I can say that protected 18650's do not fit in the Lava Tube, unless they are shorter than normal. The cap will not screw on. Protected 18650's are at least a couple of mm longer than 65mm. I'm using my LT with generic IMR batteries (BDL's which are flat tops) which were not supplied with it, as I just bought the body only, and they work fine.

I haven't heard anything on my ticket either.. :( but should be ok because I've been told Volcano is going to make it right by me.. Really ?? I have left messages with CS too.. Truth is if this were "electronicstix" jason would have fixed every issue by now and if it were "Good Prophets" Rob would have replaced all of our batteries along with enough included extra goodies to last 6 months !! Those are my "go to" people and they should be the ones who get credit for doing "right" by someone.. I am through with the Volcano forum because it's like a merry go round of dramatic irony, worse then a soap opera.. You know what's going to be asked and answered before it happens and people are eating it up with s*!t eating grins...

Alright, I forgot I brought a spare battery with me to work, so I went ahead and ripped the coating off.

This battery literally has no marking, 100% blank steel. There is no way to confirm this, one way or the other. I'll be throwing away all my batteries now, too much to risk. Be it their fault or not, that was my first and last purchase from Volcano.

Having a Provari and a Darwin in my collection, I was lucky enough not to have been involved with a Lava Tube Purchase. I was turned off to the way it was being sold, in a kit only, at first anyhow, thats my understanding. I do not generally buy my AW batteries from vendors Im not totally familiar with. I wonder what kind of great deal the vendor got on the price of those fake AWs? Usually when something like this happens its because there was some GREAT deal involved. It is to their credit though that they are making it know that there was a scam on those batteries.

Good luck with the exchange, or use of those fake AWs.

Your absolutely right on !! Volcano finally called me back and they couldn't even tell me how they were going about the refund and I have to wait until they can "verify". The process" !! Well thanks Volcano for doing right by me !!!

Has anyone taken the wrapper off of a real AW before? What are they like underneath the pretty red wrapper? Do they have markings or are they plain steel also? Just curious as to the difference. I do have 2 real AW's here, but they are brand, spanking new and I don't want to ruin one. Just really want to know what a real one has underneath it.

Can anyone actually recommend a "decent" battery that could be used with the LT,it seems that all the Vendors are supplying these Generic OEM type batteries (not the AW ones though),think I would rather just order the LT Body and source the Batteries myself !!! Or indeed are the European Vendors of the LT supplying a better battery ?

Super T Manufacturing

Clouds of Vapor

These are two I know *off the top of my head* which carry legit AW IMRs.

AW IMR is an excellent battery and the button top has been verified to work just fine in the LT. One is pictured below but you can find them many other places as well.

zoiDman, I already took care of this. I'm still at work and already disposed of the battery, as the company I work for has a bin for an offsite company to complete for us, so I wasn't able to snag any pictures.

This REALLY sucks, as I do not in any way feel safe with these batteries. It's like buying a gun out of the back of a trunk in an alley...

I hear you.

It sucks when you get something thru the mail and doesn't work or it isn't what it should be.

But have faith. Volcano is not a Fly By Night company.

I'm sure they will make good on what they have sold Everyone. Just have to be Patient. I'm sure the are De-Lu-g-ed(sp?) with calls and RMA service tickets right now.

I kinda feel sorry for them because I don't feel they brought this on themself's.

Yeah, I'll post a picture up as soon as I make it home, in about an hour or so.

What is the most irritating thing for me, is having to pay $11.99 for each battery ($2 more than other GENUINE resellers) which is what appears to be the higher premium for the brand and reliability, then be told on Volcano the following:

"We priced the batts using our current pricing model and from here on out, the price will still not change for the batt that we are currently offering. We determine our retail price on how we are charged and price our products accordingly." (see Post 8)

This, to me, says Volcano charged the higher premium for an AW battery despite whatever their actual cost is, then pushes blame on their retailer when Volcano received a complaint by AW. This just means covering your tracks before something was made public, in an effort to retain their loyalty, customers, and their "good-standing" logo.

I may be complete wrong and out of line, and if so, I'm sorry. This is just face-value to me and my experience.

Remember COV got whacked a handful of months back, the counterfeit Trustfire FlameJacket batteries. It can happen to well-regarded suppliers.

True but the Trustfire counterfeit batteries looked like the real thing. These batteries were said to be AW IMR and were flat top which had never been seen before by anyone. That alone should have brought up a question and some investigation before they were released to the public, you'd think anyway.

Sorry for the delay guys, had some nasty weather on the 70-mile drive home...

Anyways, here is the picture:

And here is the eerily similar Li-On unprotected battery previously posted in this thread:

This is why I am scared, shocked, and mad...
