I've re-wicked my KFL. No more dry hits. Flavor has diminished a little over my original. But to be fair it's only been soaking in the chamber for a couple of hours or so. Will probably improve overnight.

Here's what I did:
1. raised the micro coil a fraction of a millimeter

2. use approximately 30% - 40% less cotton than the orignal
View attachment 240310
the wick here is saturated with juice in this pic

What do you guys think? Should I tweak the coil height or wick girth further?

i think the coil height looks pretty good, pretty much like mine. as for the cotton its hard to say. i don't really know what mine looks like after i saturate it. i do know how it looks after installing it. my tails seem a little shorter.

I notice that whatever type of build I make, the coil needs to sit very close to the air hole for it not to feel dry. When its at the right distance, its just perfect. To me it seems the micro coil is more sensitive to this distance. Maybe give this a shot.

thanks for this tip, now it's vaping good with no dry hit. Night and Day difference!!! I moved the coil close as possible to the base/airhole without touch it. Another thing I did after a new refill was twist the top cap off until I seen some bubble flowing up, than close it. That seen to help with the wicking for some reason.

Nice setup!
What resistance you getting, and what wire do you use?

K-Lite setup with Hemp Twine

3mm Hemp Twine, Single strand 4cms long, 28AWG Kanthal, 7 wraps, 1Ω Coil

TRIM WICK ENDS:

Cut the wick ends to 1cm each. Effective wick size: 3cms.

PREPARATION:
Hemp is a natural fibre with awesome wicking properties, which also lasts long. However, when wet, it smells like sheep's .... Thus, pre-treating it is a must, else you'd have a smelly Atty forever! I washed the twine under running lukewarm water, then kept it rinsed overnight in a saline solution (5 teaspoons of salt in a cup of water). Washed it up again the next day AND now boiled it for 15-20 minutes in saline water. Then, put it thru running water while gently scrubbing it with an old toothbrush. Whereafter, boiled it once again in regular water for 15-20 minutes. Remove, rinse, squeeze and blow dry. And now you have a superb wick there. Yep, lots of work!

PLACING THE WICK ENDS:
Slightly moist the wick ends and place them on either sides of the deck. Then screw-in the chamber tube section without the chimney top. The tube will screw-in unhindered as the moist wick ends will not budge from the deck. Drop some e-juice and fire it up. There should be nice vapour. Continue dripping and burning some more... that takes away any leftover smells. Now screw-in the chimney top while keeping the wick & coil saturated.

NOTE: The correct size of the wick is very important... we don't want longer wicks, else it'd take time to saturate between vape draws and we'd've dry-hits. 1cm on either end is fine. Also, with Hemp, we should loosen up the fibre strands a bit after coiling it up -- that assists in wicking.

THE COIL PLACEMENT:
It's wise to keep the coil as low as possible over the central Airflow Channel of the K-Lite. That ensures good vapor production, nice flavor and enough TH. The farther it's from the air channel vapor production will continue to get compromised. There's actually not much playing field in the Kayfuns, which is good. We can at max play around in +/- 4mm tolerances. I choose to keep my coil around 1mm from the Airflow Channel, see image below:

Ensure that the coil ends (wire tails) are in the same plane. Then fix the ends into the +ve & -ve posts of the Kayfun keeping the coil head upwards. This, in effect, keeps the coil exactly at 1mm from the airflow channel. We could test it by passing a needle-tip underneath the coil. The distance can be increased by passing the 'eye' end of the needle and wriggling it a bit. But, with the 'tip' end going thru I get that 1mm gap, which suits me fine. U may try a few setups with varied gaps and see what satisfies u best.

NOTE: The coil 'must not' touch the Airflow Channel, else we'd've a dead short there. -DANGER

BOTTOMLINE:
It's been 24hrs. now with this setup and I'm finding it pretty good. Did it yesterday, but chose to post it today b'coz I wanted to test it well. The wick preparation (boiling et all) is of paramount importance for two reasons -- it removes all that nasty smell AND makes the chord more affable to wicking our e-liquids. As of now I'm very happy with the results. It vapes great!

I'm getting some juice popping up through the mouthpiece...just little tiny pin ...... on my tongue. Not all the time but enough to make me mention it. It's been doing this pretty much since I got it but now that I'm getting great flavor and vapor I'm turning my attention to this. Any suggestions?

Just got my KFL yesterday, but I've come to the conclusion that the drip tip used matters.

At first I used a short, wide-mouthed delrin tip and had no issues. Then I decided to try the included tip to see if I liked it. I constantly got the pin ...... popping on my tongue. It was still doing it today, so I went back to my short wide delrin - problem solved.

Don't know if it's the length, material, or hole size, but one of those things is making a dramatic difference.

I get this too with the Kayfun drip tip. Fist 2 setups I made I thought that the KFL is ...... Vaper production was not good and those pin ...... bothered me a lot. Put another driptip on my KFL and everything changed.
Tried this driptip on my Spheroid and get also those pin ....... I think it's because of the small hole on the top, so the vapor and the heat concentrates in this small spot.
