2 things. One I've noticed, some of these mods have pins on the back cover that can easily be placed between the two batteries by mistake like the snowwolf. Two Efests are B or C bin batteries that don't pass Samsung or LG standards. They post a CDR that it should have with zero tests. Many 30A have been shown to vent around 14A.

Looks like both battery slots are damaged from venting on the negative end but batteries vent on the positive end.
The right neg post, on the sled is melted. The left isn't. Put the battery in +electrode to neg post on right side. Just my theory, you're welcome to yours..

I see meltage (sic) around both negative contacts and residue from venting. I'm curious if this mod has a mosfet?

The mosfet is right along the side. It wouldn't have done anything though as according to the OP, there was no atomizer on and they just put in the batteries and immediately shorted.

I saw that and assumed it was probably a mosfet. I missed the no atomizer comment.

as for the negative side being a bit damaged... I dunno, But a few minutes (Actual minutes ) When I went down to get them... or possibly just the four story fall (Even though it fell on to grass)
Also when I threw it off my patio, the batteries popped out of the mod, Not sure how they did .... but it might have flipped them around a few times before landing. I dunno.
They will still hot enough to burn my fingers. It wasnt a VERY serious battery thing as Ive seen before on YouTube, But maybe like a 5, The POP was pretty loud, like a mighty might firecracker.

Wait a minute your' battery vented and you didn't get injured!? No way because according to the media you should be severely injured! Glad your' fine. Like everybody else said it could have been anything, I'm guessing a tear in the wrap by the positive post. I've had the same thing happen to me before except no venting.

Glad you got it away from you and didn't get electrolyte burns or an explosion in your face, Spencer87.

Polarity reversal can happen even if we're careful. A week or two after I got my Smok Koopor Plus 200W VW/TC mod I accidentally inserted one of the batteries in reverse, put the cover on, did the 5 click turn on and hit the fire button. Nothing happened. I popped it apart, checked the batts, and reversed the one that was in wrong. Diode protection saved me from catastrophe. It didn't conduct in reverse bias mode.

Those batts were green Samsung 25R that just have a dot matrix print down one side. Now, I use a fine point felt tip to put + symbols on the positive end.

I also ordered some clear battery shrink wrap to put double covers on all my flat top batts. It's way too easy to have a wrap crack on the positive end and not see it.

Am I seeing things, or do I see some tears in the insulator wrap of the bottom battery? Looks like bare metal front and center. If so, this could cause a battery hard short when the bare cell body came into contact with the mod body. That plastic shrink wrap is there for a very good reason.

I don't think its a coincidence that a lot of the battery venting/explosions involve purple Efest batteries. It's now well known that Efest re-wraps reject cells from the major battery manufacturers, yet for some reason people still use them.

Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised

Rest batteries after charging
One commonly-reported factor in almost all the incidents we hear of where batteries failed violently while in use is that they were taken directly off the charger and then used immediately, at which point they failed.

Because of this, we think it may be a good idea to rest batteries after charging them. This advice will not be found in the usual 'reference bibles' on batteries, but we see more and different reports than others. Therefore we now advise:

Do not use batteries directly after charging them. Use a battery or batteries you previously charged, and that have rested for several hours. This is especially important if using a stacked pair for higher voltage, as statistically the risk is far higher. --- rolygate

The benefit to resting is increased battery lifespan & minimize chance of venting.
