Not necessarily.

Sometimes it’s not about Scamming a vendor to make money. Sometimes it is about Substituting something for what it should be to meet a delivery schedule.

The Lavatube is about the Hottest New VVPV to hit the Market in a Long time. And an after Christmas New Product Roll-Out is not good for Any Product. So it could be that the OEM got caught short and Substituted a Good Quality battery just to meet a delivery schedule.

It is a Very Viable concept in that when you are caught shipping the Knock-Off batteries (Notice I said “when” and Not “if”) you know you are going to catch flake for it. But if the batteries you swapped are Good Quality that the damage will be manageable. But if you swap out some Crappy batteries then things will probably get ugly Quick.

Makes it look like you’re defrauding someone for money verses just trying to meet a delivery schedule.

Not sure we will ever know what Exactly happened and I’m not saying substituting something is right. I just wanted to throw this out to think about.

Didn't think about it that way. Makes perfect sense.

Like I said, I'm not saying that I know what happened. Or that Substituting something is right.

But when an OEM gets caught, which they will, it looks a lot better if you swapped a decent Quality Battery for the right one verses some POS Battery just to make an Extra Buck or Two.

" Lava Tube Battery Scam" is it actually all Lavatube vendors supplying this Battery or is it just confined to 1 Vendor ??

It's not a battery issue as much as a branding issue, as far as I know Volcano was the only one claiming it was an AW IMR, I haven't checked many descriptions of others though. If they also were claiming AW then it would have been them as well.

I do know that 2SMOK which has their Branded 18650 and 18350 Version, ThunderVolt & Mini-ThunderVolt, has pulled the picture of what appeared to be an AW IMR Battery from their web site.

I also just got a reply from them asking if their 18350 kit included AW IMR Batteries and was to that No, it did not.

The fact (unless u have a gooseneck) that mods are only inches away from my face, I'd only mess with oem batteries although if I am not mistaken there were pictures of AW exploding here on the forums.

I think if you look hard enough, that you can find pics of ANY type of battery that has Exploded.

AW, Trustfire, Ultrafires, Generics, etc.

Personally, I'm not at all worried by this. Volcano is already doing right by their customers...and is currently one of the best companies I have bought from. I use MANY different vendors for my vaping needs and Volcano's CS, at least for me is top notch.

As far as these batteries that Volcano got Mislead with...well, I have true button top AW IMR 18650 batteries, and I did a side by testing in my LavaTube under load, with the battery I received by Volcano. Loaded voltages were negligible from 3 volts to 6 volts on a 3.0ohm atty, and the longevity of vaping time was equal. Would I rather get true AW batteries from Volcano. Sure. But, I'm not worried about them right now either.

Of course this is just my experience. Vape on...

So is anyone uncomfortable using these batteries? My LavaTube with batteries shipped the day the bulletin was put out. my batteries are listed as IMR but not AW branded. I am not sure what to do. THis is my first experience with ANY IMR batter. I have not used the AW or any other brand.

My only concern, considering they were touted as AW IMR, is that I've seen unprotected LiOn batteries passed off as IMR. Assuming Volcano has confirmed they are really IMR (as I would expect) they should be fine.

I did ask them some questions about the battery "problem", this is a quote from the reply, "We are still looking into the actual maker of the batteries. These are safe to use and are LiNM batteries. "

How would they be able to tell if they are LiNM / IMR?

They really would have to go by the markings or confirm with the maker.

I just posted the following in another thread but thought I'd post it here as well.

I just received mine yesterday and I'm loving it. However, I did get the fake battteries. When I first opened the package I thought it was odd that one of the AW stickers was sideways on the battery but thought...oh well, must just have been put on wrong going through the factory. I just got home tonight and wanted to say how much I think of the LavaTube and I see this issue about knockoff batteries.

I still am enjoying the product but now I'm wondering if the batteries are not what they're suppose to be then how do we know if the quality of the tube itself is what they claim as well. I really hope that it's just a battery issue and not the devise itself that we may have issues with in the short term. I'm sure that Volcano and Lavatubes.com were not aware but the bottom line is that I work hard for my money and a big part of my decision in making this purchase was that they were selling a brand name quality battery with the Tube.

Hopefully, everything will work out ok for those that have made the purchase.

Just to reiterate, I really am enjoying this new devise and so far I think it's worth what I've spent.

Honestly, counterfeiting products in China is nothing new. So, how does any supplier even know that they have genuine products or not? How do we know if we've ever even owned a non-counterfeit product? These batteries are so plain my kids could probably paint any battery red and throw a simple aw sticker on it and I probably couldn't tell if it was genuine or not. I've only had my LT for about 30 hours so I don't yet have an opinion of this battery. I have been hitting it hard all day and I still have 3.8v.

Love the LT and think Volcano is handling this mess extremely well. I'm a happy customer.
