If help is denied because of Puerto Rican debt, will those same people be appalled at the number of Puerto Ricans moving to the USA? After all, they have the same rights as other US citizens.

I don't think help has been denied, FEMA is on the ground .. I just don't think we're doing all we can .. I'm sure the US Military would be happy to pitch in .. from what I gather, the island is simply a wasteland now and deteriorating daily, especially for those with medical issues and older folks .. it just reminds me of the aftermath of Katrina, which, to this day, I believe is a large and ugly stain on America .. there were times during the Katrina fiasco that I cried for those poor people ..

While doing laundry at a truck stop, I had a long talk with a woman who became a truck-driver after devastating losses from Katrina. Apparently, she had minimal personal belongings, and minimal living-space when not driving. She had dreams of becoming a dispatcher, but her driving-partner was not in agreement about the possibility of that. Complete recovery after such a disaster is often not possible.

I seem to recall seeing news clips that the Navy and Marines are there, along with Air Nat Guard from many States. Working on linking the military air control with civilian, to increase air traffic in and out. Bringing in supplies from carriers and from the mainland.

I had not seen that, I stand corrected .. :)

In other commentary, the John McCain 60 Minutes interview Sunday simply reinforced my respect for this Great American .. it was particularly moving when he spoke of his cancer diagnosis ... and noted of his imminent passing :: "And, at the same time, celebrate, with gratitude, a life well-lived....I want, when I leave, that the ceremony is at the Naval Academy, And we just have a couple of people that stand up and say, 'This guy, he served his country."

He has, indeed, served his Country ..

Actually, although they are USA citizens, and can send delegates to the conventions where a candidate is nominated... they are denied a voice in the voting process....unless they move from Puerto Rico to one of the 50 states or D.C. Sad to know that US citizens from US territories are not given their full rights.

This could well turn out to be worse than Katrina in the number of lives lost...heartbreaking to watch. People have already died in hospitals because of lack of fuel for their generators... They have a dam that's in danger of collapse, already breached and more than 70,000 people in it's path that need to evacuate to avoid it, but...with communications down....have they even received the warning?... and if they have....how can they evacuate with roads that are destroyed and impassable?

Man I agree plus the way he is standing up to Trump because he knows this health bill is Sheet and would adversely affect many Americans. Try # 3 in the toilet thanks to a few R's doing the right thing. Face it he would have a lot of people in his area that would be affected.

Well Willie I am trying out Apple Music for 3 months have no doubt I will keep it also. So now when you come up with songs and artists I've never heard of and I like them I can just download them to my phone and listen to them in the car or through my audio system.. Takes about 10sec to download a song and doesn't take up that much space. Really cool.

Sadly, this debacle in Puerto Rico reminds me of Katrina also....and so far it looks like another huge ugly stain on American "powers-that-be."

" Do we take care of our own?" Hell no...seems that the poor areas get no help from the powers-that-be....

I'm totally disgusted with so much in this country right now....

I agree about McCain. I've always liked the man.

Puerto Rico is BIG news down here. We have the second largest population of Peurto Ricans in the country other than on the island itself. The place is essentially screwed. It's going to be months before they even stand a chance to turn on all the lights. I read an article in the local paper that summed it up best. If there's no electricity there is nothing else. Power is required to pump watet, purify water, pump fuel, communicate or most everything else. Only one hospital on the whole island has power at the moment and they said this morning that if no diesel shows up in the next 24 hours that will be the end of their power too. Terrible situation.

On a second note. I sent an email to the mayor of Key West and offered up my motorhome free to someone in the Middle Keys that needed it. He replied that he would turn it over to someone and would be in touch shortly. I've talked via email to him one time since and it appears nithing has been done. WTF?

Just thinking out loud here, but I'd lean toward believing once things in PR get a bit more mobile, you're likely to see an uptick in their populace in FL and probably in some other areas .. I'm not one to preach the Climate Change manifesto, however, what's happening in PR as well as Houston is a taste of what could be .. Houston is such a sad story as well .. the lax or non-existent Zoning attitude caused much of the flooding issues in that, nothing should have been built on that ground in the first place .. that, combined with the paving over of the wetlands and there you have it .. I read there is over 100,000 flooded out cars in Houston alone ..

McCain has always had the stones to take the direction he wanted .. "Maverick" indeed .. :) .. too bad he hung his hat next to Ms Palin .. ;) .. whoever talked him into that, should be flogged and locked into the Town Square stocks .. o_O

May have over done-did it today. We'll see how the 'body' feels tomorrow. The house cleaner was here today, so I thought it would be good to get some outside things done.

1. took out and power washed the pool cover.
....Well that should have been done last spring after opening the pool, but that didn't get done back then.
2. Moved 24+ concrete blocks from under the deck to the pool area in prep for pool closing
3. Moved 12 1x6x10 foot boards to pool area in prep for closing
...The boards blocks are used to hold down the cover.
4. Push mowed the pool area
5. Took out the tractor and mowed 2 1/2 acres of the property
6. Blew the leaves off the driveway, front walk, and front porch.

Was only 6 things but I was busy from 9:20 this morning 'till about 3 this afternoon. Told the cleaning lady next month she can do the outside work and I'll do the inside work in the air conditioned house. She said, nope, no thank you.

Just saying ... it's not just McCain that went back on their campaign promises which got them elected. I blame more then just him for the failure to get our health care problems fixed.

How many can holders on that tractor? Mine only has two, but I only have to mow about an acre ;)

Likewise ... just two holders and I have to be careful as I have a lot of contour on my property ... up, down, and sideways do I mow and sometimes my holders 'self eject' their contents.
