The dual coils are not a good option at lower voltage no matter what you are using

That is a pretty good rule of thumb with 3.7v mods, especially the 2.5 amp cut-off devices like the Lavatube style. I have actually had pretty good experience with running LR dual coils on them. Not optimal, but they do work.

Be advised that any of these style mods that are mentioned will not run the voltage you set it at with most attys and cartos out there. It's a 'safety feature', and why I decided to take the plunge and get a ProVari for my at home device.
