Morning, misfits.

Rain continues, although nothing heavy, just enough to make everything soggy. Cats have been keeping an eye out for the sun breaks, then hiding under the deck for the next one so they can get back in :)

Hola .. :)

The Administration has sent out a voluntary request for any ex-Military, regardless of how long you may have been out, to consider coming back in, if you have any Medical Training while in .. I was a Combat Medic during my time (54 years ago now), so I don't know if they will take me ..

However, I sent an e-mail this morning indicating I would be happy to serve my Country again .. we'll see what happens ..

I'm, of course, unable to do some things, but I was well trained and deployed for a year ..

I think it's a longshot, but, I've always believed in doing my bit for Society when I can ..

Yeap, officially bored, just finished watching Dr. Strangelove. First time I have seen it and it was interesting watching Peter Sellers playing the three roles he was in. It must have been exhausting doing all three.

Jerry

Great movie, though .. Slim Pickens riding that bomb was, er, the bomb ..

I miss just the simple act of going out to eat .. Cracker Barrel, Applebees, Chili's, even Denny's or Bob Evans and other locally owned eateries .. I'm not going to order take away from these places .. it's just not the same .. I don't want my meal residing in a foam container until I get home .. I mean, it's one thing to hit Taco Bell ..

My plan for the last several months was to pay a visit to my long lost and finally found Aunt that lives in Myrtle Beach in late April .. I was going to stay in a nice hotel for at least the first night .. while there, take in some great seafood and the beach ..

Now, it's shut down .. hotel reservations cancelled .. beaches closed ..

I don't know what to do .. go anyway, don't go .. ?? I'm going to call her tomorrow and see what she says .. combined with her age of 90 and the whole "Social Distancing" bit .. I'm leaning toward don't go ..

This chatter about State border restrictions that keeps floating around is not helping things any ..

It's a weird situation, isn't it. I wonder if that restriction could be challenged under the Interstate commerce clause.

Dang man! You're caught between a rock and a hard place with that decision. I guess I'd say you have to put it on hold. For all you know if you went you could carry the virus to her unwittingly. I can see though how you don't want to put it off because of her age.

Do you know if she's tech savvy at all. We bought and sent a tablet to Janet's sister so they could do FaceTime calls instead of in person visit. Jeanie (her sister) isn't all that tech savvy so we set it all up before sending it to her. Then gave her simple instructions on turning it on an starting the FaceTime app. It's worked out nice.

Perhaps for now, some long chats on the phone might be a better option than exposing yourself (by traveling) or her to the virus if you staid with her, given the hotels are closed.

I spend about an hour on the phone with her every weekend .. we've gotten pretty close considering she last saw me when I was 3 ..

Anita has an iPad .. she can navigate well enough to have a photo sent to her, but she's been very reluctant to go anywhere beyond that .. I'd planned on staying at a hotel for at least the first night there, just to get acclimated and kind of ease in gradually ..

She has a 3 BR condo and owns the place next door as well, which is vacant ..

But yeah, at her age, and the unknown factor of 'am I a carrier and don't know it' .. as well as a shut down in her area which limits anything we can do together .. the distinct prospect that by the end of April there could very well be border restrictions, who knows ..

My long lost and then found Cousin, Anita's son Dan, is 25 year NYPD, I've got a call out to him to talk it over .. I talked to him last week just to get a handle on how things are in NYC .. it was pretty grim ..

Our governor has put restrictions on inter-state travel. Everything but essentials is closed. Parks, beaches, hotels, restaurants (except take out/curbside delivery), etc. Fortunately liquor stores still open. I do understand how important meeting your Aunt is, but at this time I would have to suggest stay at home. Hopefully there is more time and in a few months things will loosen up (gawd I hope so!!!), but right now I would not entertain a plane flight to anywhere.

I won't post any links here because of explicit language, but if you want a good laugh and some creative song writers/singers, go to youTube and search for "Stay the f**k at home". Some good smiles and belly laughs if you are not put off by the explicit language.

Geordi likes to lean on a chair in the living room that backs up to a front window. He sometimes barks at cars going by and especially people out walking (very rural here so Doggie TV is not very exciting). I swear his bark has gone from "Get Off My Lawn!" to "Stay The F**k At HOME!!).

