Let's talk hardware

I like the cotton but you have to change it out every couple of tanks. I got lazy and paid the price yesterday...bad vape day:D It is easy enough to do, just need to get in the habit.

I hate it when that happens! I'll say oh I can get one more tank before I need to change and then it all goes downhill. I'm there now. I guess I need to go make a coil.

I appreciate those organic cotton balls and yarn Iowa Gal. I really do. I owe you. I just boiled them and talk about feeling silly! Boiling cotton! bwahahaha And now the yarn is strung up on a hanger and the cotton balls on the counter to dry. Every time I use either I get a slight cough so maybe this will help. Thanks for that advice!

Cotton balls are VERY easy to use....but I also like silica as well.

I need to make a microcoil....I really do. It looks easy enough.

RJ I've been using the micro coils..they probably aren't as pretty as some but do like them and heck wire is cheap so if I screw one up I just toss it. If you feel like the cotton balls aren't drying out completely....stick them in the microwave for 30 seconds or so. I just boiled up a little of both and keep them in a baggie, ready to rock and roll. I probably won't have to boil again until Christmas time:laugh:

So I just made my first microcoil. I don't think all the sides touch but they are close. I'm only getting 2.8 ohms with 30 gauge wire at about I think 8 wraps. I used a miniature screw driver but maybe the diameter is too big? Maybe I need more wraps? I got it on my Phoenix. Beautiful coil though. I'm quite proud of myself. I like microcoiling! I need to watch some videos though on something to hold it in place so I can torch it. I just put it on my Phoenix and fired it off and got it hot and squeezed it together with some tweezers but the Phoenix doesn't leave much room for too many more wraps doing it that way. That was fun! I'm using organic cotton. It's making some vapor...but I just wanted to get it closer to say 1.5 ohms.

Fun!

I use 28g around a 2mm drill bit, 9 or 10 wraps comes out around 1.1 - 1.3 ohm

I use needle nose pliers to squeeze the coil together while I torch it :)

Hey guys. People were talking about drip shields before. Was at EmpireMods today and took a photo of what they have in stock in the showroom. If there was something you see, PM me and I'll see if we can come to some kind of arrangement for shipping :)

How freaking cool is that! I love those matching shields and drip tips on the left but they look like beauty shields and not drip shields. But oh so pretty!!! (Yes I downloaded the pic so I could zoom....LOL!!!!) I have my eye on the red and purple drips shield on the last full column all the way to the right. But that would mean I would have to buy matching K100s. Thank you so much Neo for showing us that. How lucky are you!! But since our gracious Iowa Gal sent me her black one, I think I'm good for now. But again, thank you!!!!!

How sweet is THAT?!?!?!? We got us a good one with Neo. :)

Thanks for the kind words =D

I figure that since EM is so close and people like the shields, it's only fair that I let you guys know that certain things are in stock. Lots of times they move things quickly, so they don't even make it onto the site. If anyone else sees something, just let me know. They have tons of glass drip tips too. Keith (the owner) told me that the last vape convention in virginia a week or two ago, he moved about 140 of them within the first few hours He was completely sold out. Still has more in the shop though, I'll see if I can snag a few pics of them this week if anyone is interested =D

RJ, I thought Auburn was orange not red?

:D

Actually, I have no clue what a drip shield does. I feel remiss in my vaping knowledge. I use a HH357 for dripping (when not using a RBA) and I just have a tissue around when it dribbles out the bottom. Does a shield stop that?

Learn me, please?

Auburn sucks! That's what color they are..........:D

We looked horrible tonight...I don't want to talk about it. :glare: But yay we won!

Dripping is gonna be messy no matter how you look at it. When I drip I keep a tissue handy. But yes, drip shields keep most of the juice from going all the way down into the battery connections and the side of the mod using O-rings. Also, when the juice that has leaked out of the atty is just sitting there hanging out in the drip shield it is possible to suck it back up into the atty. Less mess, less waste. These Empire drip shields also make the K100s look awesome cause they are color coordinated. I never used a drip shield until I got a K100 (thanks again Iowa Gal!). So it serves a purpose as well as making your mod look pretty/sharp. Some say the air holes are located where it cools down the vape...but I don't care anything about a cool vape and I've never noticed a difference. I've dripped for over a year and just now fell in love with drip shields.

Woot! Kayfun Lite Plus came today. Built a 28g 11 wrap microcoil on a 1/16" drill bit, used some cotton ball as a wick. Came out to 1.3 - 1.4 ohms. Playing with the variable air flow is fun.

Only running 3.4 volts and it is hitting unbelievably good. Not any improvement to me going up to 3.6v and at 3.8v the cotton isn't wicking fast enough. Breaking it in with N.E.T Black Cherry (sampling). I think this device will be destined for Huntsman though.

You all weren't kidding about these Kayfun things. :vapor:

Bappo, Huntsman is very nice in the KFL indeed. I think you'll like it. After this tank of Heavenly Army, which is also real good, I've been wanting to throw some Black Cherry in there too. N.E.T. Bombay in the KFMini, has been kicking .... all weekend!

BTW - Where did you order yours from? I need to get another just for non-tobaccos. :p
Never mind, just saw your post on that - I got mine there too, but got the mini from SvoёMesto's web site.

In Search Of The Perfect MicroCoil - eight wraps on a larger finishing nail (I really do need to find my dial calipers) gets me 1.4 ohms. I'm thinking a nine wrap should get me in that 1.5- 1.7 range I've been seeking. Those 0.8- 1.1 ohm coils really put out vapor, but I noticed it seemed like I was loosing some of the flavor to produce vapor. And the 2.2+ ohm coils have a sweet flavor, but on my little mini's it's fire (pause) then vape. I really do believe if and when I can get consistent at 1.5 to 1.7 on my ohms I'll be right where I want to be.

Not that there's anything wrong with N.E.T. Coventry @ 1.4 ohm and bamboo wicking, mind you :vapor:

History lesson: The drip shields were originally created for the 901 atomizers. They performed way better than the 510's and had a side hole for the air intake, about 1/2 inch up from the bottom of the atomizer. While they were awesome for flavour, the downside was that juice leaked out the side of the atty. Enter the drip shield!

The air intake on the drip shield is along the side too, but is located closer to the top of the shield. This allowed the 901 atty to sit inside the drip shield and it contained any extra juice that you may have dripped. When you gave it a quick dry hit, it would suck the juice back into the 901.

Since the 510 atties are open from the bottom, the method of usage was adapted and the way to use it with the drip shield was to deploy a sealed 510 - 510 extension at the bottom of your 510 atomizer. The benefit to doing this was two-fold. One, it brought the 510's bottom higher inside the drip shield and helped to contain any juice leaks, and two, it also made the shorter 510 the same length as the 901 atomizer which meant you could actually use it with the drip shield.

It was instrumental to dripping with a 510 atomizer and cartomizers. I used to use one in my Reo Grand too, for those times when I was a little too heavy handed with my squonking.
