Going to be doing better from here on. DH went for his wellness and he has been diagnosed with diabetes. No more homemade bread until he can get it under control. Amazing that you don't realize how many carbs you are eating until you start reading the labels. We spent 2 hours in the store today trying to figure out what to buy.

I have found the best way is to shop on the perimeter of the store. Only go into the isle for must haves and never put a boxed/canned or bagged item if at all possible into your cart. It will happen from time to time, just keep an eye on what you place into the buggy. It was the doctor visit that did it for us too, Fudgey. If you take the reins into your own hands-you can do this. We lowered all DH's numbers dramatically in 3 months.
Triglycerides were 119, we took them to 39. Docs say <199
Cholesterol was 228, we took them to 150. Docs say <239
High Density Lipoprotein was 47, we took them to 58. Docs say >40
Low Density Lipoprotein was 157.2, we took them to 84.2. Docs say <159.9
Cholesterol/HDL was 4.85, is now 2.59 this is a ratio of the numbers.
AST are enzymes that show liver function…was 33, we took it to 24. Docs say somewhere between 8-48.
ALT is another enzyme that shows liver function…was 40, we took it to 23. Docs say somewhere between 7-55.
He was on the verge of getting completely out of control and we made the difference, you can to. Remove all flour/sugar/rice and pasta from the cupboard NOW. Once you have him back to as close to normal as possible, you can have those items in very small quantities.

ETA: My thoughts are with you while you work through this Fudgey❤

Thanks Hz....it's hard. I thought he told me his glucose level was at 200.....I found the papers it said 300!!!! They gave him some pills but they aren't helping that much. He also hasn't been eating pasta or breads or anything high carb and it was 182 this morning. It has been over 2 weeks. He goes back Thursday for a follow up, not sure what they will do. Mine was only 80 after the fast which is normal. One day at a time. :)

Here is a quick article to read over, it will give a few basics that will help you perhaps find out what he is eating that contributes to the levels. I'll see if I can find more for you.

Another one and it seems to be a good site for other info.

Thanks!! I was looking on the American Diabetes Association website but it doesn't seem very helpful. Kinda of disappointed with our clinic in that they didn't offer any information to him. It's through my work and the meds and everything are paid for. Going to our family physician would cost us a small fortune, but if we have to we will.

See we have a couple of new LGFers. Welcome to Let's Get Fit where you will find lots of motivation and support.
Good job guys. Remember if we can quit cigarettes we can get fit.

I have walked some days. Sorry once again that I have been quiet. I have problems communicating when I am stressed. My DH was dx'd with a tumor in his colon this week (playng the biopsy/tests waiting game now), so that along with grandson my stress meter is at the top.

You can do it Fudgey (((hugs)))

I'm glad Hz8 has some good references for you, cause it sounds like you didn't get it from the clinic. Hopefully diet and exercise will be enough to control your DH's blood sugar.

Those are great sites!!! Unfortunately he can't do any extreme exercising because of the nerve damage from a ruptured disk. He does stay busy and doesn't sit around all day and he is not overweight....that will help in the long run.

Hope you get the dust bunnies under control....LOL
