I skimmed through most of the posts, and saw you were not really interested in box mods, but you should really look at the Vapor Shark rDNA30, DNA30 if you want something really small and under budget, or rDNA40 (what I have) if you want to spend a little more for the latest tech. All 3 are quality devices and you can get shark skins to protect them

The Rocket you mentioned earlier is a mech, you already said you don't want a mech so scratch that off.

As for the 134, I suppose it would work for what you need - but then again about 500 different mods will work for what you need. You've had a lot of good suggestions and advice in this thread, some good links and some mentions that require further research.

As for taking it seriously, it's hard when you keep moving the goal posts and are quite dismissive to those helping.

Definitely a DNA 30. I STRONGLY recommend the Hana Modz DNA 30. I have a clone and it's absolutely wonderful. The buttons are clicky and smooth as butter, it's extremely durable, always fires up right away, has plenty of helpful features, and it's gorgeous. It feels so good in your hand, and it's tiny as well! If you're left handed, you can even flip the screen. I LOVE mine, and recommend it to anyone. The DNA 40 or other higher-wattage devices are pointless unless you want to run your super sub-ohm builds, which defeats the purpose of a regulated mod anyway (less battery life & regulation), in my opinion.

So what exactly is a mech with a kick? I like having variable wattage but worry if it's not on a screen it may not "actually be set" to what the dial says also everyone is all DNA20 and such... I just don't want to jump from a lava tube 2.5 to something.. Worse you know?

A mech with a kick means you buy a mech, and you buy a kick module for it.
You set the kick with a screwdriver.
You put in the battery and the kick module.
And there you go; you basically have a regulated mod, but no screen.

Choice of kick module is important; some of them don't have reverse battery protection.
You won't see your battery charge, but when the battery gets too low the kick module cuts off anyways, so that's your battery indicator.
You get short circuit protection.

You can get a vv kick or a vw kick; I don't think there's any vv/vw kick.

Hmm, why do you think the Smoktech Rocket is a mech? I has a variable wattage and voltage switch, 5 settings for each up to 15 watts and or 6 volts, short protection. It does not however have a menu screen on it. 510/Ego connections. Takes only 18650 batteries. Not sure tho if it has reverse battery protection.

The original Rocket mod is a mech that has been around for a few years. rocket.jpg

Didn't know Smok had come out with a VV/VW version and called it the same name. Thanks.

I may very well end up with a rocket or 134 just cause of the durability and build of the two. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and recommendations.

The 134 has no screen.

In terms of durability two critical things to look at are:
- the 510 thread arrangement, notably the center pin and centerpin insulator
- buttons or other moving parts (the 134 has a rotation ring to adjust the watts.)

You couldn't be more wrong regarding the DNA 40. The temperature protection design is for safety above all else. It is likely out of the range the OP wants to spend anyway, but he should definitely consider it if he is willing to spend around $200.

I apologize, I didn't mean to say DNA 40 devices were pointless unless used with very sub-ohm builds. DNA 40 devices are great for a wide-range of things, but the point I was trying to make is that VERY high-wattage devices (ie. the Gi2 or other 100+ watt devices) are not worth the money unless you want to run extremely sub-ohm builds, which decrease battery life dramatically and make a regulated device not worth investing in, in my opinion.

Not so much. 1 ohm at 40 watts is 6.5 volts. Not a shabby vape at all. To get the same performance out of a mech, I'd probably be around .6 or so.
