and put in the micro for about 5 minutes, flipping the hemp every minute on to a second paper plate.

The material stayed very loose and I was able to easily pull long fibers and form wick sized strands. The method produced about 50% nice long strands and about 50% fluff. Here is a sample of the batch of long strands vs another batch that was just cleaned/washed and boiled.

I like the before on the left better.:D On the right you might just as well have hemp silver or unraveled hemp twine. I was looking for a substitute for cotton balls not a substitute for twine. But as we say use what works for you..:) What advantage does combing out long strands give except easier to make a twine wick to put thru a coil. The silver I have wicked slower than the matted fiber on kerosine lamp test.

lol...depends upon what you are using your hemp for :). For verticals, I pack with the fluffy stuff. For micro-coils I want the longer threads to maintain wick structure. (Also, works great for dropping a wick into a genny tank for doing a dragon coil). That's what was nice about the batch, I got 50% really fluffy stuff for verticals and 50% strands. BTW the strands are not totally straight, their just more oriented in the same direction.

Cant really see fibers on your hemp twine, but here's a closer look at the difference between the pulled straightened hemp and non-pulled hemp. Its basically the same fluffy hemp fibers, just more individual fibers have be axially oriented. The top is one strand flattened out. The bottom is from the previous non-straightened batch.

Genny is last year's girlfriend...not everybody has a new vertical harem...yet.

Ok BJ I designed this for you....what do you think?

The intent is for an easy vert coil build, adjustable air and liquid control, easy top fill. The center tube with slots will screw into the atty deck once the coil has been attached, then you can pack with hemp. The chimney will go over the top and will be adjustable up and down for liquid control, which can be closed completely to fill from the top. The adjustment parts aren't show because they are still in prototype fabrication and testing on a different atty design.

Wow, that looks great!!!!!!!:toast:
My only suggestion would be to put a 2mm high round nipple under the coil and that way reduce any leaking or a small 2mm high negative ledge with the air hole and the neg screw.
