I have a RIPPING nicotine buzz right now from my PV. Maybe it's time to lay off the vapor for a few minutes. :p

Yes, as everyone has said, ecigs/personal vaporizers/PVs/vaping is an excellent alternative source of nicotine. There is quality equipment at affordable prices that will deliver as much nicotine as you can handle. Your first criterion appears to be big vapor production. If this is the case, you might want to skip straight to a high-voltage device. These can be very expensive, though. I recently purchased a 5 volt PV for well over $100. The above suggestions for e-cig starter kits are very good. You may want to go this route as a trial to see if you, indeed, like vaping. If so, you can always enjoy your first device while you research/learn/save for a nicer, long-term device.

I'm glad the advertisement caught your eye. I hope you have as good of an experience with vaping as I have.

I smoked for decades, 1.5 to 2 PAD, and switched immediately to ecigs. It takes a bit of experimentation to find juice you love. And most people buy a second model by the end of their first month (either looking for something stronger or with longer charge or just curious) so keep that in mind - if you can't choose between two you will probably own both eventually.

What not to do - do not buy any "name" model unless you know what model it really is, how much it should cost, whether it is a good and compatible model, and where else you can buy supplies and parts. There is a whole seedy upper layer of bs rebranders that lie about being the best, about how long a cart lasts and how long a battery charge lasts.

Out of curiosity, how much did you smoke? You referred to yourself as a heavy smoker, yet list your monthly budget as $70, not sure on prices in NC but in VA you'd be lucky to get 3 cartons of off brands at a discount place for that, putting you at roughly a pack a day. Unless you roll your own then that money stretches a bit more.

As far a recommendations, there's quite a few starter kits in the $30-40 dollar range (I'd go 510 size, and the E-power might be a good option too) that will give you a nice set up. Another $25 will get you a 5 pack of cartos and a variety of juices to start with.

Check out this link for some basic explanations on sizes and options as well as terminology: Best E-Cigarette for a New User

As far as monthly expenditure goes, well that varies. You might spend a little more at first trying to find the juices you really like. I always liken juice buying to ordering pizza, every place does it slightly different and what is awesome from one place may not be to you liking from another. After that, you could spend as low at $30 a month (juice and replacement cartos if you don't like cleaning them) or as much as $100 in a month if you wanted to pick up extra batteries, try out different juices and/or cartos. Then you always run the risk of developing "next great thing" itis, where you really love vaping and just have to try out the next gen mod that's coming out.

Either way it's still cheaper than forking over $80,000 for an 18 week treatment of Erbitux that will only prolong your life with lung cancer, not actually cure it.

I smoke almost a pack a day, or almost 2 cartons a month. I buy cheap Pall Mall menthols at 34 dollars a carton to keep my budget at around 70 bucks a month. However I consider myself a heavy smoker based on the frequency I smoke. In order to make my cigerettes last I buy 100s and usually smoke half at a time.

So in a given day I probably smoke an average of only 18 cigarettes, but I smoke over 30 times a day to consume those 18 cigs.

You mentioned cartomizers briefly, and Id Im leaning toward using them if the vapor production is sufficient, and they last long enough to be economical. What's been your experience with them?

mickeybob00

i definitely agree with the riva 510 suggestion, the only other thing i would recommend checking out as an add on, beside e juice of course, is a eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Flat-Tip from mad vapes. it is big, but it allows even a fairly heavy vaper to only fill up once a day, and as far as th and vaper level, it is nice. here is a link, and they really are fairly cheap at 2.49 a piece, they should last about 3 weeks maybe more eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Flat-Tip

I like the look of this Cartomizer, it sounds like it could produce more vapor. Does it stay consistent throughout those 3 weeks? I figure if it gives strong hits for 3 days or more with consistant use Id be happy.

..........................................................................................................

Thanks everyone for the quick replies, After I get some sleep tonight I plan to do more research on the products mentioned here so that my first experience with an E-Cig is a good one. At least I'm hoping

I guess I'm part of "most people", just ordered an ePower, already enjoying my Go-Go.

