I'm just grateful multiple people didn't quote that post donnah. Wow, that was long.

I must confess I couldn't read the whole thing!

Didn't mean to cause a hardship for anyone. I just thought it might help some of the people who were having problems. My apology.

I did it!! I wrapped my first coil today! 30ga 8/9 wraps on 2mm mandrel...2.0 ohms. I then took a piece of yarn which is 4 strands and took out 2, doubled it up and pulled thru the coil with a needle/loop. You may be asking why didn't he just use the full strand? Well, I actually don't know why other than threading it thru the coil was much easier looped and it seems that I have more "fingers" on the deck!! Been thru about half a tank of HHV dark horse and not a gurgle or a dry hit!! Running my provari at 4.2 ohms.

The only thing is that I was shooting for 1.5-1.8 ohms!! Do I do more wraps or less, I get confused on this one?!?
Thanks for everyones help and letting me brag for just a moment!!:toast:

Edit-- I know that Q sent me a chart or something with the length being the factor for ohms, I think, but I'm not getting that just yet as far as measuring out my wire...do you actually measure the length of the kanthal prior to starting the coil?? It seems most people talk about wraps, diameter, etc but anyway, I will keep experimenting!!

ZBeast,

Congrats! When I use yarn, I do the same thing...use a bit of wire folded in half as a needle, makes it easier.

Next time, do one LESS wrap and it will be a lower resistance. Probably around 1.8, that's what mine are.

Im sure this has been mentioned a few times during this topic, but i'm taking my chances and ask anyway..
I've been chain vaping on my kfl+ since Friday, vaping through about 15ml. I was lucky and got the coil and wick right the first time, havent
had a single problem with it so far.
Now to my question, how often do you guys drain the tank and replace the cotton? Still works great i'd say, can't tell a difference from when i started using it. Afraid i will mess it up when i eventually replace the cotton wick.

I pretty much dry burn my coil and replace my wick after every tank or two at the most. I like a clean coil and can tell a difference with certain juices. I have a banana pudding juice that won't last an entire tank before it starts to get a slight off taste. When I take it apart, the wick and coil are black... so I keep that juice in a genesis (set up with micro and cotton) because it's easier to replace the wick and dry burn the coil without having to empty the tank.

I have 4 kfls and a R91 going and it seems that something needs changing most every day :glare:

Ain't it the truth...2 KFL'S, 1 KF mini, 2 Spheroids, 1 Billet Box, a Reo mini, and a partridge in a pear tree.

It's partially why I rediscovered dripping - so at home I'm using the 2 Origen RDAs and / or the Magma RDA, but when I go to work or am going out I'll take one of the KFL / KFL+'s. Cuts down on the 'maintenance' :)

I love my kfl, but isn't there someone else who also wish that it was actually possible to adjust or redo the coils without draining the juice? For me that's it's biggest weakness (amongst aaaaaall it's strengths of course).

I own an aqua tank which kind of has the same basic parts. because I fill my aqua upside down, I am able to work on the coils without draining the juice. I havent done this with the kayfun because the chimney's top is barely into the oring its a 50/50 chance. if you turn the kayfun upside down and unscrew the base 2 things usually happens, first the whole base and chimney comes out together where the chimney top separates from the (what is it 4-c oring?) or the base unscrews from the chimney bottom, this leaves the chimney still attached to the top cap, if this happens the juice can remain in the tank allowing for one to work on the coils without taking out the juice. maybe if one were to not over tighten the sections of the chimney this might happen more often. but its risky because if the whole chimney separates from the o-ring, its a big mess. 2 things are needed to make the kayfun adapt to make it possible to work on it without taking out the juice would be, for one the chimney base and tin cap to be one piece and also the chimney top hole could be threaded inside, if it were slightly threaded inside the little hole then a male threaded insert could be inserted thru the top cap to hole it in so it wouldn't come out from the bottom. then one could could hold the kayfun upside down, unscrew the base and remove the deck. the only other thing that might be needed is a sort of channel that keeps the wicks in place. have never tried any of this personally but what do you guys think?
