A local cop came in and befriended our staff. He does laser etchings as a side business. We gave him some dead Twists, a dead MVP, and a couple of DCT tanks and said have at thee. He came back with some outstanding laser engravings. He can do almost anything. So, I'm giving him about four DCT tanks to engrave the Bat symbol onto them for me! W00t!

Anybody else have their gear custom etched or engraved? I want to see your pics! I'll post mine when he gets done with them. Probably a week or so.

It's a big machine is all he said. Big is relative. It'll handle most shapes and sizes, however. He's looking into acid etching for metals, but evidently it's difficult to acquire the chemicals for that. If he does, though, the Provari and my other mods are on like Tron.

Tell your friend that Acid Etching is a PITA. And has Inherent Problems that Laser Marking Doesn't.

Chem Etching has it's Place. But if All he wants is to Mark, Lasers are Much Less Problematic.

This was done with a laser on my Silver Bullet (removed black powder coating to create the image)

Yeah... The Software the Drives the Beam has gotten Very Powerful.

It's kinda to the point on even Low End machines that if you Can Print in to a Windows Printer, you can Mark it with a Laser. Because Most Laser markers today use the Print Driver as the Marker Interface.

Also, where the Software has Gotten Much better is on Non-Flat Surfaces. To keep the X-Y Scaling Relatively True, the Makers Software Scales the Image to be Marked in the Non-Axial direction. Which Greatly Reduces the need for the Part to move.

Because if the Part needs to Moves in either X or Y, or needs to Rotate around a C Axis, the Cost of the Marking Machine goes Up Dramatically.