Hey Mike! Welcome to the ECF and congrats on wanting to vape! I smoked for 21 years at a pack per day and I quit smoking cigarettes within 3 days. Here's my two cents for what it's worth. Get a big battery mod. I started with a slim cig style set-up and outgrew it in two weeks. I got an e-go and outgrew that in two weeks. I got a mod and I'm happy. Here's what I suggest.

1. Get a Sliver Bullet ($85): AltSmoke.com | Personal Vaporizers | Electronic Cigarette | Ecigs | | Silver Bullet | Best electronic cigarettes| Cigarettes Electronic| Cigarette Electronic Cigarette| Best Electronic Cigarettes | Electronic Cigarettes
2. Two 3.7 volt 18650 AW batteries (for the Silver Bullet): RTDVAPOR.com
3. One Ultrafire WF-188 Charger: RTDVAPOR.com
4. Two 4.8 volt NiMH Batteries and the 4.8 volt charger (for the Silver Bullet): NiMH Batteries and Chargers
5. One E-Power Starter Kit (for on the go vaping): E-Power Replacable Battery kit!
6. Juice and 1.5 ohm Dual Coil Cartomizers (for both the Silver Bullet and E-Power; get at least 6 cartomizers): Alien Visions E-Juice

It's a good bit of up-front cost, but it will get you're new life vaping off on the perfect foot and keep you satisfied for a long time.

cigs.

Honestly I love cartos, fill up a 2-3 in the morning and I'm good through work (I'm a moderate daytime vapor and chain vape when I get home.) They're technically disposable with an average life span of 2 weeks or so, however you can clean them to extend the life. Cleaning's easy, although it can take some time, especially the drying end of it, but there's tons of video guides to cleaning cartos.

Currently I'm using the Boge SR's but have the new CCV Resurrectors on their way for my new DIY mod, can't wait to try them out. I typically go with an 80/20 PG/VG blend, good throat hit, especially with cinnamon or mint infused juices, and decent vapor...its not a steam room, but its good.

While I strongly recommend cartos for your daily use, I'll agree with the advice to grab an atomizer and drip tip for testing new juices. Speaking of juices don't expect to find one that tastes like a cigarette, burning paper, plants, and carpet glue is a unique flavor. At best you'll find one similar to what a fresh deck of smokes smells like when you open the pack. That said, I'm partial to the coffee's and cocoas out there, nothing too sweet for most of the day, with a nice desserty finisher in the evening.

The cheaper option is the E-Power kit ($40), some juice (Alien Visions is a little pricy but well worth it), and 1.5 ohm dual coil cartomizers ($2 each). The E-Power kit has two batteries and a charger with it.

For some good juice that's priced really good is Bounty Hunter from Nitelite Vapor. 30mls for $10 or 120mls for $40. https://www.nitelitevapor.us/shop/c...ldiLBATEveOO401guTjD6jiFWqXs&shop_param=cid=&

The upkeep on the E-Power will be low. Just some batteries every so often (they're cheap) and cartomizers (the clear ones clean really easy. Just take off the soft cap and let hot tap water run through them for a few mins.)

Maybe PV's don't work. Maybe I quit my 52 years of well into the third pack a day analog habit just cause I wanted to. In a pigs eye. Hell, I had a patch on each arm and still smoked analogs. I can honestly say I haven't smoked an analog for more than 7 months. Admittedly, I did both while working my way outta analogs. I couldn't do it with what I call the "toys". It took my getting a ProVari for me to really quit. Many do it with all manor of PV's. More power to um. I used Riva's/eGo's till I was blue in the face. I hated carrying and changing batts all day long. Most of what I use now wasn't even thought of when I started to quit. I hate messing with stuff. I require a PV with enough batt, and a liquid container that will last me 9 hours, to/from and while at work. Lots of people have good success with other gear. But, that's what worked for me. JMHO

Good luck with your quit. . .no matter how you do it.

Cheers,
otrpu

First, that study is hogwash. They do deliver nicotine. What they don't do is freebase it. You know that feeling when you haven't had a cigarette in a long time and you take one hit and you can feel it coursing through you. They don't do that. Google freebasing nicotine for more info.

