Okay, what has it been? About 2 weeks?

A few notes:

Adjustable center pin - loose and might back off or fall out? No, that is by design. Same as the Ithaka center pin. it can be backed out. You install the tank and the screw makes contact, but allows the tank to continue turning to seat on the mod. Can't fall out, mod is under it.

Air Flow/Whistle - Center shaft alignment? Not hardly. The center slot is to direct incoming air up through the chimney. The area where the slot sits is much larger than the upper and lower bore. Plenty of room for air to flow around and up.
*don't worry, I had the same thought before a full tear down and inspection.

What do you mean by this center pin info; I though it was just a 2nd screw that covers the center post screw?

And the whistle, are you saying that the slot in the post and the air hole don't have to be aligned?

For the center post, here's a picture of the SS Rocket, which is more open, to give you a picture of how it works:

The lower screw doesn't have to go all the way in, allowing you to adjust it up or down to suit the mod you're putting it on.

As far as airflow goes, take the insulators out, put the screw in. Lots of wiggle room, neh?

Bingo!

Yes, the manufactures do take things into consideration and often a Clone will incorporate modifications to improve on an original concept.
i.e. the Russian91% copy of the Kayfun.

As to the Silver edition - Only logical Tobacco would copy a special request(Black Edition) to provide a an improved device more to the liking of potential customers.
Remember China and copy rights/patents are foreign to each other. Once a Special request for a production run is met they consider the design or improvement fair game.
I believe the Black Edition has consisted of 2 x 400 piece orders. Once sold these may be the last due to Tobacco copying for themselves.
At least one thing good has come from this - A new Better release is now available and others should quickly follow suit.

All I care about now is making sure that whatever clone I buy next has the deeper juice channels...

Yeah the one I had on order from FastTech had the deeper channels, but didn't have air control.. I'm starting to think air control is a joke. Supposedly the new versions don't whistle? Well mine does.

I'm having wicking issues, getting gross tasting dry burn... thinking seriously about carefully grinding out the channels.. but not just yet, because I haven't seen anyone else mention poor wicking with this version.

I wonder.... if this Black Ed. still has certain problems (shallow juice channels, crappy screw set) at $50...

Then is there a better rebuildable for $50, or even $55?? Like this, for example, HCigar Taifun GT Clone $54.99 - VividSmoke.com ???

Here's another one I've just come across.... http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ms/484445-uvo-systems-aqua-i-want-badboy.html , which is available for $20 from you know where --> $20.00 Aqua Style Rebuildable Atomizer - 2*drip tips / hybrid connector pin at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I actually ordered this Black Ed. KFL yesterday morning, and I'm already regretting it. Should have done some more researching, honestly.... There are way more rebuildables than I initially realized. I just see "Kayfun Lite" mentioned more than any other atomizer.... so "new and improved clone" had to be the best thing around, right? Meh.... I'm not quite so sure this thing is worth $50.

My juice channels on my black edition kayfun seem shallow.. and I'm using a 80% vg juice from Mbv.. when I first got it I set it up and was getting burnt hits every 3 or 4 drags and had to primer puff with my finger over the airhole..

Now I'm vaping worry free of dry hits and i bet it was my build. My dry hit free build consists of a 30 gauge microcoil at 1.5 ohms sitting about 1 mm above the raised center post.. I'm using cotton and I rip off a piece I can twist to be a little too thick to fit through the coil and long enough to be trimmed a tiny bit passed the 22 mm kayfun base when the cotton is held out straight horizontally. While threading the cotton through the coil I hold each end and twist to make it tighter to slide through. When I get to the middle I make sure its twisted thin enough so it slides in the coil with hardly any resistance.. just enough so its fully touching the inside walls of the microcoil. I then wet the wicks and push them down and across the bottom of the wick deck so they are pushed to the corner where the wick deck meets the block. The wicks run the entire length of this corner just enough so they won't catch the threading of the chimney. I make sure they have good contact with the lower wick deck. Before screwing on the chimney I press them away from the juice wells so there just a tiny gap of blank space on the wick deck around the juice wells to not block any juice flow.. but they sit close enough to the well to suck up any juice that enters.

I understand this is the basic setup and you have probably tried this.. but maybe I was able to describe something in depth enough to help solve ur wicking issue. Personally my kfl+ black edition wicks like a beast like this. Good luck!

Not sure why someone has started blaming Juice channels for lack of building ability.

I've been running this Black addition for 2 weeks. I use my own DIY 50/50 e-liquids, no watering down or anything. No flooding and NEVER a dry hit. I can and Do sit and chain Vape it from time to time. Just something about my latest RY4 that I can't put it down.:)

The channels may or may not be fractionally different than the original, but that in and of itself is not proof of a problem or an improvement. End result would be the primary indicator.
If you fee the channels need more flow room, back off the stack 1/2 turn and see if it improves. If it doesn't and likely wont, either the juice is Very Thick or the Wick is causing blockage.

Imagine Channels that could Handle the thickest VG with ease. Now fill that setup with a 70/30 and watch it Flood out. There are always compromises in design. Normally to the Masses not the individuals wants.

Thanks benearl1, that was a very good description. I'm gonna pick up some cotton and try that instead. I think 3mm ekowool is not the appropriate wick to use, and it's about time I start making micro coils.

I'm sure the channels aren't to blame, considering I haven't seen anyone complain about them. It's obviously my beginner level skills with this particular RBA.

5th day of work horsing mine, changed my cotton one time, no problems what so ever after 6 tank fulls, it's easily the best topper I've ever owned and it looks killer on the Magneto. Since the seller privatedeal2010 has a new stock, I'm probably going to buy another one..The air adjustment works great on this.
I'm no expert in the RBA dept. - but do they make anything that really beats these things with a good build on them?

This is the most important thing to remember with any topper, I said this exact thing a couple of weeks ago in a protank discussion.

NatureBoy, rip trippers posted a video which is where I learned the build from.. if you follow that you should be golden. He does a chimney coil in the same video which I have not tried personally but it seems like that would work too and others had have success with it.

The way you explained it worked perfectly. Did my first micro coil with organic cotton and it's vaping like a champ (except I don't like the juice I put in it). I used the little screw driver that comes with it to wrap the coils, did 9/10 wraps with 32awg. Multimeter said it was 3 ohms, so I'm just about ready to throw that thing in the garbage.

Anyway, thanks for the help. I'll have a look at the video anyway to check out the chimney coil, they seem interesting too.

I rewicked mine with less cotton last night, and it seemed to work great for the next hour. But started getting dry hits again and into this morning. Tried the covering the airflow hole and doing a hard pull to get the juice flowing, and that works for about 3 or 4 drags after. So I got to mess with mine some more. Going to do a rebuild with some 30gauge tonight after work instead of 28 gauge and try even less cotton. I am not giving up on this thing. I want it to work and it will work. Just gotta find the sweet spot of build and cotton.
