Kayfun LITE

Just built what you've seen me post previously….the difference being, i reduced the diameter of the coil to 1mm, wrapped on a paper clip…naturally the amount of cotton used is minuscule, then i looped the tails back up off the decks and over the top of the coil, completely covering it…wow, even more vapor and flavor is right there and will likely get better when broken in.

1mm 9 wrap on the paper clip with 28 ga and measured 1.2ohm, guess you could call it a nano-coil.

I had a fun little surprise this morning at the PO - my early/late kanthal I've been waiting on. It was supposed to arrive last week, but since USPS 2 day shipping is actually 3 weeks the arrival date got changed to this coming Friday, the 27th. Well without notice, it showed up in my PO box this morning. I got home & finally got to throw my first coil on the KFL+ I've been using as a paperweight for the past week. Other than missing that popcorn sound from my trusty cartotanks, I'm loving it.

I did 7 wraps (I think) of 32g A1 on a 5/64 bit for 2.3 ohms, which was just a touch higher than the 2.0 I was aiming for. I squished it together, but not quite touching & added a tiny little organic cotton wick to it. Loving it! It vapes much better than it did holding down papers on my desk. I'm going to leave this coil be for a while, but I'm going to go with 1 less wrap next time. I like 1.8-2.0 cartos, but this is hitting more like a 3+ carto.

So I thought I was done buying expensive gear, but now I think I need another one. Funny how that works.

Edit: Now I just need to find that red replacement window to complete my Cylon-vari.

That Opaque body to Kayfun III ES will definitely fit the K/fun Lite as well. I however haven't seen them being offered by any of the K/fun resellers... neither by my favourite - InTaste.

Of coarse I knew better but it got by me anyway, this was on my 2.1 but the same I guess for all the K types.
I was at work and filled it from the top, when I removed the top the o-ring stuck on the top of the chimney and I left it that way so when I screwed the top back on it pushed the o-ring even farther down, you know the rest.

Hey I was wondering what is the BEST way to set up a kayfun. I've got my wick stuck up against the side and not blocking the juice chambers. This works very well for some juices, but not thick ones. And I have no idea what "just enough" wick is. I have it set up the same as in this video.

There is no best way just find what works for you. I like 1.2 ohm micro coil with 28g kanthal and cotton yarn looped over like this. They're calling it a Truman coil here. And riptrippers is border line ......ed, IMO. I stay far away from everything he comes up with. It's ......ed. Function over form. Simple is your best friend in a kayfun

I too was a Carto fan for some time, for me they were the most reliable vape there was, until I got my Kayfun Lite working right. No more cartos for me. Now my Kir fanis and Vaperfexion tanks have now become my paperweights. I too need a second one.

I had a similar idea last night, but I didn't act on it. Instead of wanting to put the wick through the coil, I was going to cover it on top..kind of a reverse bedding, if you will. I like wrapping nanos, but I never put the wicks through them, just gets burnt up too fast.

I was sure others have built the KFL this way, and I was in no way saying it's better than the standard Truman method.
My other KFL is still the standard Truman coil/wick setup which works great.

I have yet to have any flavor reduction due to the top wicks getting burned, but I'm not that far into the build. (abt 3.5ml's)

No need for a pic, since my phone takes crappy pics, but here you go.
(It's the diagonally mounted coil (10 wraps over 1/64), wicked like the Truman method, but with wicks over the top instead of on the sides)

OK skittles…here ya go. As mentioned previously, I wrapped this coil on a paperclip that measured 1.05mm, 8ish wraps on 28g Kanthal and 1.1ohms…that was the easy part, the wick however will require some finesse. Cut a strip of cotton about 1/8" wide and very thin, gently preroll it then dampen with eliquid and roll it tight…as you move it thru the coil you'll need to be twisting along the way…kinda like you're screwing it in…it's a bit of a pita and may take you a couple tries to get the quantity of cotton just right…
Once done with that just loop up off the decks and over the coil, wedge the tails on their respective sides of the coil and screw heads.
There's a few variations of this method, all of them will likely produce the same increase in vapor and flavor…this one is producing a ton of thick vapor for me so far…
Next wick change i'll likely go back to the 1.5mm diameter coil, it's way easier to work with, and will likely provide the same results…maybe better.

I tried it....works well but I didn't like all the sparkly stuff on my hands from working with it. I stick with cotton now

I was the one who dubbed your other coil the "Truman Build" hehe. So maybe I'll dub this one the "Truman Cross"?

How would you compare the cross / flavor wick method to the standard truman in terms of vapor and effect on draw?

Heavier vapor for sure Ace...not sure if it's a product of the smaller coil diameter or covering the coil completely....I'd guess it's the covered coil, either way it's an improvement, in the flavor dept. as well, if ever so slightly, and zero effect on the draw...I did use it with the air screw in and it was great, then I removed the screw and got a bit more vapor. Gotta say...the vapor production is ridiculous...I can't see it getting any better than this, granted I haven't tried twisted Kanthal Mundy style, so maybe this same wick style with a twist could bump it up a bit, naturally I have to give that a try at some point, but for now I couldn't be happier with it.

I will try this build tomorrow and post my findings.
BTW have you gone back to a standard wicking lately just to compare? I did and I found that there was less vapor but the vapor was denser. Any thoughts on that?

I've stuck with this internal/external wick style...and here I'll stay.

You'll want to unravel the wick tails and slightly flatten them out when you place them over the coil for better coverage.
