It's not glue.

There is a metal casing under the wrap.

When metal is exposed to oxygen, it oxidizes.

That's all it is.

It's very very common with Sony VTCs.
It's not a problem.

Experienced vapers who regularly use Sony VTC battery's are very familiar with this.

I agree with all you've said here Bad Ninja, except the oxidation. When I took the wrapper off mine I found no evidence of that. If you or anyone else has found oxidation under a wrapper I would love to know about it. Specially if there were some of the dark spots which mine didn't have. My thought is there could be a different process going on there and it would be nice to know what it actually looks like.

I'm in charge of collecting all batteries with spots. Especially Samsung 25rs. They will blow your hands off. PM me for shipping instructions. Also, bottom fed atomizers are extremely dangerous. There is a hole in them. Send those as well. Rolex watches too...

Cut me in for half and I'll be an independent second opinion.

I wouldn't risk any injury to myself or messing up my mod on some -$20 batteries. Please dispose of them and get new ones.

Odds are.............I have been in DC electronics longer than many have been alive, who seem to think they know better.

This is NOT a battery defect. It is a Wrapping anomaly.

We are discussing one of the best batteries available to the Vapor by one of the best Battery producing companies in the market. Think and research first.
Remove the Wrap and there is -0- battery damage.
Wrap in a Thicker covering and never see a change again.

As was stated, I would get some new wrapping from a hardware store or Ebay etc, remove current wrapping/inspect then make an informed decision or repost new pics for peoples to look at. While on the subject, I always wondered why Sony makes such a great battery yet uses such a garbage wrapping. My purple Efest's had better wrappings/guards.

We promote battery safety here at ECF. Some of you have decided to promote battery stupidity. Do you guys throw away your mods when the paint chips off the corners? Some pretty knowledgeable people have said they've researched this same problem. Some batteries (Sony) are highly susceptible to some slight discoloration in the wrapper. We've seen this because we've been using these batteries for a long time. Throw em away if you want to. It's your money.....but its not a sign of a battery on the verge of venting.

Thanks for this post. I just got two Sony Vtc4s from My Freedom Smokes in the mail today, along with a Nitecore D2 charger. I have never owned a replaceable battery mod before, (I won one of the Cloupors) and I thought that I did my homework and made informed choices for both safety and my vaping style, but I didn't know about this potentially happening. Being a newbie to this I would probably have hit the panic button and disposed of the batteries. Good to know what it is, what to look for, and how to deal with it.

Honestly, I would unwrap them and see if they're actually damaged first. I've seen the same with a lot of Sonys and have a pair also this happened to. There was nothing wrong with them. Rewrapped and still in use many months later.

AFAICR: The casing is stainless steel - its highly unlikely to have corroded through. Mechanical damage would most likely be easy to see.

Any leakage is almost certainly from the seal - if that's compromised it could cease to separate the + button from the minus case. If that shorts on a fully charged cell - that's a lot of energy to let go all at once!

It's not "leakage", besides it is mostly found on the negative end of the battery.
