Just did the cotton ball rebuild on my brand new Protank and it works wonderfully. Took around 5 minutes and I have never taken an atomizer apart in my life. Thanks for the info!

I do the same. Better taste & I use 32 ga Kanthol to coil. Most flavors require less wattage, and some way less. Reese's peanut butter cup will vape really good at 4.5 watts with fresh wick, slowly going up to 5.5 watts after 4 or 5 tanks. I replace the cotton weekly in the 3 Protanks I have. Also, be sure it is 100% cotton and boil the sizing out.

If it works it works. ;)

Another method I tried and liked was to just wrap a couple loops of thread around the air holes (just above the threads) and knot it. So small even with the tank off it's hard to see and works great, just add or subtract loops to adjust the air flow to taste.

Oooh...that's a good idea. I went a little more extreme and used some Permatex to fill in three of the channels. Worked great but now I'm thinking the thread might have been a little easier....lol.

I have tried de-wickin, re-wickin and even tried a evod head and it still has muted flavor compared to even cheep c4 cleros, back to my Boge cartos I go ...

Oh well it's a cool looking paperweight.

One mans paperweight is another's treasure. I would be happy to pay postage.

I have to chime in. I am a 2 week noob to vaping. I have an ego twist and started out with CE3 XL clearos due to availability and mixed but mostly good reviews. I was not overly impressed with them, though, so started looking for something better that can hold more juice and doesn't leak. Protank reviews are 90% full of love across the web, so I ordered one, and let me tell you that from the minute I filled it and attached the head I knew this was going to work out for me. It is so easy to use and has worked with any juice I've thrown at it, including 100% VG. I have had no leaks. I can't speak much on flavor and other things, but the flavor is the same if not better than the CE3's. The only thing that causes issue is the coils and wick get gunked up after a tank or two and has a plastic taste that's kind of nasty, but cleaning and dry burning them fixes that - which is such a simple task. I can tell this is a hobby that can easily become an obsession, but to have to work so hard for a quality toke for what is supposed to be a nice and effective alternative to smoking is not at all ideal and quite frustrating. I would recommend this bad boy to any noob over anything else. Additionally, I can sort of see how the airy draw is a setback, but in the end prefer it over the bust-a-lung feel of the CE3's...just end up with dry mouth more often.

This thread is awesome for the tips and direct links to alternate wicking and such...will have to try that out. I did try to block some holes, but I think I overdid it and it caused some flooding and was the beginning of the burnt plastic taste...so not sure it is even worth it. I think a higher VG with more nicotine can help due to the increase of vapor from the VG, and the high nicotine replaces the missing burn of PG, so it's not necessary to suck so hard on the damn thing for good vapors. That is what I am finding out that I like anyway...a ....-ton of vapor in my lungs. I thought I'd like the burning throat sensation because it would mimic smokes more accurately, but it's kind of annoying.

Anyhoo...a lot of this is subjective, bottom-line is it works great, is low maintenance, not a single leak, easy to fill and holds a lot of juice, and I haven't had an 'analog' since I popped it on my Twist 5 days ago.

On day three with my KPTs. So far, I've boiled them with vinegar to reduce the metallic taste, which worked pretty well.
Yesterday I tried a EVOD head in each to tighten the draw. This worked a little, but today, they both leaked onto the batteries. The tube in the EVOD heads is much smaller than the stock KPT head, which I assume is the culprit. So I dont know how compatible EVOD heads are in KPTs anymore. If I missed something, by all means, let me know.
Put the regular heads back in today and stuck toothpick tips in two of the three connector holes, which has adequately tightened the draw.
Next time I'm near a Radio Shack, I'll pick up a pack of heat shrink to shrink around the drip tip.
Frankly, I prefer the EVODs, but wish they were pyrex and held a little more juice, but can't seem to have everything.

Welcome aboard the vapeing train nuttyriv3r and Rodeorat.

Every setup has it's own tradeoffs, find what you can live with and keep an eye to the future, our gear is getting better and better every day.

Took me a bit to adjust to the cleaning requirements of the KPT coming from an eGo-T, but now that I understand what is needed it's just part of my refilling routing to go wash out the tank and head before filling. Far cry from the just replace the atty every 3 weeks or so but the quality of the vape is so much better it's well worth it.

As for the airy draw, tie 2-3 loops of thread around the air holes just above the threads until the draw is where you like it. It's fast and easy to change and doesn't potentially damage anything in the process.

The heat shrink sounds interesting, at first I just used one of the little rubber cups a spare head came in and put a hole in it. Worked but in the end I just got use to the metal tip. Have seen some tip condoms for when you want to share with others but don't have a link handy right now.

Anyways, best of luck to both of you in avoiding the stinkies and congratulations in making the first steps.

I've been using them for two months and I like them better than anything I've tried in three and a half years of vaping! They don't leak and no dry hits. I like the easy draw and don't find it too airy for me. I don't mod mine in anyway and I have no problems with it. The replacement coils are only about 1.25 each.:)

Brilliant.

I didn't have any Hello Kitty band aids and just used a regular one.

Worked awesome.

I'm going to try the teflon tape when I get back from The City.

Just got mine and so far I'm liking it. The vivis were my favorites prior to this, but I didn't like the tight draw of them. I guess we all have different preferences, but the the airy draw is great for me. I got tired of feeling like I was trying to pull a thick smoothie through a small straw. I like the noisiness too. I like to hear that crackling/sizzling because it tells me it and the battery are working which keeps me from flooding or getting juice in mouth.

Of course I like the glass. Has anyone done a durability test? I didn't have the time to read all 300 replies, but one poster said it fell on the concrete and held up just fine.

I rebuilt mine with a cotton wick before I even fired it once. It's pretty much the same as rebuilding a vivi except for that post that's kinda hard to pull out of the top of the head. The only thing I don't like is that grommet is a little long, hard to deal with it on a rebuild. I imagine it will rip after a few times of yanking it out of there. That's the only weakness I see so far.

I've been chain vaping it for about half an hour. So far so good. I just hope it doesn't leak like some have said it does. Leaking is high on the list of annoyances. Time will tell.

It's a relief to have this ProTank so far. I wonder if I will use those 20 unopened vivi 3.5s...

edit: Some people care about the presentation/packaging. I think the packaging is over the top. Save the gloss/color/waxy-thick instructions and knock down the price.

I had the same problem, all I did was cut a piece of plastic with a hole in the center. Place on the bottom of the tank before screwing on your device. Problem fixed.....BTW Taste is great, better then my viva nova

Took off the band aid and wrapped the bottom with teflon tape, poked out the holes...works wonderful.

I guess I'll have to go find that plastic washer video.

I was thinking of using a nice clay poker chip.

Someone should design the perfect spacer and start manufacturing them.
I'll bet we could get China to make them for next to nothing.
