I played a little with vertical micro the way you do it, I did it as 1.8mm, tried it for a day then ripped it back out, muted flavor even when fully saturated, not sure why, may revisit with a smaller coil but you said you do 2.0mm? the last time I played with verticals I did it a bit different, I started out slightly raised off the deck instead of right on it and I did a much longer coil using ribbon and back then I remember it was intense, like a little mini heat gun blow torch, tons of vapor and was really nice but the long hot leg was why I went away from it back then, it would eventually burn the top of the wick

Yeah....In my nightly dreams :D

yours and mine both... you know I suck, I started looking into threading again and researching and it only took me a few hours to realize that the reason I stopped pursuing threading on the lathe in the first place is I finally said to myself ah, I just need a cnc... well came to the same conclusion again :) I really want one, just don't have the spare $$ for toys like that right now :)

It all depends on the wire used but I believe BJ's standard is 8/9 wrap of 28g for just over an ohm. I have tried higher ohms with smaller wire and it works ok. I torn down my Russian and lost my melted insulator before I got to try 29g, but dual and triple twisted 32g worked pretty good at higher ohms like 1.8.

1.8 was the inner diameter not the ohms, I'm using this on a vv vw so I can run it up to 15 watts on this one

Oh woops....yeah 2mm because the drill bit (5/64") fits perfectly into the hole. I think BJ and some others do 1.5mm. I don't think it really matters as long as you can get sealed off at the bottom so your not flooding.

All mine are 10/11 wraps 28g 1.5 mm dia bit. 1.5 ohms, the cones are 8/9 wraps 28g starting at 1.5mm and 2.8 mm at the top, also 1.5ohms.:)

lol....thats right I think 8/9 28g on 2mm is about 1 ohm...too many setups to keep straight :D

good thing BJ is keeping his eye on things

:D Didn't you see my suggestions....:)

lol....now I did :D

I already had something in place you just couldn't see because of the coil.

mainly because I don't have a mill....I was thinking a piece of a 16g hypo needle pressed into the base that stuck out a hair, then you wrap you coil on a 16g needle and your good to go.

this was from back when I was playing with it

I hated to take apart a really good working build but I really wanted to try a vertical coil centered over the air inlet so I did, first try was with rene 41 wire and a NR long leg made from .030 304SS tig wire, not so good really, I wanted to reach up to ~3 ohms, took way too much wire and I ended up with this

it kind of worked but took waay to long to heat up and didn't seem to be going anywhere. I wicked it and tried it a bit anyway, but still just not so good. I think I'd be wasting half of my batteries power on just the heat ups :)

I wasted a lot of time to get poor results and I needed to try again to have a working build for tomorrow so I redid it with ribbon, didn't have the time to play with the NR again so I just did ribbon all the way to see if it works well enough to bother redoing it later with a nr leg. it actually works ok even with the one long leg, not ideal but enough to test the theory I guess

here you can see that it's a straight through path, right to the air inlet which you can see at the bottom of the coil

so far it seems pretty good. I made the mistake of trying some juice I just got and wasn't till after I filled the tank and vaped it that I realized this juice really needs to steep a bit, not so pleasant, so I swapped it out for my regular juice, too lazy now to rewick it so I'm working on just getting past the juice I tried with it with the same wick at this point, a bit too early for me to say too much but so far it seems to def have hope, vaping pretty well so far as it breaks in. this ribbon comes in at 2.9 ohms, at 6v it's around the 12 watt or so range but the straight through design seems to be a bit of a hotter vape than others I've tried in this same power range in the kayfun, going to live with it for a day or so and see where it goes but it def seems like it has potential, hard to judge until I get past that bad juice taste, maybe I'll rewick it in the morning if it doesn't work itself out... supposed to be peach but right now it tastes like a sour grapefruit :( good flavor is coming back though as I vape it while typing this. one thing I can say so far though is if you like a very warm vape this straight through design def brings a lot of warmth compared to any normal horizontal coils I've tried. it is getting better and better, and really no spitting at all from it so far, very very warm hits

and then there was this one which was also a pretty good vape, very hot and intense from what I remember

I called fedex and they said it was just listed as "metal parts" and that wasn't enough description for them to classify it, so they had it on hold until further classification, I told the guy that I am the importer and I would be able to verify a further classification, after confirming I was the recipient I told him that "they are metal parts for a high powered flashlight, a highly focused high power flashlight. make sure you put that down, highly focused..." :) an hour later fedex shows the shipment cleared and is back in transit to me :)

I didn't receive my new full sized kayfun but I did receive a new mod that I was waiting for, and since I wasn't able to play with my new kayfun I decided to play with the mini. my new mod is vv/vw so I am now able to play a little more with lower resistance so I decided to build another vertical coil, this time a true micro, and this time I built it at 1.5 ohms, 28 ga kanthal

this one is a bit more aggressive than what I usually build, and now this thing at 15w is far from a stealthy vape. man does it kick nice though... not quite as warm as the long ribbon vertical I did, but much more vapor, too bad the new mod only goes up to 15w because it seems like it could take even more, at 15w it's very flavorful and sweet. I took another quick clip to show the vape on this, this one is a steam machine :)

click the pic for the video, this is just a 2 second and 3 second toot

I'm going to play with them again but for now went back to a standard micro

Whats the hole size on a 16g needle I wouldn't want to go below 1.5mm on the air hole. My 100% VG juice tend to gel and clog small holes..:)

I was thinking it was larger than it looks to be, I knew it was just over 1.5mm OD, but you don't want juice in air hole anyway and the ID of the coil would be 1.651mm :D

How about when you have it on the lathe just turn it so you leave a 2mm high lip around a 1.6mm air hole. The lip does not have to go inside the coil just to reduce leaking from juice that can accumulate on the floor.:)

True, I was just thinking the slight lip inside the coil would make it easy to register the coil and seal.

Fine are you happy now ....but I'm still going to try the 16g tube because I'm stubborn like that....plus if it doesn't work I'll just pull it out.
