Lexington vape Meet becomes battleground
I can only hope this becomes a battleground.
Because this is a battle we will win, and could be a seminal moment in harm reduction.

What we really need is a battleground.
A chance to get a spotlight shined on our cause.
A chance for truth to be told, and people to listen.

They hide in the shadows, and spew their lies.
I would love for Ellen Hahn to come out into the light.

She could be the poster child for the death of Big Pharma, and their mission to kill smokers.

Note: If you decide to use this, give the prize to Petrodus. it was his idea.

Ellen Hahn Says: E-cigarettes use a heating element to vaporize nicotine “and other substances” (deceptively implying that their major use is to deliver illicit substances.)
The Truth: E-cigarette liquid consists mainly of propylene glycol or glycerin, water, and food-grade flavorings (all of which are considered safe by the FDA), and may contain a small amount of pharmaceutical grade nicotine.

Ellen Hahn Says: Cartridges may contain up to 500 mg of nicotine (approximately 10 times lethal dose.)
The Truth: Cartridges range in size from 0.5 to 2 mL, with nicotine content in the liquid averaging 1.8%. German researchers found a maximum concentration of 0.007 mg/m3 of nicotine in the vapor--71 times less hazardous than the OSHA PEL safety limit.

Ellen Hahn Says: E-cigarettes are not a proven cessation aid.
The Truth: E-cigarettes are not intended to serve as a nicotine cessation aid; however they work extremely well as a way to escape from inhaling smoke. Success rates range from 20% for smokers who did not intend to quit up to 80% for smokers who wanted to stop inhaling smoke and sought advice and support from other e-cigarette users.

Ellen Hahn Says: Using e-cigarettes in smoke-free areas may create smoking ban enforcement problems.
The Truth: Vapor doesn’t look like smoke, smell like smoke, or act like smoke. Increasingly, e-cigarette consumers are opting for devices that cannot be mistaken for a combustible cigarette.

Ellen Hahn Says: E-cigarettes may encourage youth to experiment and become addicted.
The Truth: Researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University determined that e-cigarettes have a low abuse potential—possibly because each puff of vapor delivers a fraction of the nicotine found in a puff of smoke.

Elaine, I still like my idea of a closed caged "death match". You coulda been the champion! The biggest hit in Kentucky since Muhammad Ali.

Totally OT! Writing this and watching eight women rowing their boat for Olympic gold. World class athletes one and all. In the background there must be a hundred bicyclists riding along watching the race. Nothing particularly athletic about their effort, but they had no problem getting to the finish line at the same time.

I can't get the letter to open now, but someone might want to find an email address for the hotel and send them this:

A Kentucky nurse’s crusade against e-cigs: A celebration of junk science > Facts & Fears > ACSH

Actually, lets leave the hotel alone. I have met with the management. We came to a reasonable understanding out of mutual respect. The GM made it clear that all the fuss and controversy is not helping. She isn't going to pull the plug on us. She just asked for us to be respectful to her staff and facility, and they will do the same for us.

She is not scared of Ellen Hahn. She knows what is legal and what is not. And she was pretty clear that she wasn't interested in an education on Ecigs.

At this point, with the meet tomorrow, let's let sleeping dogs lie and just have a great event, with a great turnout. That will be the best way to stick it to Ellen Hahn.

BTW Elaine, I'm printing that post off and hanging it up! That's perfect! Thanks!

What scares the heck out of those opposed to e-cigarettes
is a face-to-face discussion with those who know the truth.

Those opposed to e-cigs prefer to publish...then run and hide.
Or only be interviewed IF the truth is ridiculed or demonized.

Wouldn't ya just love to see a debate with (fill in the blank)
where our side's opening response to their lies would be ...

"Obviously, your a recent visitor to our planet and not aware
of the truth about e-cigarettes."
:p

I have done a lot of television and especially news stories.. Everyone just remember that the media loves to twist the truth and cause drama.. If something DOES happen then EVERYONE needs to keep thier emotions in check, THINK before they make any statements, and at all costs AVOID directly attacking the opposition. Do not be unruly, and dont say things that can be edited down to a "sound bite" that contradicts your message. This could be just as potentially damaging to the cause as it could be helpful. Keep any comments factual and disconnected from opinions and emotions. A good plan rather than posters of her in an manner that could be taken as demeaning would be to make a poster of facts about ecigs and even a chart comparing thier content to real cigs. News crews LOVE to zoom in on such informational displays to show in thier reports and this would be far more helpful. You want to avoid anything that makes the movement look like a "bunch of trouble making crackpots". We all have seen the organizations with good intentions look bad due to a few overzealous members and statements that were not fully thought through.
I know I am coming into this late, but the charts and posters stating facts make for good visuals and many times make it to the images associated with the story once posted online. These are good things to get out there for the public and FAR better than "this woman is evil" posters.. Just look at how everyone views the ridiculous campagin statements the politicians put out..

Another cool thing would be a slideshow highlighting a lot of the "tickers" in members signatures!!! Just screen shots rotating through that gives people a good visual of just how many cigarettes have NOT been smoked due to these devices.. These add up to hundreds of thousands of cigarettes that have not polluted the air they breathe!!! I dont think people are fully realizing the impact ecigs have had on their day to day lives without them even noticing!
If you TRULY hate being around tobacco smoke then you are a fan of Ecigs whether you realize or not. Nothing in history has had such an effect in lowering the amount of secondhand smoke in our day to day lives as the Ecig has. :2cool:

Good points cdalio. The sign I posted earlier was more or less me venting on a sympathetic forum. The actual donation box is plain and simply states what it's for. Other signs are informational as to what we are doing, why we are doing it, and I do have a refutation of Ellen Hahn's facts that is basically a rework of vocalek's post.
