I don't particularly know just why, but for a good portion of my Adult Life, I have had a deep seated love for the Eastern Seaboard / New England .. the History, the food, the architecture, the Historical Significance and more fascinated me even before I ever stepped a foot on the actual soil .. Over the years, I have had the pleasure to visit D.C., the Jersey Shore, Atlantic City, Cape May, Asbury Park .. New York City, Niagara Falls, the Finger Lakes, the Poconos and more .. and, I enjoyed it as much as any place I have ever been .. even the names still evoke a longing ..

Within a five mile stretch of the Jersey Shore, north of Cape May, there was/is an area known as the Wildwoods .. where tourists since the 1950's and earlier, during the warm months, stayed at exotically named places such as the Malibu, Sahara and Monaco .. places that we affectionately called Motels (getting to be more of a rarity these days, supplanted by Hotels) .. vacationing, as they say "Down the Shore" .. these exotically named places, which also included the Lollipop and the Jolly Roger, were candy colored structures inspired by Miami Beach and fantasy vacations these families could not afford .. yet gave them a reasonable facsimile and a reasonable price ..

Those that remain are the dreamy leftovers of a long gone era (if any remain at all) ..

Nostalgia that can be visited for a time and then left behind .. the shells of a memory .. still being wandered and populated by the untold number of Ghosts of happy families ..

The wingspan of both Porky as well as Buffalo Bob would never be conducive to actual flight .. unless, of course, it was a Flight of Fantasy .. ;) .. as well, I would not be wanting to be standing under either in the event of an "evacuation" .. ;) .. bombs away .. ;)

Not just physical ability, Yiddle. I'm having serious problems keeping up with new technology, and am more apt to make things worse by trying. I know I can ask questions here and get good answers. Problem is, I don't understand them.

OMW...don't feel as tho you're the only one...I've been like that for years.

Yeah, pigs and buffalo and humans have huge evacuations. Did you know that the white streak in avian evacuations is concentrated urinary excretions? Yep, they don't pee, they preserve water.

I have so many memories from the years I lived in South Jersey...;) days spent on the boardwalks of Wildwood and Ocean City... digging in the sand at Cape May for the polished quartz COPYRIGHTDMCA called Cape May diamonds, that people have looked for since the 1800's... the diner in Somers Point and the bridge in Port Republic, just down the street from Tona's house, that were used as locations for "Eddie and The Cruisers". The curious term "Shoobies" used by locals for visitors to the shore, because in a time long past, people would arrive by train for the day bringing their food in a shoe box... The huge Victorian homes in Cape May, once summer homes of the wealthy that have become B&B's and are wonderful to wander through when open to tour them... I could go on and on... I haven't been back since I moved to PA, but there were still motels at the shore when I left...;)

I don't recall who took us there but it was a car load of kids, related and non-related..we'd all have a sack with bathing suits and a towel, spend hours on the rides and then cross the street to play in the ocean, wouldn't have to leave till it was dark. Ahh...sweet sweet memories.....

I took a trip to my hometown of Randolph Mass. some years ago with my daughter...to my old home...talk about bittersweet..it's where my mother passed.... to the ole swimming holes all us kids used to walk miles n miles to get to..and I really did remember exactly how to get to every place that we went to:D...we'd have to go to the dentist in Boston cuz my Dad was in the Coast Guard...always passed the huge Hershey's factory...ahhh...the awesome smell of fresh chocolate!

Spent a few week ends in a cabin with some friends and their parents in a cabin on a cliff right on the edge of the ocean...had my first somewhat orgasmic experience....when they cooked straight-from-the-ocean lobster.

Wow...you started this trip down memory lane!!!

...riding horses bare-back .....there was a riding stable way down at the end of our dirt road, I'd curry the horses and then get to ride them.

Yes, I was a tomboy.:)

apropos.....

The time has come, the walrus said to talk of many things
Of shoes and ships and sealing wax, and cabbages and kings
And why the sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings.

Approximate memory of Lewis Carroll's The Walrus and the Carpenter.

Used to love ridin bareback. Throw a bridle on and away you went. I think the horses liked it too, especially on a hot day.
