Good morning everyone..

It's been raining off n on for a couple of days now, so it's finally cooled down a little! Yay!

As to them damm pesky squirrels, I've tried many things to try to keep them off my bird feeders..I have four of them on double hanging poles with a squirrel baffle underneath. It's deterred them for the past four years...till this damn rogue one showed up a week or so ago. I;m tempted to get out my pistol...but then I'd get arrested and probably miss it anyway. So I'mm gonna slather it with grease and hope the little bugger will slide off.I think that he jumps on the baffle and then leaps on the feeder. it's pretty agile!

We still put vaseline on our bird feeder poles and make sure they are far away from the trees! Watching them try to get up that pole is so dang funny! The safflower seed does deter them, but I still like the sunflower seeds for the variety of birds they attract.
But, most importantly........how are you feeling?!?!?

I am willing to bet that Kay feels better than she has for a long time. Her posts are so well put together that it seems like she is a new person.

No trees anywhere close..and the baffle has deterred all of them but this one lil devil:D I have two sunflower feeders and one safflower feeder on double poles and two Thistle seed feeders on another feeder pole.

As to my health...I'm basically a one-armed bandit..tho i've lately been using my right arm/hand for many things.. out of necessity! But you know all about that from experience!

Did I mention that I'm having a CAT scan on the 5th of Aug? Then I'll have a better idea of what's wrong with my left arm. Did I mention that the so-called Ortho Dr. just took one quick look at me...NOT my shoulder/arm...he didn't even come within 5 ft. of me! All he had to say was Cortizone shots and physical therapy..In and out in about 2 mins.!! But..the resident Dr. said that when I come in after the Scan, to call him...and he gave me the phone no.:)

    'Afternoon everyone...

Yep, I've cycled back to being nocturnal... Too difficult to stay awake during the heat of the day and attempt to paint... boring subjects with the paint too quickly drying on the palette... in my quest to learn some painting techniques. o_O

Random Thought of the Day ::

We are creating the World to Come right now .. and, the New World that will unfold inches closer each and every day ..

It all started with Self Checkout .. a seemingly innocuous blip on the radar, designed and implemented by some Companies under the guise of "convenience" for the Customer .. I'm sure the Marketing folks that came up with this idea were richly rewarded and promoted .. Whether you like it or hate it, it's pretty much here to stay .. In fact, I believe Amazon operates some actual shops that don't require you do anything at all, just walk out the door and your purchases are automatically charged and accounted for ..

If this is taken a step or two further, the days of an actual Human doing the ringing up of your goods will become a quant memory .. and, the Jobs that those folks did will disappear along with them ..

The truth of it is, the Giant Companies that are the Real Power behind the Throne, continue to direct themselves toward the most effective and cost efficient method of doing about anything, and could care less about the Human Factor .. if a Machine can replace a Human, that's a good thing in their Collective Minds .. no pay, no sick time, no benefits, little downtime, no vacation, etc ..

Aristotle himself articulated this way back when ::

"If every instrument could accomplish its own work, obeying or anticipating the will of others, like the statues of Daedalus, or the tripods of Hephaestus, which, says the poet, ‘of their own accord entered the assembly of the gods’ if, in like manner, the shuttle would weave and the plectrum touch the lyre without a hand to guide them, chief workmen would not want servants, nor masters slaves."

So, as the Future continues to evolve, don't be surprised when you drive thru the Fast Food Lane and order your food at a touchscreen Kiosk .. and a machine spits it out at the Window .. "Hey, wait a minute, where's my fries .. ?? I said no onions on that Burger .."

And when it all comes to pass, we can ask ourselves what we did to try and stop it .. and the answer will be, nothing .. because we just adapted with it ..

After all, who calls Walmart and says "I don't like nor do I want self-checkout .. I want a Human doing that Job .. "

Oh great, another site to browse and spend money on.

Today, I had to go to the pharmacy and pick up meds a Dr. called in for me. I get to the register and the lady tells me the co-pay is $1.36. I look in my wallet and 0dollars are in it. I had to return to my Jeep and grab some coins in the console. I am spoiled by the use of a debit card.

Me too! I bet I haven't used an actual credit card in three months. I don't have a CC bill to pay, and since the debit goes almost instantly to my checking account, the bookkeeping is totally simple. I do carry and use cash for anything under about $20.00 if I don't need a record of the payment.

    Good morning Loungers

I just came in from checking my front garden! I should take my own advice and NOT forget to sprinkle Milorganite. Although those sweet deer munched on my baby hibiscus that I propagated from the mother plant, I was shocked to see that they left my kumquat young tree totally alone, with the fruit untouched!
It is supposed to rain sometime today, but turned the soaker hoses on anyway just in case Mother Nature changes her mind.

Just got mine in the mail today which was especially nice since I just ordered it yesterday. I'm going to spread it tonight on what's left of my hydrangea.

@Janet H my battles here are with squirrels. I have yet to harvest a single fig off my tree…they get them all. They also apparently find tropical hibiscus flowers tasty. That's why that plant had to join my tomato and pepper plants in the cage we put together for that purpose years ago

Yep, I battle our squirrels all the time. They ate my jade plant!! I do have 1 potted hibiscus that so far they haven't found - yet. The squirrels did do me the favor of planting clumps of the small sunflowers. One cluster was in my patio pot with the tomato plant, but I left them grow and they look nice all the same. They won't get the seeds like the big ones do so maybe they'll leave it alone?

Good morning Fran and all. AC guy is supposed to come today, thank goodness. Been frying for a week.

Oh my, no AC all week? Ugh! That happened to us last year on the hottest day and we elected not to fix the 23 year old unit, but replace it with a new unit. At least this year we don't have to worry about it conking out on us when we need it most. Sure put a big dent in the wallet though.

It doesn't say what it's made of. Looks pretty handy if it works.

Me too. And I always try to have cash for tips. Makes me feel better to know that there's a better chance of the server getting the whole tip.

    :thumb:

I ONLY leave cash tips, putting a zero for that if I happen to use credit/debit for the rest of the tab. Up to the server then to declare it or not, to employer, IRS...

Too many places seem to count tips toward minimum wage, so no benefit to the server unless they go way over that. And if the outfit is that cheap, well, I'd rather not let them stiff the server.

Always! I'm with you and David, I want to make sure that the server actually gets the tip.

Hi all, it's been a long time since I spent any time on here. I was curious as to how the heck could kids be vaping 50 mg of nicotine in the Juul. So I headed here to read up and learned there's stuff called nic salts now. So much has changed in the years I've been gone.

I've been content with my REOs, making my own juice.

Kay! It's so nice to see you, an old friend, here!
