Guys. I spent $20 on an amplified indoor hd antenna. Said I'd get 5 channels. I get 23.
I spent $50 (same one now sells for 29.95) on a box from amazon.

What's the diff between a $50 box and a $50000 box? I have no idea since the little box does everything a pricey box can do, IMO. Kodi is a program. No matter what you put it on or on it... it's still kodi. And no matter what you do, there's a learning curve. Just like any computer program.

Just my opinyun n' i'm stuk wid it!

Perfect you'll probably find your speed is even higher then what you showed. You run the ethernet cable that it comes with I believe directly to the box. They are usually about 6' long but you can get a 10' at best buy maybe even longer the cable is considerably bigger then a normal phone wire but you should be ggreat on speed.

I agree with you Gary but you are sort of a techy guy. I'm not but I sure do love my box even if it was 150. Never have to do my own tweaking they do it all for me. I'm lazy. But if I were techy somewhat I would maybe try a different one but I'm happy with turning it on and it works. For me it's the right box, if I had yours I'd probably still be trying to get it to work right. But I know just what you mean there are $50 boxes out there with the same specs.
Darn I love these Screener streams. Almost as good as HD but you don't have to wait for it to come out on DVD.

@garyoa1 Your right there is no differences in the box the main difference for me is the support. thats what I feel like I paid for. Anytime I have a problem which is far and few between I can go to FB and get an answer almost immediately from a tech that programmed it and wrote the build, I think thats what they do with the code stuff.

Pat... kodi updates itself. You can set them not to update but why would you? Every time you start it you see this updated or that updated. The program is doing that.
Yeah I know that the addons update themselves, I get that. Lets just say I've had a fantastic experience with what I have. I know Kay could get the same box for 50 but for me it's the support that makes it easy.

I guess the support and the build that they did and the way they keep that updated, plus they made it so each time you use their updater they got the code in there so you get a fresh Kodi and keeps your settings and permissions and authorizations. You can even get Netflix in 4k with their particular tweak of the Netflix app. You still have to pay for the 4k subscription which I don't think is worth the $2 it costs but you can't do that except with the highest priced rokus or Chromecast. Just out of curiosity Gary have you been to their FB group and checked it out what other people think of it. It is a closed group but they'd let you in and ask Manny on there the difference. He is one of the main guys that writes the code for these. I'd be curious to hear what he's got to say.

Nope. Haven't bin there. Like I said, don't even use the boxes that much. Mine came with exodus and a couple others so most folks would be content with that. It's more or less plug n play. You can add more but works fine out of the box. Not saying your box isn't built with better electronics. No idea. But for me, the $29.95 box werx fur me.

@MikeE3 and anyone else who contributed to this discussion. I followed it at its beginning while it was still on the BP to learn what I could because hubby and I had already made the decision to cut the cord but needed to be better educated first.

Since then we learned a lot but I look forward to reading this thread through before we cut that cord. Thanks again

Make sure that is what you want to do Kay because he is right in some ways. I rarely use anything but Exodus or Specto. I have watched a few of the others but not on a regular basis. I don't know how long Exodus will remaing alive at this point but Specto is nearly as good. I have watched some live concerts on Maverick and some of those fight where they beat the hell out of each other till there is blood all over the ring. But maybe Gary is right IDK cause this is the only box I've ever used and plan on using for another 1 1/2 years cause I have a 2 year warranty. But I do enjoy the fact that I don't have to download any addons and install them but I know I can do it did it on my computer.

I am pretty sure now after having the SS and learning so much about how this stuff works I could get a cheaper box and set it up at least I think I could. But like they say you never know when something is going to go wrong with pirating stuff. And there is nothing SS can do about some things like when Exodus got hacked. Why anyone would do that to something that works so great for free. I can understand if it's for a million but not this. Everyone has to have a hobby I guess.

Hey do you guys have special streams you choose over others? I was always curious about that. I know that before I got RD I always went to one that said GVideo and most of the time they worked. Also without RD do your streams come up with the 1080 first then the HD or are they just scrambled all through.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....I'm so confused:facepalm:.........I am going back and reading from the beginning. If I cut the cable...I still have to pay $60 a month for internet...yes high speed but it's only $50 more for 2 dvr's and everything except hbo, showtime and the sorts.

I have a xbox one on one tv and a Rouku on the other. I belong to Netflix and that's it. Any recommendations? I am just starting to figure this out and I am leaning towards the (SS).
O, what does that stand for again? Thanks!
Roku and xbox one are good ones to have. the KODI will allow you to re-watch old favorites, and you can even look at your cable listings and see a movie or program you want. Then pull it up on KODI when you want to watch it.

Some of those 23 are going to be repeats, and other ones are going to be other-than=english. Still, I have an HD antenna myself and that's nice to have.
The difference between $50 and $50,000? about $49,050.
the more expensive boxes tend to have more memory, ultra-super-hd with 3D emmiters that will allow you to use your living room as a holodeck... etc. ;)
They more expensive ones will also come with tech support for what is pre-loaded.
mine cost $50 when I bought it, and it works just fine.

Exodus didn't get hacked. The programmer put some sort of sleeper program on it because he was feeling threatened. He since took it off and turned the development over to other members of the TV ADDONS team.
basically, other people were "forking" Exodus. That is to say, taking the code, changing the name and not actually modifying it very much except to say that they were developing it. Taking the credit for the Author's work. Author got mad and changed his code to over-load the system, apologized and retired from development.

For me...it seems that there's both good and not-so-good things with lots of products out there...what I'm interested in is the good support that SS offers. I realize that a product that costs more doesn't necessarily mean that it's better than others, but again, The support is what sold me on this particular one.
All of you know me well enough by now to know that I'll be needing the experts input and support for a long time:)