As for the device you should get. I'd recommend a maxi roughstack from madvapes. You'll need to get batteries and a charger. Madvapes has both. Go with 18650s to start. You need at least two. Along with that get some dual coil cartos. You'll need some juice as well.

If you find that it's not doing it for you, you can go with a more powerful battery configuration with that device.

I will warn you. Nicotine is the primary substance in cigarettes that you are addicted to but, it's not the only substance. There is still a significant adjustment but, this is the best method I've found.

E-Power from madvapes.com and also get a pass thru so you can vape 5v and get 18 mg to 24mg juice to start. you will get the hit you are looking for. good luck you can do it

I agree with the E-Power suggestion as a better alternative to the eGo or Riva. Same model category but much more cost effective since the batteries only cost $4-$5 instead of $20 for the ego/Riva batteries and the batteries last 5 times longer. I also agree starting with 24mg nicotine strength liquid and adjusting up or down from there:

There are a lot of good options out there. I was a three pack a day smoker for over thirty years and have been analog free for eight months now. The type of device you get is important if you are a heavy smoker. Stay away from the small 510 devices as they probably won't suit your needs. I would go with the ego, ego-T, KGO, or the e-power. There are a lot of great companies who are very relaible who sell there. Madvapes, Cignot, Liberty Flights, a new company Dark City Vapors, Good Prophets. I have dealt with all of these companies and have nothing but good things to say about them. Another thing toconsider is the e-liquid that you get. I would sugest that you get either 18mg or 24 mg to start out with and you can ease down later. There are quite a few companies that sell good e-liquids and a large variety. There is a Master Code List on the forum that gives a list of all suppliers and coupon codes that will save you money on your purchases

After a little looking around at Madvapes, and some good tips from this forum, I think I found a couple things I want to start with. However I have some questions about these products.

Here's what I'm looking into...

eGo

There are three starter kits on this page, and I havent settled on one yet but I like the look of the one that comes with the dual coil cartomizers

Im also looking at the, eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer as something to replace lower quality cartos that come with a kit if I dont get the kit that comes with them.

eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Flat-Tip

Ive decided I probably want a 2 piece cartomizer setup for convenience and this carto looks solid. Now I need to build a solid device around it using one of the ego devices in the first link, or possibly something else. I also like the sound of the E-power kit but the madvapes website says it doesn't fit the dual coil cartomizer.

The three ego kits at madvapes are...

MadVapes 510 Ego Kit with Carrying Case
eGo Carto Kit With Carrying Case
MadVapes 510 Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Kit

One big concern I have is that I'm a little confused about the size, power, and compatibility of the batteries on the models above. Are the 510 Egos in the above list smaller, or have less power than other Ego models? Also, are low resistance components better? Are they compatible with the Ego models above? This websites tutorial says....

"the eGo has a larger than normal battery, and the LR low resistance fittings help to create more usable 'power' - more vapor and stronger TH or throat hit."
However when I was looking at madvapes.com I read this about Ego models...

"Low Resistance(less than 2.0 ohms) atomizers and cartomizers should not be used with eGo batteries."
The mega dual coil carto I wanted in the above link is 1.6 ohms, so are these devices even compatible with Ego batteries?

Lastly, are the batteries in the front parts of these devices removable, so they can be replaced with new or stronger ones? I've seen pictures of a couple models like the E-Power where the batteries can be removed without discarding the case, but is this true on other models like the Ego? The reason I'm asking is because Id find it more convenient to remove the batteries if they go bad than to dispose of an entire integrated battery and case.

After I settle on a device I'll get some opinions on other things like USB passthroughs and Ejuice.

Im really liking the look of Madvapes.com BTW. They are located 2 hours from where I live and have a great selection.

