Apparently there is a 22m version and a 23mm version.
The guy who sells the kayfun Black Editions is selling the 23mm version. Yours is 22mm.
You might be able to screw the nautilus base in from the side opening and then screw the tank on while the Kato is held upside down.
Have not tried it myself though.

interesting. I did not know that. but a little searching confirms two different ring diameter versions 22mm and 23mm.

the authentic Kato ring diameter is 23.5mm

I had no idea there were two versions. Upon reading the eBay specs, it's pretty clear there are two. The eBay one is full SS, which is kinda crazy as it weighs in at 320g without batteries. That's like the VTR. As to the Kick not fitting with an 18490, it seems that one needs to remove the spring to accommodate.

Mine just arrived today. Its the 18500 size.
I also have a 18650 on its way and should be here maybe tomorrow if not then Monday. I got it here and its listed as the 23mm ring diameter size.
KATO SQUARE BOX STYLE MECHANICAL MOD - Custom Mod Creation

Ok, for the 18500 style i have now. Button tops fit fine and the Nautilus fits fine, Well for the most part, lol. I have 3 reg size Nautilus's. All authentic or should be. I tried them all in the Kato.

2 of them fit through the ring fine with room to spare the third one barely touches the inner diameter of the ring sliding it through. Barely. Its the stainless steel part of the Nautilus directly where the glass tank sits thats the culprit. Its clearly a tad wider then the other two.

Regardless, a slight wiggle and it slides down and comes out the same way. It may be a manufacturing error by Aspire. Or maybe there was a slight design change that was never mentioned.

I dont have a kick so I cant confirm a kick works with button tops but I think it should sense button tops alone fit just fine.

Where did you get 18500 version?

I got it from a US seller on ebay. Its the authentic Kato, but I shot him my best offer price and surprisingly he accepted. I wanted it for the smaller form factor. Its very comfortable to use and I cant find anything I dislike with the quality.

size comparison to VTR

I have the 18650 version and only flat top batteries work. I'm using Efest 18490 and Sony VTC5 18650. A kick works with my Efest 18490 flat top. The kick goes on top of the Kato's positive spring and the battery goes on top of the kick.

Didn't realize there were 2 versions of the Kato 18650 with different size rings. My Nautilus definitely goes thru the ring without problem. Got mine on this FB forum. Here's a pic with another person's Nautilus fitting fine with his Kato clone...

Im hoping I got the same version as you. I dont really care about the flat top batteries only, but the smaller ring size will be a bummer. thanks again for all your info with this.

Can't believe they're selling a Kato with smaller ring. Bigger ring so you can fit most tanks is the Kato's main appeal. Small ring killed the VTR for me.

Just got the 18650 clone I got from custommodcreations.com.

meh, not really impressed and a little disappointed. 18650 button tops wont work, no biggie. Flat tops were a tight fit. Had to do some adjusting to the fire button as it initially fired continuously from tight fit. Fire button mechanism a little gritty, scratchy. Not a smooth motion at all like the authentic. Finish and engravings noticeably not as nice as authentic.

Nautilus does not fit inside ring. That wont be hard to fix. but as long as the squape reloaded fits I may just leave the ring alone. Still, very unimpressed by this downsizing of the ring diameter.

I know, I know, its a clone so its not supposed to be as nice as the original. Just posting what I see. Aside from all that it works fine.

So how many clones of this thing are out there? I thought there were only two (22 and 23.5 mm rings). Now it seems that the Custommods are 23 mm. So the Limwell version seems to be all SS and 22 mm. The Custommods is unknown manufacturer, but also seems all SS and 23 mm. Then there's the Focal version (also unknown manufacturer) with SS ends and Alu body with 23.5 mm. Looks like the Focal is the one to get (which I did, yay)

I hope yours is much closer to the authentic then mine was. If so youll have a very nice device. Its my own fault, I didnt do enough research before I ordered this one. I was completely unaware of the different ring size diameters at the time. This one does have the Alu body. I do have the authentic 18500, and its really nice, quality top notch. Maybe that adds to why this one from custom mods seems a bit like a dud to me.

I also didnt realize there were this many clones from different manufacturers out this quickly, but obviously there are. let us know how the one from Focal is.

So I just checked the Focal site and they have changed the specs. They now say the following:

Width for top frame ring: 23.5mm
(Allows you to use atomizer with 23mm diameter)

whereas previously they stated inner ring diameter as 23.5mm. Given the new information from dsheik about the Alu body of the CM version, the Focal and the CM version might actually be the same. I guess I will find out when I get mine.

Everything is great now. I took the fire button apart and made adjustments. Its fine now. I haven't tried it yet but I think now I could even use button tops if I wanted to, not that its a big deal either way.

The ring diameter has been fixed. I took a dremel and a sanding drum and cleared .5mm or so. I went slowly and carefully at a slow speed. Its very even and smooth. No sharp edges.

I really felt I needed to do that because I still rebuild Nautilus coils to single micro coils sometimes and I prefer the Nautilus (when everything is good) to my Kayfun so the Nautilus not fitting was just not going to fly.

Thought I would put up a pair of picks of how I'm using the Kato. The one picture is with the Pontus which I freakin love, the trick is making sure the air holes line up properly. Once you accomplish that, your good to go.
This thing is ideal for a kayfun as well.

I made an attempt at changing the orientation of the pics with no success, the hell with it.
