Kayfun 3.1 Clone Fill valve leaking

I have a hcigar kayfun 3.1 clone that I have been using for over 2 years now. I just did a rebuild a couple days ago and today I went to fill it with my syringe and plastic taper tip, and the fill valve keeps sticking wide open. Anyone have any ideas or methods that I can try to get the dang thing to close? I really don't want to have to tear it apart again considering I just cleaned it a couple days ago. I think the fill valve is composed of a spring and a ball bearing that sits flush against a seal that keeps it closed. I wish it were possible to repair the valve or replace springs. That would almost certainly fix these problems.

I eventually got it to close, but still any ideas on how to easily fix it? If it probably wouldn't make me sick I would grease the valve, but I can't do that. Maybe if I could think of a food grade and safe lubricant that might make the ball slide easier.

VG should work.
I don't have the kayfun tho.
