yup thats the one... now if I can reproduce it... Im starting to get some oddish flavors in the 3.1 after 7.5 tanks of Legend....
2 mm nine wraps of 30ga , I annealed the wire first , clamped it with hemo's and used cigarette lighter till it glowed , dry fired and compressed it nice and tight .

You pulled that setup out of the R91% ? That was the result of 8 or 9 builds in that atty before settling on that one for best results , it's not the same coil I was using but it's identical to the winner of that trial , I'm using the same setup in both 3.1's too .

Can you give us some specs on your coil, Retic; wire gauge, diameter, # of wraps, etc.?
Also, how do you hang your wicks? (A picture is worth a thousand words.)
If you posted before I may have missed it...

I'm gonna wrap a couple 30g microcoils in a slightly bigger diameter; one at 7/64" and another at ⅛" just to see how they compare resistance wise and whether I can get that 3mm silica inside or around one of 'em.

My early stock of HHV is coming up on a year now and I want to start using the KFMini in dripper mode to test them regularly. I'm thinking silica would do well as I can just rinse and dry burn through a bunch of flavors.

Have to vape the DF out of it first though... :D

I cut the wicks a little longer, so there's more on the deck (as Leo suggested). I also just used 3 of the 4 strands of P&C. This is on the KFM, same 2mm coil. I left the KFL as is for now. No sense in screwing up both tanks at once.

One thought I had was the consistency of the P&C yarn you are using. Is it the same thickness throughout the package? Is it the same wickability throughout? Etc... Unlike Kanthal wire, I suspect there is not a whole lot of QC concerning the yarn thickness consistency. Is it possible you were getting thicker yarn on these latest wick jobs and it was getting pinched? Possible.

I re-wicked again this morning (off for ortho appointment) again with all 4 strands. Left wicks long enough to lay along the deck (but not get pinched in the threading) and kept them twisted up. They tend to untwist as I was manipulating them, and I didn't think it mattered. (noticed this on Dusty's recent picture of his wick/coil) So far so good, no priming. :)

Bridge, I use silica. It looks like a mophead. I just wet it down with juice and stuff it down the sides. I pay no mind. I just cram it down there.

Well, maybe it's the length of wicks then. I wasn't sure if the twisting really mattered. It's working tho, and that does matter.;)

I posted the specs probably while you were typing this , if I get by BK's sometime for a beer drinking coil wrapping session I'll have BK post pics , I have a camera but the browser on this playstation is very limited , BK was more concerned about the amount of cotton used than the actual coil itself although I can make them a lot better now than 3 months ago , that R91% clone was a picky PITA compared to the 3.1's but I wasn't gonna go down without fight .

I picked up a skein of the P & C yarn but I haven't gotten around to using it , the organic cottonballs are working so well for me that I'm reluctant to fix what ain't broke .

My .... retentiveness would have me measuring and weighing those cotton ball pieces...
Bridget the cotton balls are actually sheets of cotton rolled into a ball , you can unroll them and it gives you a sheet of cotton about two inches across , at that point you can measure and cut it , I unroll it and it helps me stay consistent in the amount I use .

I have not come across that here. I do have around 300 cotton balls sitting in a bag on my shelf though, right beside two 80m skeins of yarn.

Try unrolling a couple Dusty , I'm sure they're probably all made that way , it enables them to make the balls all the same size , you might have to tear it a little to start unrolling them .

I've done that, but they are not of a consistent thickness, and they shred unevenly.. drives me nuts!!

I'm on Bridgets team about cotton yarn. :D

HMMMM. could be a difference in manufacturers , the ones I use are pretty consistent in thickness and I use a scissors to cut it with , I don't shred it but to each their own , I'll try the cotton yarn when I'm in the mood to experiment .

I finally had to change the wick in the HC3.1 tonite... it lasted thru 8 full tanks of Legend at an avg Wattage of 9.5.
I was expecting some dark monster of tarred tenticles reaching upwards oozing a foul goo from its ends, But to my suprise, the cotton was not even as dark as a yard egg. Altho the coil was about 3 times thicker due to carbon build up....
I removed the cotton burned off the coil and used a dental pick to remove the stuff that didnt "blow" off. Replaced the cotton, primed it up, put on the chimney tube/cap and the tank sleeve, filled it up and capped it. Working just as good as when I got it going the first time...
looks like my supply of kanthal and cotton is going to last me 7 yrs instead of the projected 6 months...

Awesome.. cotton works better when it can soak, rather than wick, if that makes any sense... at least that I've found. I have it laying across the whole deck and I only occasionally have to prime it, and then only when I'm chain vaping.

Good to see it's working though.
