Here in Sweden our banks (at least the bank I have and I know of others) let you use a secure e-card for shopping online. It creates a "fake" credit card with a CCV-number and you set a fixed amount to be attached to that "faked" card. So if anyone steals your information when shoping there is no money left (or a very small amount) on the "fake" card or it will be rejected because it has expired (short date on the card).

Only the bank itself knows that this "fake" card is connected to your actual account and your real VISA/MasterCard. Very practical when you shop online.

Talk to your bank. Suggest this kind of safety feature. Should not be so hard to implement on CC's.

I also got some fraudulent charges on my account, but luckily my credit card company froze the account and didn't allow any transactions to go through. I wondered how someone got a hold of my info. Thanks for the notice.

That being said, if merchants want to take a step in being more secure, they could set up Paypal payments. This way, no credit card info is being transferred through the web, Paypal acts as the step between. Also, they have very good consumer/merchant protection.

hmm.. I didn't know that. I guess paypal is selective when it comes to who they do business with.

"Both Paypal and Google Checkout deny e-cigs in their ToS and consider them "tobacco products". This has been an issue in the e-cig (USA/Canada) side of things for a long time. Doesn't seem to be an issue with overseas companies."

Yes, PayPal doesn't do domestic U.S. ecig stuff...you can use PP for overseas ecig purchases.
I really wish that we could use PP here - I prefer to use PayPal for all my purchases.

I go to my bank and get a prepaid Visa Check card--there is usually no more than $60 on the card at any time so if anyone gets a hold of the info there's not really anything there for them to take. It also makes me have to leave the house to get the card so I have to either really need or want the item I'm looking at.

i use my paypal MasterCard for most my ecig purchases and just have my paypal set up so i have to manually ad money from my bank when needed. when you use there CC card they dont care what you buy it will just withdraw from your PP balance.

My paypal mastercard is the one that got hit with fraud . Paypal reversed the charges quikly and issued me a new card

I was disgusted to read on their site that they blame some phantom "government regulations" for their unwillingness to facilitate e-cig transactions. I wonder what "regulations" would apply to eBay and PayPal that don't apply to credit card companies. Hmmm. I'm about to get selective on who I do business with, too.

I wonder what kind of regulations would apply to eBay and Paypal here that don't apply to foreign countries. I can buy ecig stuff from halfway around the World using Paypal but not if the originating transaction is in the US?
I mean...seriously...
I think it has everything to do with the demonization in the US of anything that gives the slightest appearance or resemblance of being tobacco related :p

Edit to add: Vaping isn't even tobacco related....nicotine sure, but that's it. I don't understand Paypal except I think they are afraid of a backlash of some sort.

Fortunately in the two years I've been buying online eCig products, I've never been hit once, but I do the following:

- Use FireFox with "NoScript" as previously suggested in this thread.
- Try to purchase from Vendors who are listed as suppliers in ECF, to ensure they have a legitimate form of Customer Service with accountability
- I NEVER purchase from an eCig Vendor that does not have HTTPS Encryption on their Site through a valid SSL Certificate. If they can't spend $15 a year on an SSL Cert, they don't get my business.

I've never bothered with Pre-Paid Cards or the like, but I shop smart online and *knock on wood* never had a problem.

I feel for you guys getting his with malicious activity, I see it every day in the hosting business and every time I see it, I lose a little more faith in humanity :(
