I just checked two of my kayfun's, and yes it is condensation.
My favorite genesis build in a kayfun. Forget those primer puffs and dry hits. Hits like a champ all day long.
Ekowool wrapped stainless steel wire rope.
I never thought of that. When I check it I'll have to taste it. Thanks.
Oooh, do tell.
I've got 24.5' of 3/32 cable left and around 90 or so feet of 3mm ekowool left as well.
3/32 maybe too thick. I use 2mm, not sure what that is in inches. 3mm ekowool is what I have on their now.
It's easy you just bend the wire rope to shape, trim off enough for it to be touching the deck. Oxidize it. Tape one end of the rope so you can thread it through the ekowool. It takes alot of ekowool to make it perfect because a lot of it will fray. you leave the excess ekowool running down the chimney threads. Carefully thread on the chimney; this cuts your eckowool perfectly. Unthread the chimney till it's barley off and blow away excess eckowool. Thread it back on and your good.
I told you to build a fence with it.
2mm is 5/64. 3/32 is next size up which is 2.3mm.
How long does it take you to do this process? I'm not knocking it or anything, but one of the reasons I love cotton or rayon is that I can swap a wick on the go. As an example, I've done one waiting for the train on my way to work.
I do like tinkering though, so may give it a shot one of these days.![]()
I think people speculate too much. It makes sense that if you have too much wick in the coil it would get pinched off. That's what most people would thing (I did). But it just doesn't pan out in real life. I used silica wick and I stuffed 4 strands of 1.0mm silica through a 2.0mm coil. I mean, I had to really yank on that fish tape and hold the exiting side of the coil in place with my finger nail to keep the coil from ripping off the deck. But it never produced a dry hit.
Agree 100%.... I don't remember when the less is better notion started but I fell for it also. My kayfun's worked perfect in the beginning but then I started playing with the less is better notion and spend a month trying to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then I woke up and went back to stuffing my cotton in the coil and have not had a dry hit since then. When I do over stuff you can taste the cotton for first few vapes but then it goes away but even when I over stuff just a bit still no dry hits. So let's just say it.....
MORE IS BETTER........
Thanks so much, I may take you up on that if I can't find them here.
I'm not saying it's impossible dusty but one day I did like 5 builds with progressively more cotton every time thru the coil. The last one was pretty much stuffed where I had to hold the coil from bending as I inserted, even with these amounts I couldn't produce a dry hit. The flavor was very cottony for sure but I only vaped maybe 20 puffs or so. Maybe if I had kept this in for longer, who knows for it may have swelled up more and produced a dry hit. From that day I concluded that a dry hit was most likely a cause from not enough cotton which I also tested. Along with the too much cotton test, I also did a few builds with progressively less cotton and in a short time with insufficient cotton, I was getting dry hits.I don't think you can say more is better because there will come a point where you will choke off the coil, and the cotton is burnt.
I think the "Less is more" saying came about after a lot of folks started following the videos etc put out on youtube, where 1/2 a cotton ball was stuffed into a coil and then complained about burnt and off flavour hits. It was one of the most common things a few months ago.
Post a picture.. yup, way too much cotton.. "Less is more". IMHO, you get to the point where you progress enough with your understanding of how wicking works over time, and just "get it".
Once you get it, stick with it and stop experimenting.![]()

I don't think you can get too much cotton inside the coil to the point that it chokes off and will not wick. In my tests I could not get to much cotton in the coil. Yes if you use too much you can taste the cotton. You can vape through that and the taste goes away or just pull the cotton out and replace. My tests are using regular cotton, organic cotton and japan cotton
I believed that too until i saw it first hand. The thing is there is no "choking" of coil, there is too many strands in a small space will take longer to transport liquid.
