Gunk build up depends on your juice. But, I wouldn't know, I've always used micro coils. Never a traditional coil

Most of my juices last a whole tank, but I have a juice that's really sweet shazamazam by innovape, really good stuff but it gunks up within half a tank, I can tell because the vapor would just turn really harsh out of nowhere and when I take my KFL apart it's all black. I was just wondering how some people go 2 or 3 tanks without even changing wicks or dry burning, I've always changed my wicks every tank. I feel like the coil would gunk faster than the wicks needing to be replaced or changed.

Do micro coils gunk up faster than standard spaced out wraps? anyone got any feedback on this?

There's not a huge difference, but coils with touching wraps (whether micro or mini) tend to go a little longer than spaced out wraps. Thickness plays a part too, lower gauge thicker wire gunks slower than higher gauge thinner wire.

It all depends on the juice. SuperX who started the micro coil trend just vapes unflavored, so can go a week easily before needing to change out cotton or dry burning. I vape a lot of NETs and gunkier juices, so I dry burn at least once a day. My cotton is still good but the coil is gunky and tasting off. Some people are more picky about dirty coils than others too. I'm pretty picky, I like to take care of it at the first sign of reduced performance. I can easily go a few days if I'm vaping clean juices, but dirty juices is what I vape a lot of so I'm used to regular cleaning.

I always try to run juices that I know do not ruin my wick. A lot of my juice is mount baker vapor and I can run my wicks through 3 to 5 tanks lol. Other juices I use on a dripper. Or I avoid them

Sorry, if this has been brought up already. I just got a plus clone, and it is putting the lite to shame. What size bit should I use to get the same airflow with a plus wide open? I have the airflow control screw with about 2 threads able to be seen outside of body, so it doesn't catch on anything. Thanks

I'm the opposite, I like the lite much more than the lite plus :( sorry

Just bought some Peaches and Cream yarn from Wally World. I boild it for 20 minutes and slapped it into my .062 micro coil. So far I'm not impressed at all compared to plain cotton ball. I'm getting a burn taste almost immediately so I cut a couple small strands and just tucked them along the sides of the coil. That helped but not much.

Anyone have any experience with this yarn? What is the secret to this stuff. I was hopping for a more consistent way to use cotton but if this is as good as it gets I'll be going back to cotton balls. :(

I don't have a plus. But my unplus (in nearly 4 months) has never leaked a molecule of juice, never given me a dry hit (not once), never flooded, been the easiest rebuild yet, and given me the best flavor of any device I have ever owned.

Other than that it is a total piece of crap!

What is the inner diameter of your coil? If it's too small, the yarn would choke and not get enough juice thus causing it to burn. Remember that yarn expands just like cotton. I can comfortably slide my yarn into a 2mm ID coil and even have it a little loosely sitting in a 2.3mm coil.

If the ID of your coil is too small, you may want to separate a couple of the strands from the yarn before sliding it into your coil.

Wondering when the standard is going to be mundy's magic twisted ribbon wire is going to be the standard vape build for the KFL? I've seen a couple people using it, does anyone got pics of feedback on how it's vaping?

I think the issue is that its a time consuming process and as far as I know cant be purchased already done. I have received some of this twisted ribbon wire last month and absolutely love it. I received a 3 stranded version and also a 2 stranded version. in a previous post one was talking about coils getting gunked, I along with many others deal with this, its just something that happens and depending on your juice it determines just how long one can go before dry burning. well one main advantage I am finding out with the twisted ribbon is just how much longer it takes for the coil to gunk. actually I haven't seen my coil gink up yet, I have to change the cotton way before having my coils gunk. I guess its all the nooks & cranny's that prevent the wire from getting gunked up, the gunk seems to get burned away sort of like a self cleaning coil. pretty amazing stuff indeed. basically its 2 or 3 strands of ribbon twisted into one wire.

Oh yeah, one thing I wanted to mention was the draw is airier than I like, so I put a piece of tape over half the airhole for a temporary fix. If anyone has any tips to tighten up the draw that would be awesome.
hey jerms glad your liking the kayfun, are you using the drip tip that came with it? I know it has a very small opening which imo restricts it a little to much for me but does tighten up the draw. if you don't have this tip and want it I could send it to you

That would be .062 as I said in my post. and yes it was sitting fairly loose but not too loose and yet not to snug. I fluffed up the yarn slightly which had 4 strands in it. But yeah it was still a no go.

Try separating the strands and use only 3. If you have problems inserting it, try folding a small bit of Kanthal in half, and use it like a needle and thread, that really helps.

.6 ohms is a little low to be running in a tank, at least in the kayfun in my opinion. I use it and have great success? What are you wrapping your coil on? If your coil is choking your wick, it won't be able to get juice to the coil, and will burn. If you're using 1/16th like I am, cut one strand out of the yarn. There should be little drag when sliding your cotton through the coil. Also try wicking it like this
u4a8uvyt.jpg

The yarn goes through the coil, loops to the deck, and back up to the coil. 1.2 ohms on 1/16th bit with 28g kanthal. 50/50 juice. Never a leak, never a burn. Only greatness. Pm me if you have any other questions.

If you're stuck on lower than 1 ohm coils in your kayfun, is suggest going back to what you were using if that was working. I've never been able to get coils below 1 ohm to not burn... For very long

Just wanted to post my findings on the lastest truman wick creation pictured below.

I think this method works better than the standard Truman. The vape is more saturated possibly due to more wick surface area touching the coils and the increased airflow and the 'flavor wick' nature of the setup but that's just an assumption.

The taste, for me, was a little better than the original Truman and the vapor production was better also. I've built about 5 or 6 Trumans over the last couple of weeks so I think I've got a good feel on how his latest creation performs comparatively.

If you tried the Truman and had airflow issues then I suggest giving this one a try. I could tell no difference in air flow between this build and a standard micro-coil kayfun build. Also this method is a little easier to build.

Give it a try.

edit: Just a note that these types of builds take a while to break in. Maybe like a 1/4 of a tank before it really opens up.

I used to place my coils diagonal across the air hole and then run my cotton across the deck. Recently I've rebuilt all my coils and placed then straight across so that my cotton wick runs straight down to the deck instead of across it. I find this works much more consistant for me.