Thanks for the tips so far

Mike

Somewhere out there
Hi Mike,
I am new to the forum but not totally new to e cigs. I started a couple years ago with mini's, ePuffer, Red Dragon, Smart Fixx, they were 3 part set ups except for Red Dragon had a cartomizer which produced tons of vaper, but to me tasted so bad I quit using it! LOL The other mini's were just too short for battery life and I got frustrated with them. I didn't like messing with the atomizer either.
So I quit using e cigs until a couple months ago I started again with a 2 parter with cartomizer called Diamond, I liked it! Longer battery life good vapor but the cartos did burn when low on juice and taste horrible- yuck! So I just got a Halo stater kit of G6 new type, with catomizer, cooler burn technology & wow I love it! Lots of vapor and their e- liquids for me are the best I ever tried. My favs are Tribeca, Prime and Methol Ice. I suggest you try their sample e liquid to find your faves. The cost is low for the starter pack, I think $59.00?? Sample e juice is $29.00 for quite a few flavors. It is the best slim 2 piece type I have ever used and light weight too. So for someone with lots of e cig sitting around that I do not use, I think Halo would be your best starter for quality and their e juices are fabulous. bnrk

You might want to check out the Ramiya R2-750 at Analog Alternative, The Smoking Alternative
I think it will fit what you are looking for in regards to power while still being newbie friendly.
You can get the large kit for $64.95 and you will need to also order some liquids because you fill these yourself and they don't come with liquid. Sometimes you can buy liquids locally, so you should check into that. My favorite e-liquids are from http://www.halocigs.com

Here is the link to the video review:

This Maxi Roughstack setup looks very nice too! I like that I can upgrade the batteries. By the looks of it, it seems like the base part is wider than the part that the carto screws into, and that the switch is on the top of the battery casing instead of on the side. This is fine though, it kind of makes it look like a pipe.

I want to know a little more about this before I make a decision because I'm still looking at Ego devices, and others as well.

Fist of all, is their a USB pass through that is compatible with this, which is available at Madvapes?

I want to be able to save my batteries when possible.

Also, I noticed that the switch replacement part is out of stock at madvapes. Do the switches last long with these units?
More importantly how easy will it be to find parts for this elsewhere if I have to, because it looks like a new product?

Lastly if I get the Maxi Roughstack V2 without the kit, what charger should I get? I want one that will charge any of the batteries that are compatible with this unit if possible. Doesn't matter if it's USB or AC, as long as it works good.

Sorry for all the questions but I'm definitely a newb at this.

If you really want more power, more consistency, more throat hit and longer battery life, you should really consider one of the better 5 volt or variable volt models. They are head and shoulders better than any 3.7 volt PV which we have all been recommending. Here are two of the best on the market today:

5 volt GLV 2 (lifetime warranty): Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

Variable volt Darwin (2 year warranty - longest warranty on the market other than the GLV: Nhaler

The Darwin provides 21+ hours on a charge of heavy vaping and since it uses "regulated boost circuit" technology, there is no drop off in performance as the battery drains which does occur with 99% of other models on the market.

Ain't the Internet a wonderful thing?
So much good information. The only problem with a forum is in the end your gonna get 50 people who like 1 thing and 50 people who like another, especially when it comes to e-cigs. Everybody has different taste, after you are off analogs for a minute your taste most likely changes again.
Anyway, here is my experience and $0.02 worth.

I started out with the Halo G6 kit. Cost me about $70. I got a couple Halo Menthol samples. I've found I just don't like the Strong throat hit of Halo's juice (I believe there at 70pg/30vg) and Cool Mist was too Fake Minty, TruePure was too dry, Malibu wasn't too bad.
The G6 is a nice little unit. But, it is a little unit. I found 1 charged battery would only last me 4ish hours. If you work from 6 to 6 (12 hours) I would need 3 batteries. Sometimes the Carto would last just as long, sometimes not, so I would need 4 cartomizers (in case you get stuck in traffic). I can charge 1 battery on the way home, 1 at nite and 1 on the way to work, make sure I fill 4 carto's every nite.
To me this was a lot less like real smoking, this was a pain in the Azz!

Hello E-power 14650. 1 battery last me all day (I do keep a spare in the console, just in case). During the work day I use a SkokTek DC Mega Carto, it holds about 6 ml of juice, I could almost go 2 days on one fill.

It's a little bigger than a normal analog, more like a cigar now.
I'm finally off analogs thanks to my E-power!
