    Hola .. :)

    Woke up to 25o, but it's sunny, so that's a plus ..

It's been a while since I posted any of my work, nothing really interesting to post .. so .. Had a customer commission a "sustainable, eco-friendly" guitar and I'm finishing it up as he wants it before Christmas ..

His main stipulation was he wanted something that looked traditional .. Sourcing wood was easy, I have a stash of recycled wood, it's just getting it in a large enough size to work with the application, the body ended up being a sandwich of mahogany and maple laminated using an old school technique of hide glue .. metal parts will be all aluminum, so that's easily recycled .. I had a bit of a hard time with finishes, but ran across ::

Green Building Supply, Non Toxic Supplies, Environmentally Friendly Materials

And adapted some of their products .. the main issue I ran into was, he wanted a flame wood top and you just are not going to find recycled flame maple in enough size to do it, or at least I could not find it .. so, I decided to paint the top and try and mimic a flame maple .. it's not exactly how I'd like it, but it turned out OK, from a few feet away, it looks passable .. that, and finding non-petroleum-based plastic for use in the trim .. I got lucky and found a guy that molded the parts using some sort of corn derivative ..

Did the fitting of the trim yesterday, and today I'm going to finish off the electronics .. the neck inlays are mother of pearl from an old, useless accordion I had laying around ..

Yes, I've been meaning to clean up the workbench now for a few years but then I would not be able to find anything ..;) .. it is what it is .. and, yeah, if you look close, you may spot some nail polish, which I mix to match color on restoration projects, chips, nicks and such .. nail polish tends to mimic paint and finishes on old guitars .. who knew .. ??

Well from the picture the paint job to mimic flamed maple looks fantastic. I can't imagine the customer being the least bit disappointed on the contrary I foresee a very pleased and happy customer.

The temps dropped to 60 while we were out to lunch, and so glad I brought a sweater with me, cause it sure was needed by the time we left the restaurant.

Gracie, I'm so sorry for you, and all you fine folks in the Great State of Florida .. oh, the Humanity .. ;)

Technical question. At home, I had a non-smart tv and a Bluray player. If the tv was on and you turned the bluray on it would switch over to the bluray and the apps would show on the screen. Now I have a smart tv and when I turn on my Bluray nothing happens. Do I need some other sort of BluRay player to work with this stupid smart tv?

I don't have a smart TV, but do have Amazon Fire TV/sticks, and a really old DVD theatre-inna-box. Would you let us know what brand your TV and Bluray are? It might help troubleshooting your gear.

On the TV, there may be a menu screen that asks for the video input source (Antenna, Cable, HDMI, etc.) On my sets, you would pick a menu button on the remote. When I open the screen I get to pick the source of the video I want to watch. My Firesticks are attached by an HDMI input plug, so I would pick HDMI if I want to watch from the Fire. If you know what your Bluray is, it might be there. My remotes also have a button to select DVD and or video input (DVD/TV), but I only need them if I want to watch something on the DVD player.

Roku & Firestick are both little USB (juul/pod mod) looking things that you would hook up to one of the input jacks on the TV set. Hulu and Amazon Prime are like pay TV apps like you would find on a smart phone or a tablet. Youtube is similar, but generally free. They get their video from the internet, usually by a wireless connection.

My tv is a Seiki smart tv which only has 4 apps of which Netflix is the only one of interest to me. My old Sony DVD player doesn’t have the apps I’m looking for either.I understand a Roku Streaming stick would give me what I want which is,Netflix, Hulu and Amazon prime.

If you are a Prime member, the Firestick will let you watch those services. The firestick will also play Amazon music and some Alexa features and skills. I'm really happy with mine.

We don't use it much (mainly when the G-Kids are around) but our Firestick can be used for Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix and Youtube. Can also load the Disney+ app if you have a subscription for that. Don't know anything about the Roku.

Morning, all. IN between storms, the next few are hopefully going to give the mountains some snow, badly needed.
We had 1 1/2 inches by 1am last night.
Pretty, but 1/2 gone by tonight.
Still, it's fantastic with the Christmas lights
