I found the Gallop pole interesting, however, one thing I would have liked to see the number of adults that are vaping that used the vape to stop smoking. Also, how many of the people in the different income brackets that are smokers.
For the last month or so I have been avoiding FaceBook.

I have gotten sick and tired of all of the hate and division from people. Granted I spent 21 years fighting for the rights of people to maintain their rights to free speech but just because a person has the right to their opinions doesn't mean that you can hate anyone who has a different opinion. I believe this is causing a division that is going to hurt our country. Rant over.

Since I have been avoiding FB I have been spending more time reading. One of the book series I have been reading has been The Hobbit. I finished An Unexpected Journey and I am now reading The Lord of the Rings. I've seen all of the movies, however, I discovered that I had never read the books.

One of my all time favorite stories!! I have read them several times and thoroughly enjoyed the movies. If my husband wasn't such a Star Trek fan, my dogs would have all had Tolkien names. One of my first dogs, a mixed breed, (before hubby) was Samwise Gamgee, my fair haired friend loyal to the end. Unfortunately, I lost him in my divorce, I had to leave him in Texas. I left him with family, but one day he got out never to be seen again. I miss my Sammy. He would have been long gone by now anyway, he was born 8/7/78. I can tell stories of my goofy Sam.

Jerry, just avoid reading the timeline on FB... I've only read it a few times and that's where I've seen all of the ugliness pop up...sometimes from those who have been friends... One of whom I know well enough to know that his hate is, unfortunately, based on an occurrence that happened when he was a teenager... My FB page is set to private and I only visit the pages of those friends that I know don't post any thing ugly or distasteful, or the art group pages that I follow ( and have rules about any such posting not being allowed).

While on the subject of FB, I have a warning about FB Messenger... Last week I received what I thought was a message from a friend, who is also a friend here on ECF. Her name and FB profile pic was used. "She" told me she had just been given a much needed Federal Grant and was happily deciding how to invest her 50k. I told "her" to be careful of scams and was assured it was real, and gave me the name of the lawyer who had helped in securing it, and suggested I text him to find out if I could get one also. Gave me a number, that was supposed to be his private cell.

In spite of her being my friend, I don't believe in Santa, so I did a search on the lawyer and a reverse number look up for the cell phone. The name of the lawyer is a well known, young, up and coming attorney in NC, whose work has nothing to do with the acquiring of Federal Grants. The phone number traced back to Renton, WA... This old lady was born a bit earlier than yesterday...

The next couple of days, messages..."Sandy, are you there? Did you text for the grant yet?" When I answered that the lawyer in question had nothing to do with that kind of work, was told "He just recently started working for the government". Yeah, right...

The persistence, and insistence was upsetting me because I have been friends with this person here on ECF since the beginning of my time here, and I didn't want to ruin that by blowing her off on FB...

Yesterday morning, another couple of messages, not at all what I would expect from the person I know from here, that tipped me off that it might not actually be her. So...I sent a PM here, asking if she had been messaging me on FB messenger, or...if somebody else was using her name and pic.?

My final message to the "phony".. "Take your scam elsewhere. You are not ********! You are using someone else's identity and have been reported..."

While I'm sure Facebook has it's place, it's just not the place for me .. the Human Race got along fine before Mr. Zuckerberg turned on a College Hook Up local site and wheeled home a boatload of dinero soon after .. (although, I have so say, I wish I had invented it .. who couldn't use those Benjamins .. ??)

I am also quite sure there are nice and friendly people that Populate FB .. along with the hatemongers, scammers, ........'s and those that generally have been provided what they feel is a voice for whatever "agenda" they want to push .. Facebook and others provide that platform with the only entrance fee being an ISP .. and, we have entered an age where these so called "Social Media" sites have generated a sub-population of data mining, out and out Privacy Invasion, sales of your info in order to tempt you into buying junk, and more ..

The Web in general, and I've said this since the days of USENET and BBS's .. men are women, women are men, gays are straight, straights are gay, kids are adults, adults are kids, and so on and so on and Scooby Dooby Doo ..

And while I'm at it, have you ever seen these "Mapping Vehicles" tooling around town .. ?? Where they have a high tech camera rig mounted on top of a vehicle as they drive around the various 'Hoods, capturing every detail and GPS coordinate .. ?? I mean, it's bad enough I can zoom in on my own Home from Google Maps .. or take a virtual drive up my street .. or, have my ISP address tracked to exactly where I am typing this, as we speak .. Brave New World, indeed ..

Lastly, it's probably my touch of dyslexia, but when I did try FB, I just found it very hard to coherently follow .. ..

Well, I know all you Northeners are braving the brrrr...temps, but so are we here in Florida........yes, it's only in the high 50s/60s, but our blood has thinned over the years, and we feel it.

I was born and raised in Philly, and I'm rather enjoying this extreme temperature, because it is so reminiscent of my Northern days. I can afford to enjoy it because I know it is short-lived.

My hubby wanted me to experience even more at-home temps by taking a trip to Philly to visit his sisters who have been experiencing some health issues. I just couldn't do it, and being the man he is, he understood. So he left early this afternoon and should be there by 7am tomorrow! I, in the meanwhile, have my booties and winter jammies on and am sipping some hazelnut java and am cozy and warm as a bedbug......as 'they' used to say!

I do use Facebook, but not on a daily basis......my timeline has to be the most boring of all since I've blocked all and everything to do with politics, religion and any other subject I care not to read. Unfortunately, it took some 'unfollowing' of some of my friends whom I've known for years, but I've repeatedly told them that certain subjects are verboten and if they continued, I would have to unfollow, or block or whatever it took to keep from reading them. My timeline consists of news from my gardening club, news from the BMX competitors (my son and 3 grandchildren), nutrition and my local neighborhood club. I also have some ECF friends there also.......it only takes me a few minutes to read it all, and I come out of it as peaceful as I entered.

I've just exposed my biggest flaw...and why I will never be wealthy... Too darn strong a sense of right and wrong, and too dang honest for my own good...

Email has been sent to him... Who is better equipped to go after the scammer than a lawyer ?...
And this particular lawyer has some impressive credentials....most likely why his name was used in the con...

That scam has been on FB for years. A lot of people fell for it, sadly.

Lucky for me they are very accurate for my area .

Speaking of temps I need a new outside thermometer that is very accurate. Not the $5 from Walmart. This time of year it really makes a difference outdoor plant-wise. Any suggestions?
