ok i made my first ever youtube video, dont laugh, not shaved or combed my hair, w t f i dont care, ok im lmao.
i dont vape at 28w , demo only, but man the nic hits were hitting me using only 3mg

Hey V…thanks for shown' us the beast.

Good demo for the folks that KGD requires compression. It's a linear wick, long fibers tightly aligned. Compress it and it's like throttling the end of a blunt garden hose.

And those getting wet spitting shouldn't assume flooding from over wicking. Often it's the opposite.

However, if you do over compress KGD by rolling it or too tight a coil for capacity, it will like any wick go dry on ya and you will take some dry hits.

I use a cut about 3/8" wide (that's almost 4x the 2.5mm coil Ø). Separate one of the outside combed panels removing as little of the interior cotton as possible. Don't twirl KGD, or rope it, just softly squeeze it and tightly compress a very short fine pencil tip. Fish it out if need be with a tweezers to being the pull of the wick through.

Once enough is through to grasp with fingers, I start stretching the material taught from the other end. Increase the pull as more gets over or it may hang. This is usually enough compression to allow this 4x thickness to go through. That's a lot of wick and I didn't deform the fibers or alignment in any way getting it through.

You want to keep at least one side of the combed backing. It is extremely compressed and an important part of why KGD wicks with such velocity. The rough cotton interior may have excellent saturation and retention but no better flow than regular organic cotton balls. It will flow much better if you keep at least one side of backing. Saturate better if you remove just one.

Great first video V. Thx!

Good luck all.

:)

p.s. If you remove a bit too much of the interior cotton, no worries. You can easily add (or remove if too tight) a few fibers!

actually the vid is w/rayon, i split the rayon roll width in half this time w/the included 0.5 coil.
once through i try to undue the twisting and move it back and forth to loosen it up somewhat plus i thinned out the tails in a different way this time and it seems to be holding up as in vid.

w/cotton skin removed i use less thickness than w/rayon but same technique.
im trying different ways to see which performs best, but def less thickness will get dryhits eventually w/out prepriming.

for stuck rba chimneys tapping it on a hard surface will sometimes free it up.

Agreed. And good point, rayon likes even more compression. More wick more flow, within reason.

Take care and good luck V.

This cotton has seems to be in a sleeve, do take the sleeves off leave one on or leave them both on hope you know what im getting at,Tried it with the sleeves on & it seems fine (re wicking 1.2 coil). Thanks for any input.
sleeve=skin=top layer theres 2 of them.
ive seen it all, left on, one or both removed.

They're happy fire crackers, I like them :D
I seem to get this more on spaced coils..

Yeah, I am using the default pre-coiled coil that came with my rba kit from subtank mini. Its a bit spaced for sure . so whats what may cause it ? I am asking because they are bothering me recently. Its like a bomb lol .. its exploding and i dont like it when its bothering me so much. :)

I would like to ask is there any reason why the subtank mini is popping a lot with the stock OCC 0.5 ohm head and even with the RBA deck again with the stock pre-coiled coil at 0.5 ohm as well ... it's like firecrackers in my mouth lol :p

Get used to it for those new vapers landing on this page. It seems to be very natural behavior for such large wicks with Japanese cotton (diffuse dry vape). Rattle snake popping is common to relatively dry wicking or when you're breaking in a fresh one. Nothing to be concerned about. Rebuild these with tighter denser coil/wick combo's and see more vapor and density minus the rattles.

Good luck.

:)

I got the Kangertech subtank mini over the Nano because it has 4.5 ml tank and uses the OCC heads. I just want to vape and stay off cigarettes. I also wanted a bit more flavor than what my Aspire Atlantis gives me which hold 5 ml. [I have been using the Atlantis when i wake up in the morning] --- I did not primarily get it to build coils, though that was also available. I think my build deck needs alteration in order to work. I like the 1.2 ohm OCC heads. They are moderately cooler than the 0.5 ohm and works well at 15 w.

I can't decide if I want to get another nano or get a mini. I prefer the nano size as juice capacity is not a concern and I like smaller tanks but I like the rebuilding option on the mini. At the same time, I know I can rebuild the stock coils but I've typically had very inconsistent results with wicking when I try to rebuild and usually get annoyed with dry hits and end up using a new stock coil instead. Basically if I don't intend to use the RBA base then I will get a nano but I just don't knoooow... I need advice lol. I mean if you get a nice rebuild on the stock coil instead of the RBA base, would you say it vapes better than a RBA build? I do have several other RBA that I barely use due to me not getting good build so it's not like I won't have other RBA options but I do like the subtank design and the option to use both. Ahhh can't decide!!

Broke out the dreml and opened up the juice channels tonight.. and it made it better, chain vaping till the nic hits me with a juicy vape the whole time, yay for me!

I gauged the juice channels on mine at 1.3mm ID, opened them up to 1.8mm, haven't noticed any leaking yet :) all improvement so far.

Same coil and same wicking method before and after.

Hi Mac!

My last 3 re-wicks have been with a slightly wider piece and both skins removed from the KGD. I haven't noticed any difference between removing only one side and both. I still get great wicking with zero gurgling or spitting! I'll go back to one side off on the next re-wick... probably soon now that all my Kanthal is here! LOL!

I would go with the mini, you may not want to build now, but at least you have the option there if you change your mind, and it is pretty easy to build on, as far as rebuildables go.
