Good morning, Anise
Hola ..
Woke up to 25o, but it's sunny, so that's a plus ..
It's been a while since I posted any of my work, nothing really interesting to post .. so .. Had a customer commission a "sustainable, eco-friendly" guitar and I'm finishing it up as he wants it before Christmas ..
His main stipulation was he wanted something that looked traditional .. Sourcing wood was easy, I have a stash of recycled wood, it's just getting it in a large enough size to work with the application, the body ended up being a sandwich of mahogany and maple laminated using an old school technique of hide glue .. metal parts will be all aluminum, so that's easily recycled .. I had a bit of a hard time with finishes, but ran across ::
Green Building Supply, Non Toxic Supplies, Environmentally Friendly Materials
And adapted some of their products .. the main issue I ran into was, he wanted a flame wood top and you just are not going to find recycled flame maple in enough size to do it, or at least I could not find it .. so, I decided to paint the top and try and mimic a flame maple .. it's not exactly how I'd like it, but it turned out OK, from a few feet away, it looks passable .. that, and finding non-petroleum-based plastic for use in the trim .. I got lucky and found a guy that molded the parts using some sort of corn derivative ..
Did the fitting of the trim yesterday, and today I'm going to finish off the electronics .. the neck inlays are mother of pearl from an old, useless accordion I had laying around ..
Yes, I've been meaning to clean up the workbench now for a few years but then I would not be able to find anything .... it is what it is .. and, yeah, if you look close, you may spot some nail polish, which I mix to match color on restoration projects, chips, nicks and such .. nail polish tends to mimic paint and finishes on old guitars .. who knew .. ??

Good afternoon!
Beautiful work @Uncle Willie r!
The temps dropped to 60 while we were out to lunch, and so glad I brought a sweater with me, cause it sure was needed by the time we left the restaurant.
My tv is a Seiki smart tv which only has 4 apps of which Netflix is the only one of interest to me. My old Sony DVD player doesn’t have the apps I’m looking for either.I understand a Roku Streaming stick would give me what I want which is,Netflix, Hulu and Amazon prime.
Thank you.Seems the Seiki uses its own operating system. On a Roku system, pressing the "home" button on the remote takes you to the menus where you can add apps, which then each need to be initialized / activated. All three you mention are subscription, but (at least on Roku models) there are many free ones. History Channel may be there, haven't looked recently, but if so, that may allow streaming of already aired shows.

Ordered that one from Amazon for $24 this morning. I'm just not techie at all and this is all new stuff to me. I take it all the signing in stuff has to be done on a computer??Hola ..
Frannie :: I am an owner and proponent of the ROKU eco-system .. once you plug a ROKU in and select the "input" of the TV the ROKU is plugged into (use Menu / Input on TV using TV remote, it will be HDMI 1, 2, 3, 4, look at the label when you plug in) .. the ROKU menu should come up, you'll likely need to enter your wireless Internet info .. it's pretty easy to navigate from there .. the ROKU comes with HULU / Netflix, etc pre-loaded .. there are also some completely free channels ..
As far as getting "Vikings" Season 5, you can sign up for the 30 day free trial using a laptop / pc, etc and simply sign into your ROKU using the same login, password ..
There is also a Deal with ROKU currently that allows you 3 months of HULU and Pandora using a new ROKU device .. it's on this link, but I don't know if you have to buy the ROKU from ROKU to get it or if any off the shelf ROKU comes with it ..
Roku
Roku
I believe Walmart has the ROKU Express 2019 Model at $24 and free pick up in store .. that's the best deal I know of .. and that's likely the model you want .. don't know if that includes the 3 months HULU/Pandora

Lastly, I don't know about the Apple Eco-System, but the ROKU pretty much has allowed me to add any app I've thrown at it ..

I guess I should add that I have Amazon Prime , and my daughter added me to her Netflix account. I intend to add Hulu for the $5.99 a month I've been seeing.
Will do.Be sure and take advantage first on the 30 day Free HULU try .. or, if possible, get the ROKU deal of 3 months Free HULU / Pandora ..
ME NEITHER, and I'm not planning to spend a bundle on something that I probably won't know how to use, anyway.Ordered that one from Amazon for $24 this morning. I'm just not techie at all and this is all new stuff to me. I take it all the signing in stuff has to be done on a computer??
I look at pieces like this and wonder how long it took to carve that. Beautiful work.As a woodworker, I have, over the years, collected bits of the craft, especially those I can find that exhibit what a Master can to .. this piece, which I believe is Japanese and from the 17th or 18th Century, is simply a marvel of the ability of the Master Carver .. whenever I look at it, I'm still amazed at the workmanship .. the years of dedication to the Craft is reflected ..
