I've taken the A7's apart and squeezed where the pos pin screws in with a pair of pliers...takes out the wobble and the sometimes crazy ohms drift.

Thanks for the tip, but my A7's are by now heavily modified and working fine :)

I got rid of the bottom feeding feature, useless to me, by replacing the original screw with a 2.5mm solid one; then nuked the centrail airtube for getting more wick room, and opened a new air hole on the side. Like that:

Now they work as they should have to start with :D

Anyway the only modification actually needed was to mount a gasket of sorts (tiny o-ring) between the positive screw and the body of the A7: that stabilised the screw, and no more dancing ohms.

PS: sorry about the OT!

Couldn't have said it any better :D

I left mine with the original screw and airtube and seal the A7 body to a Reo with an o ring in the dripcup so I can bf them...did you have fun drilling the side hole?...nasty eh?

Dremels can do miracles, but yes it was a PITA to get the job done on 4 of them ;)

That I have to do to my A7! Thanks for sharing. Could you give me more details or pictures about the 2.5mm screw that you used to block the BF hole? Cant wrap my mind around that one...

Thanks!

Sure, but since I've already polluted this thread way too much, I'm switching to PM...

Apologies to BJ.

I am not into low ohms and really see no need for them, but EDO got me going and I just had to see if I could build one that can keep up with my ten second double draws, I have tried at least a dozen with all the different wrap sizes and wicks others are using and all I got was harsh burnt vaper (smoke). Sometimes the VG actually flamed. So back to basics, a wick for every individual wrap should wet more than one wick for 4 wraps. So using 4 toothpicks I wrapped a cloverleaf coil ( 2 figure 8s at 90 degrees from each other), 2mm hemp thru each coil wrap leaving plenty above the coil to supply extra juice by gravitational flow. Came out as a .9 ohm and have been vaping it all day. Still a little harsh on the mechanical at 3.6v but gets pretty good below that. So anyway I finally built one that can keep up with me but could never be my go to unit, to many variables and each draw is different as the battery drains and pretty quick at these high amps. The A7 gets untouchable hot, had to use a delrin tip. Clic on pic for video.

Huh?...sounds like another BJ'ism I'm going to have to try, fall in love with and up a couple vids where I praise the crap out of some guy called BJ43 on ECF

I am a low ohm guy, but then again I also bf 90% of the time so I'm force saturating my wick, burning is never an issue but I go through a .... load of juice and my batts hate me. But I do still like to play with dripper versions of my A7's...can you show me a pic of that setup BJ?

Plus one on the cloverleaf coil pic! Thanks BJ!

Wow, that was pure genius... My hat off, sir BJ!

0.9ohm at 3.6V makes almost 15W, and with a solid 4Ah drain you'll need a truck battery to keep up :)

I've always wondered about the 'aerial loops' of the wick: when capillarity conflicts with gravity, so to speak, what happens?

PS: what's that mod???

The mod is a China mech I think they called it a Chichi and I have an ECD meter on it ck the #s.

Wrap wire in a four leaf clover around four toothpicks. Trick, start with one toothpick, loop it, add a second toothpick, loop that one in the opposite direction, add the third toothpick and so on.

Remove toothpicks

After one day of hitting it hard..

No real conflict, just two sources of juice. There are a lot of things going on in the wick when you heat it, thermal expansion being one that pushes the juice up and down, add to that the removal of juice from vapor production. Having two sources to replace from just makes it faster. One does not block the other. Like dripping from two bottles instead of just one.

I feel like I am cheating but here goes, a while back I bought a five pack of Evods. I converted one to a 30g coil and two 2mm hemp wicks, one thru and one over, it has been preforming great. The other four I just removed the silica over wick (flavor wick) and replaced that with a 2mm hemp wick, leaving the silica thru the coil wick. Guess what, they are just as good as the all hemp. Real easy to replace the 1/2 inch hemp and dry burn the coil and silica wick for cleaning. Since I bought 10 extra heads and I have still have not been able to pop one of the original coils, it looks like I will be vaping a combo for quite a while. These Evods are great, even though I have to refill six times a day. I have them with 4 Hangsen tobaccos, two on RY1, 1 Cigar, 1 Ry6, and 1 Indian. They keep this old man happy.

Thanks for this, I'm in the Kanger Co-Op (if it ever ships) and hoped to mod a few of those clearos. I have seen some ss mesh T3 mods, but that doesn't interest me as much as using hemp for the Evods and T3s.

I'll second this notion! I finally ordered some Evods and a Protank last week, and have been trying a couple of Evods since last weekend, and I'm quite happy with it so far. Much smoother vape than my Vivi Novas.

I was in a bit of a hurry to try the first Evod, so I only removed the top wicks, and replaced them with 3 strands of Aunt Lydia's #10 bamboo. I wasn't sure if that would be enough, but it seems just about ideal, so far. No leaking, and I only have to use a bit more wattage, as compared to Vivi heads used with no top wicks. It keeps up with my vaping style just fine. Very nice flavor, too.

I tried a different head at a lower resistance (1.8 ohm), and put 4 strands on top of that. That seemed to require significantly more wattage, probably due to the extra liquid heat-sinking effect, but still performed well. Except for one possible issue, anyway. While I didn't taste anything amiss, possibly due to using a strong Caramel Cappuccino flavoring on that one, I did get some airway irritation that was strikingly similar to when I had noticed the singed grommet issue with Vivi Novas. It didn't seem like overheated juice. I'm very sensitive to both.

I haven't heard of that problem mentioned with Evods. I pulled one strand out, and it seemed fine after that. At this point, I think I'll try two strands on top, next time. I'm a bit curious why 4 strands of Lydia's seemed to be detrimental, but I did notice that they ended up spreading out horizontally. I'm guessing that had something to do with it, since the original wicks kind of stacked above the coil better.

ETA - Oops, thought I was in the Wick Materials. Safe... thread, so I'm partially off-topic here using bamboo. I'll be trying hemp sometime soon, though. ;)
