The road to finding an effective set of fingernail, toenail or fingernail/toenail clippers is fraught with pitfalls, booby traps and dead ends.

This is the voice of recent experience speaking, as my brother and I combed the Amazon (dot com) to find our Dad an acceptable replacement for the clippers that he had used for about 10 years but which had become too dull in their old age. We may have finally got enough of a winner that we can declare our journey successful.

Gotta know, Which toe nail clipper did you decide on? Which brings up another question. I want to upgrade my collection of coil rebuilding tools. I have just been using various tools I have on hand. Toe nail clippers come in very hand for clipping those tiny wires when rebuilding the new kanger heads. The old kanger heads are a different story. I need some tiny needlenose like cutters to reach in there to clip the wire. I have been using skinny sewing type scissors but they are such a hassle and do not do the job very well.
Also, when rebuilding attys, the screws are so tiny, finding the right size phillips tip is driving me crazy.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a precision screwdriver with several bits...it's not this particular one, but it's similar:

I also have a jewelry wire cutter...again not this particular one, but similar:

I also have a pair of curved hemostats:

These are my 3 favorite go-to tools when I'm rebuilding. I'm sure there are better sources for these items, I just found some pics online for illustration :)

Got these clippers, which have a straight cut but with jaws that are angled (not perpendicular to the handle). Amazon.com: Mehaz Professional Angled Straight Wide Jaw Toenail Clipper: Beauty
Dad, who doesn't see well, wasn't too happy with them until he realized that the jaws were at an angle. After that realization, cutting efficiency and customer satisfaction became pretty good.

As far as Phillips screwdrivers go, they are not made in some infinite number of sizes. Just got to get one with a quality head that's small enough. I've had cheap screwdriver sets where the machining was so poor and sloppy that the smallest Phillips size would not engage any screw head. It's not easy, though, to find a quality jeweler's Phillips screwdriver. You used to be able to get one in small glasses repair kits at the drug store that only cost a buck, but now those kits have slotted head screws and screwdriver.

Nice nail clippers Bigbells. Have you tried to get him to go get a pedicure? You might be able to sell him on it by saying a beautiful lady will attend to his every need(toenail wise that is)haha. You could take him when the place isn't busy so he would feel more comfortable. Pedicures are so nice and such a treat.
As for the phillips head screwdrivers, I have yet to find one that fits nice. Either they are too pointy, too fat, too small, you name it. I guess I am going to have to break down and buy a precision set.
@ Stone, thanks for the links. I really likes the looks of the wire cutter. It looks like it will reach into those dang kanger bases. Why do you use the hemostats. I haven't found a need for those yet.

The wire cutter is great...I believe some electronics places (like Radioshack) have started to copy and include them in the product line. I like that the hemostats have ridges for grip and can be "locked" closed, which makes handling wire + tool easier.

You can probably also find a multi-bit precision screwdriver at Radioshack as well, it's worth a look.

Probably wouldn't be impossible to talk Dad into it, but he already sees an orthopedist every 9 weeks who cuts his toenails. The clippers are for his fingernails.

Awww c'mon...you're telling me that those suburbian and rural folk never procrastinate raking the leaves?????

I use inplace composting. Work hours required: zero. Cost: zero.

Then again, NC trees tend to be predominantly evergreens.

Sure is purty lookin' at the NJ (my temporary home away from home) tree color changes, especially when I don't have to do any of the raking.

We didn't have inplace composting the last time I raked leaves. When I was a kid, I swore "raking leaves" was an excuse to banish us kids from the house :D

in-place composting is the best solution as long as it does not happen over grass :D

i give thanks to my woodlands every year;) all it takes is a good blower to move the leaves where they'll do some good!
I give thanks I don't have to rake/blow leaves :D

(Though I do miss the beauty of woodlands :thumb:)

With the bigbells landscaping program, there is no grass per se. There is "laissez-faire". Laissez-faire never needs feeding, re-planting, manicuring or meticulous attention of any kind. It is advisable to cut the laissez-faire before it completely hides discarded motor vehicles or before breezy conditions cause it to batter the domicile windows. When laissez-faire starts to cause roof damage, the 1948 Allis-Chalmers with bush hog may no longer be sufficient. Bigger dogs should be considered.

You could try goats...goats work too :)
