A place some call paradise
Hello I've read a few pages of this thread but it's so long. I've found that typically there are people in places like this that like to answer the noob questions so I'm gonna be lazy today and just ask.
I'm currently using cartos and I'm more than happy with them. But I've decided that there is a possibility that the vaping world will change eventually and I won't be always able to get what I normally do. So now I'm starting to think its time to get into rebuildables.

So there are two things that receive the best reviews from the forums I've read: kayfun and the sophia. From what I'm told the kayfun is the easiest rebuildable. Is this true? I'm the kind of guy that will just keep saving up to get the best quality thing rather than buying a clone that will break so what all do I need to get started? Meters? Drill bits? Cotton? Oh man I'm overwhelming myself already.
Where do I get all of this stuff from? Best prices? Links? Is there a starter kit for this type of thing? Also how much should I be expecting to spend on the initial purchases and then how much of a monthly investment is it?

I'd head over to youtube and check out the numerous kayfun builds, Andrew has some of the best. As far as gathering up the parts…your local vape store will have the 28 gauge wire you'll need, or any number of online sites, Kidney Puncher is a great one, the drill bit is in your garage and the cotton is at your local pharmacy…

If you are new to rebuildables, I would start with ones that only need resistance wire. I have a Sophia, and it needs NR-R-NR wire, and is much more fiddly, IMO, to build. I love my KFL+, and I love my GP Spheroid. Just as easy to build, but not as bulky as the KFL. And the flavor is just as good, if not better.

This suggestion came from GrimmGreen…2 bucks a roll at Michael's, lets call it QuikWick material, works perfectly in a 1.5mm micro-coil, I'm not tasting anything unusual compared to what I normally use.

I use this for all my builds. I can't seem to get a consistent wick using cotton balls, either too much or too little. This is the perfect density every time.

I use it in my Spheroid. Excellent stuff. Be sure and boil it first. 20 minutes, full rolling boil.

I always boil, Drain and then boil again. Usually do a couple feet at a time. I'm a trucker and running out of prepared wick would suck. That and I've got five tanks in rotation, all with a different juice.

I'll bet that would suck...I'll bet you also carry a ton of juice and batteries...and a pass-thru or two

I think I boiled about 20 ft, cut up into about foot long pieces...looked like spaghetti for supper...

@Cob24, first of all you should take the time to research the subject before just diving into it head first. A lot of bad things can and will go wrong. Any rebuildable can be built with any gauge wire, not just 28g... It would depend alot on the rebuildable you are rebuilding, what device you are putting it on, and the batteries in said device... There are many variables to consider and just because someone recommends putting a Kayfun on a Nemi, built with 28g wire and Peaches and Creme for a wicking material, doesn't mean that is the setup that will work for you. Someone told me almost 3yrs ago, just because something works for someone else, doesn't necessarily mean it will work for you!!! Very wise words and probably the best advice I have received to date. I know this is all new like a shiney new toy, but as I said, things can go terribly wrong very fast...

I could be wrong, but what I believe Cob is doing IS researching. He simply asked for our opinions on the KFL thread, and we offered him our experiences.

Sounds like you had a bad experience. I'm interested to know what went so "terribly wrong" so fast.

Never really had a bad experience on my part in 3yrs due to researching I've done on items I have purchased and used. Just letting him know to be cautious in his search was all.

Six Kayfuns/Russians down, since six months into it now, I can safely opine/state that the K/fun types have changed my vape life They have today become my ADV devices... 'grab-n-go' types ~ without any second thought.

TEN REASONS WHY I LIKE KAYFUN/S:
1. Easy to build (no NR-R-NR needed, aka CE2 type builds),
2. No 'tilting' needed (aka Gennys),
3. Can be kept whatever way you like (I keep mine horizontally) w/out fear of leaking,
4. The OD is right (22mm) ~ perfect for most mods as they are mostly of similar OD,
5. Easy to change Wick & Coil (hint at Microcoil & Cotton),
6. Is very forgiving/accommodating. Whatever way you build it - it just performs,
7. Gr8 VTF (yes there are others - but not on as easy builds as the Kayfuns),
8. Good tank capacity (around 4ml) - lasts a day for most,
9. Priced Right√ (around $100 for the K-Lites and the Russians) ~ thus hi-end but affordable,
10. Gr8est for Microcoil & Cotton ~ thus saves time, effort, energy and money.

BOTTOMLINE: Grab the Kayfun Lite (better still the Russian 91%... ya I know - it's a clone - but whatta grand copy it is - and bettered too), use it for a while and then think of the Carto-RBAs (Sophia &/or Diver v2). Since you are new into RBAs the Sophia might need a steeper learning curve.

Agreed...homework is good, which is exactly what I told him to do, then answered his other question..."where do I get what I need". So I gave him very common widely used ingredients... Not really seeing the big danger here, unless by mistake he builds an ultra sub-ohm coil...could happen. And I don't recall recommending a Nemesis...

6 hour drive to Arizona tomorrow. Decided to engage beast mode. 9ml of juice using the one piece extended chimney!
