Hola .. :)

I think it's high time you opened an Eatery ..

Call it ::

"Downhome Jerry's" (be sure and try our Cornbread) .. :D
My eatery is always open when visitors are in town. I've also been known to take requests.
My daughter (Syndee) ask me to start a collection of my recipes for her. It is a work in progress that I add to as I make something special. We will see how it turns out.

@lulu836 , Pico takes flat top.
I have a Pico X and use flat tops in it.

Good morning everyone! :)

Good one Yiddle! I think you got all of us. ;)

@Janet H can I have some cookies?

I'm finally starting to feel better! :thumb:

Absolutely, but we didn't get as many made as we'd planned. We started experimenting with the kiffel and they came out looking pretty weird. They taste good though, powdered sugar covers a lot of flaws... I'll still be baking as we find time.

I'm so glad you're feeling better.

Good afternoon all. I am having an inside day. Even though it is 70° outside, my body is keeping inside. So since I am stuck inside I'm making some ejuice, unflavored of course. I also have a pot of ham and beans on the stove. Yes, it is the ham bone and some bits and pieces from Thanksgiving. And I will make a batch of my Moms secret recipe cornbread to go with it. Yum Yum!!!

Guess it wouldn't be considered secret anymore if you shared the recipe... Haven't found one we're really happy with so far.

I got rid of stacks of cookbooks awhile ago. Each one only held a couple recipes that were interesting enough to keep. Now I just print out recipes I know I'll make and enjoy and try to attach a picture to each. I've just got 4 binders, but they're filled with recipes, with notes, we actually use and they'll get passed down to both our children who really enjoy cooking. Sure would be nice if at least one of the 4 grandsons took a shine to cooking. You never know. Our daughter could burn water when she was younger, but she's a better cook then me now!

Good morning.

Janet I too got rid of many cookbooks years ago fir the same reason. But I scanned in all my favorite recipes and combined them into an ebook in my word processor. I turned that into a PDF so I keep it into my ipad and iphone. If I want to share, add, delete or change a recipe it takes seconds.

Good morning! Finally caught up.

My daughter (Syndee) ask me to start a collection of my recipes for her. It is a work in progress that I add to as I make something special. We will see how it turns out.
Make sure it's in a usable form early on, way before you're near finishing it. My grandmother never finished anything she wanted to share. Now, it's too late.

I'm sure it will be cherished for generations.
Our daughter could burn water when she was younger,
All it takes is to forget that you started the water for tea, then take a nap. Wake up to a pan with a whole burned through it! I know from experience.

There is a story about Mom's "Secret" recipe. My son and his wife were at my sister's house in Austin. Nancy and I were there as well as my Mom. My sister had made soup for lunch along with cornbread. Christina, our daughter-in-law, liked the cornbread my sister had made and ask how she made it. Connie, not missing a beat told her since she was now a member of our family she thought that it was safe to share the recipe. Christina later told us that she was really feeling special being handed down a family recipe. With a straight face, Connie told her, in a low voice, use 2 boxes of Jiffy Corn Muffin mix in a greased 9-inch pan. I thought my son was going to fall out of his chair laughing so hard. After that, we now call it Mom's "Secret" Recipe.

Make sure it's in a usable form early on, way before you're near finishing it.
I have them in Microsoft Word for now.

Oh, good morning all. I hope everyone has a good Friday.

Hola .. :)

Made "Breakfast for Dinner" yesterday evening .. that boil in the bag Country Sausage Gravy is pretty durn good on a few canned biscuits ..

Finishing up "Tutankhamun: The Untold Story" by Thomas Hoving .. it's a fascinating read, and Hoving treats the subject matter much like "Undaunted Courage" / Stephen Ambrose story on Lewis and Clark .. really writing historical perspective with a gripping narrative style that just draws you in as good as any great novel, only it's non-fiction .. Truth is truly, sometimes stranger than fiction ..

From the "What's Twerking My Chain Today" File

SNAP (the food stamp program), has a place .. do people abuse the System .. ?? Of course .. I don't know of any "Program" that is not subject to abuse .. clamping down and requiring work in some cases is probably a logical move on a level or two .. at the same time, legit and provable need has to be part of any equation .. like many things in Life, there are myriad facets to the Debate ..

Back years ago, I remember there were actual paper "stamps" used by recipients .. and a definite line on what they could or could not be used on .. which was promptly ignored by many Merchants, since there was really no way to prove what the "stamps" were being used in payment for .. there was also a thriving Black Market in these things, where recipients would sell (at a discount) for cash money the "stamps" ..

When the Debit Style plastic came into being, it was supposed to clamp down on such abuse .. which it really did not accomplish .. folks to this day will attempt to sell a balance on a card at a discount .. or volunteer to go to the Grocer and buy you some stuff and then sell you that stuff at a discount .. the discount is generally 50% .. so, it's pretty tempting .. I've actually been accosted in the Kroger parking lot by folks that have made that offer, usually with some kind of scam line like "I need gas money .." or some such .. and, these Sellers do get Buyers, because who would not be tempted to get their Grocery List filled for 50% off .. ?? (disclaimer :: I've never taken anyone up on this)

As well, I think the definition of what qualifies as a SNAP purchase has been liberalized over the years .. I mean, I've seen folks in front of me in the Grocer line getting filets, etc .. I asked a Store Manager I know a while back about that, and he said "It's pretty much anything these days that is not considered hot food" .. which, I guess is why the Fast Food and other Restaurants can't take SNAP .. (although there is a Pizza Chain that has capitalized by offering "Bake at Home")

(on a side note, I don't know why the term "Government Cheese" just popped into my head)

At any rate, I'm not writing this to offend anyone out there that uses the Program .. I believe part of Governments job is to insure the well being of those less fortunate, I always have .. at the same time, if fat can be trimmed, it's a good thing, as long as those with real needs are not penalized ..

Just stop handing the 1% breaks ..

That story is too funny! We do like the Jiffy Corn Muffin mix and that's the flavor we're looking for, but we should be able to make it ourselves. And Jiffy is so inexpensive and easy. It may just be that there are some things that are easier to let the big professional boys make while we concentrate on other things.

Passing down recipes is so special. Mike's grandmother always had such a hard time because she just used what she had on hand. Like she used a big old coffee cup for measuring so if you don't have one of those it's a guessing game. I can adjust cooking things, but baking is much more fussy. Unfortunately we only have the dobas torte recipe for our special Christmas cake. It's a shame so much has been lost.

Good morning. It's 25 outside this morning with a beautiful sunrise. The raccoon must have been back last night because the suet feeder was messed up. You'd think that critter would have learned by now that there's no suet left in it by evening time.

I should have added to my recipe post above that while it's sad to have lost some of the old family recipes, it's also an opportunity to start some new traditional recipes. I started a Thanksgiving recipe tradition with the broccoli casserole and we'll see if the same is true of the sweet potato casserole. (tastes like pumpkin pie!)

Oh...wonder if it was the one I tasted on thanksgiving... It was wonderful and had pecans in it. So yummy!
