idk what it is but it's such a small percentage and I first tried it at least a year ago and I'm still alive.
YIKES! That's not too reassuring.
But I have been finding I like it better, since it doesn't alter flavors. I used to be a menthol smoker - but with the pre-mixed menthols I've tried, they're nothing but straight menthol so far - so I've given up on vendor menthols. Maybe some koolada with a diluted menthol mix and tobacco flavoring might work.
It seems that with that supplier, it may still be a liquid they're selling. But at least I have a chemical name to try and find the crystals themselves now. Although, given that info I'm wondering if it could be 'poisonous' like nicotine - like the reason why regular consumers can't buy straight nicotine powder. (Which I certainly wouldn't want to, btw.) Maybe these crystals need to be treated the same way..??
Where's one of our chemists at?![]()
Yeah - that's true of the many warnings on things.
About the crystals -- I was referring to koolada crystals. All I seem to find is the crystals already dissolved in PG, not just the crystals themselves. Since I already have a ton of PG, I don't need more PG shipped to me. I could easily do the mixing myself. That's why I was wondering if it was similar to nicotine hazards in that respect.
Plus - I kinda like the mad-scientist aspect of doing the mixing myself. I already had a cheap milligram scale that I originally bought for loose-leaf tea (I was sampling many different teas).. And now I have an ultrasonic cleaner to do the mixing for me. I wanna play with mytoys- I mean, tools.![]()
The first DIY 5ml I just made this past week, I added a small drop of koolada to it, and it's more menthol-y at 1 drop/5ml than I would like. How can you do less than a drop? Half a drop? lol I understand making a larger sample of say 10ml, then trying 1 drop to see if that works. But, I would prefer to waste the smallest amount of juice I can.
At smaller quantities, does the koolada add an almost coconut-like smoothness to a fruit mix? I was hoping for something more like this than an actual menthol-like effect. Is there another product that produces that other than koolada?
It's good, you can use it in percentages for an "Icy" effect too, not just in tiny drips for faint/slight cooling like you mentioned.
1-2% = Icy
2-3% = Freezing Breath, lips starting to freeze
3-4.5% = Too much, I'm forzen!
5%+ = Cough/Hack (Too much to use for real)![]()
Oh and it was a 10ml batch.

How do you know Koolada's origin are crystals? Lol. I know what you mean about making your own liquids using crystals though. I've done it with E.M. and it's SO much cheaper. I haven't even used the one 8ML vial I bought over a year ago. Was like under $2 too.
Hmmmmmm.. You know.. Now I don't know. I swore I saw on the TPA site, but having just looked, it's not there. I swore I saw it somewhere though. Maybe on a forum. Or maybe I saw "10% PG" and just assumed it was crystals. I did some google searches and still couldn't find it as being crystals. hmmm..
<scratches head>
Well, at least I have a starting point to look for it at some point - menthyl methyl lactate. Whatever form it's in.
I just got a 15ml bottle from TPA. I was also going to get 4 more ounces from Heartland Vapes for only $11.25 when their 100-nic is back in stock. But if you still have a lot, maybe I'll wait on that and get some other flavor there instead. Not sure now. Now I'm curious as to how long the koolada keeps, cause I have a feeling I'm going to use it a lot at varying percentages in mixes.

That's also an awesome idea about doing a 10/15% (or maybe 50%?) dilution of it for adding in test batches and clearos.
Yeah.. I don't know either. Have you tried other people's Koolada-like additives? I saw some kind of "Artic-Ice" thing on ECIGX I believe... Was tempted to get it. I've tried Spearmint, Menthol and Creme de Menthe from TPA and Cool Mint from Capella's... Didn't care for any of them but I love mint.
I'm reading and following this thread with great interest. My daughters boy friend just took up vaping in hopes of getting off methol analogs and loves some of my mixes. He just wishes I could make some for him as a menthol. But he's concerned adding menthol will mask the flavor of my mixes. So koolada is the answer yes? A cool sensation without masking the tobacco flavors.

Menthol 5% (Crystals mixed 50/50)