BTW, today is his 5th birthday.:bday: Geordi :bday::banana:!!! :toast: to many more!

Morning, misfits.

More rain, and the forecast is the same as the other day, another week of it.

Well, for the first time in about 10 years I did NOT go to AZ for my Dad's b'day. He was 98 this time. All the above cited reasons. Couldn't see driving 1400+ miles to call him from the parking lot. Concerned more about inadvertently taking it to him than about me picking it up on the road. Not wanting to be quarantined in some seedy motel in Modesto...

I'd hate to live the rest of my life wondering if I was the one who ended his life...

Wise decision! So many have had to put their plans on hold, but as the saying goes: better safe than sorry!
Keeping busy with projects that have been put off and organizing 'stuff' seems to take our minds off what we are all experiencing.

Praying a lot more these days, and when I do, I can actually feel the tension release from my body; shoulders drop and neck feels less tense........new motto for ME; faith is stronger than fear!

Good morning. Overcast and very damp here, but hopefully this is a clearing day.

The laser surgery should clear up my vision a little but it's mainly to remove pressure. There's another surgery he wants to do that should help me see a little better but he wants to clear up the eye first and get the pressure down. I'm a little nervous. No I'm actually a bit more than a little nervous. Thanks for asking!

Anybody would be a little more than nervous! It's a scary thing to have someone messing with your eye. Evidently though this is something that can't be ignored. I think the waiting to have it done is worse than having it done. Waiting is the pits! Just try to keep yourself distracted so you don't dwell on it. Try to think positive because I'm sending positive prayers and vibes to you!

Good morning :)

Check out this virtual tour at the NY Botanical Garden. Incredible!

I spend quite a bit of time in there. It’s fun just to admire the flowers!

Wow! That place is amazing!

Think I have to agree with others. Don't go just yet. If she does come down with this virus you don't want to wonder for the rest of your life if you brought it to her. Or she gives it to you for that matter. I wouldn't want to fly and it's a long drive with stops along the way with plenty of chances to pick something up.

Good morning/afternoon all. I have pretty much done all of the little things I can do around the yard so I'm off on another hobby. I'm getting all my reloading gear out and doing research on the best loads for using my 243 rifle for coyotes. I originally had thought about using my 17hmr but I have to admit that my hands are not as steady as they used to be and the willy coyote and can be hard to get a really clear shot at some times. I would really not want to only wound the dog and have it suffer. I prefer a solid hit and an immediate kill vice a long-suffering kill. I have loads for deer but they are overkill for a varmint. Now I'm reading up on some of the lighter bullets and faster powder loads to get the flattest trajectory for shots out to 250 yards. If I can call them in closer it will make it a lot easier.

My amaryllis buds started opening yesterday. This is the red one. There's so many buds they're crowding each other out! Nice to see a splash of color in my kitchen on a rainy day. And there's a 2nd stalk coming. That's a little bubble on the side. Wasn't sure what to do with it, but somewhere I read to just leave it be for awhile so it gets stronger. I'll probably separate it when I put it to bed for the next winter.

Maybe you just need a new 'toy' to get the Wiley Coyote.

I'd hate to live the rest of my life wondering if I was the one who ended his life...

My DH's mother is 96, in an assisted living facility. Her mind is about gone. She knows us all, she just can't remember anything for more than 5 seconds. We can't visit her, but today stopped by with my homemade chopped liver that she loves (her mother's recipe - I am the only one who spent time in the kitchen with GiGi and learned her secrets for this), some soda, baked goods, and misc food. DH left it at the front desk - strict no visitors. When he called later to make sure she got everything, she said she only got the chopped liver and crackers (they were in 1 bag, we left 3 bags and the front desk person labeled each bag, which we will do from now on). DH said check your fridge - sure enough, there was everything else. "If people don't tell me they are leaving things, I don't know", "No Mom, we tell you but you don't remember. You have to get up and look in the fridge."

Bottom line, we are almost glad we can't visit her. If something happened after a visit, we wouldn't be able to live with ourselves.

On a more cheery vein, this one I can post because it is clean and awesome!
