Good morning. It's hazy and humid out there this morning. Think I'll go out and pull some weeds while we wait for the Verizon guy to show up. Our Next Door site showed at least 2 other people with this same problem. One said he had an appt with the Verizon guy and he never showed until the next day. We have an appt between 8:00 and noon. Hey Verizon! Don't you know that people are stuck at home and need their internet?

Morning, all.

Seems they're keeping the thermostat set low for us, but still no rain. Maybe later in the week...

Good morning! Ellie loves this video for cats. She gets up right next to the screen every time I play it for her and Simon.

Uh, hope she's not sticking her claws into that screen!

Good morning/afternoon all. I have one addiction that can cause a bit of distraction in my daily life. I'm addicted to reading. I have projects sitting on my workbench and will sit down to read a page or two in one of the many books on my tablet/Kindle. I'll come back to reality when my coffee cup is empty or my blatter is full. I will correct whatever it was that distracted me and return to the book for just a couple more pages. Oh well, there is always tomorrow for the projects and I just need to get to a good spot to take a break from reading.

Good morning everyone. Hot and humid here.

The Verizon saga continues. The guy called yesterday to say he wouldn't make it here and he'd reschedule us. He didn't know that Verizon cancelled our original Monday appt. to set us up for Sunday. He finagled around and got us set up back to Monday. He said our problem sounded like we needed a splicer and not just a regular tech like him. Evidently there are at least 2 other houses in our development with the same problem. He also gave us a couple of other Verizon phone numbers to call to get us a credit for not having internet service for a week. So, hopefully a splicer guy will show up today and get us fixed up. I just hope they don't show up and tell us we need something or someone that will take another few days to get. I'm going to wait to see what the guy today says is the problem so I have ammunition for when I call the business office.

Yesterday I went out to the garden to find my monster zucchini is dead. No biggie, I've got enough to last me a couple years. Something is killing off my cuke vines too and that's sad. Think its cucumber beetles. My peppers are producing better than ever before and all the tomatoes are ripening at the same time! The deluge from Isaias beat down the onions so they're not looking so good. I did what I could to tidy up and harvest and then came in to cool down. Meanwhile the weeds in the flower beds are trying to take over, but at least they're easy to pull after the rain we've had. It's looking like a jungle out there!

@Diver9543 I can totally relate to your reading addiction. When my kids were little I had books in different rooms so whenever I had any kind of break I'd grab one and read. It was frustrating to have to stop to pee or make dinner. These days I'd rather stick with one at a time. When we used to have our ladies weekend at the shore we'd show up with bags of books and lay them out on the table. We'd finish one and go pick up another one and keep going. It was great!

David I worried about that too but she doesn’t. About the only time she uses her claws is when she kneads my lap or her buddy is irritating her and she smacks him…I keep their claws trimmed.

Janet my veggie growing season is over until about the end of September. Then I get to plant my beets and new tomato plants. Beets I’ll harvest this winter but the tomato plants will give me a few tomatoes and then sort of hibernate until next spring. I know it sounds like we have such a long growing season but in northern FL we don’t. It’s about the same as up north but split in two - not much does well june-August. It’s too hot and wet.

Good morning!

It wasn't too hot outside this morning, so we got out there and did some heavy pruning and some......some......weed pulling........they are easily pulled, but nevertheless, have to bend to get the task done, and my back was starting to complain. We both came in and now relaxing until maybe later we'll go out again.....that's a big maybe, cause once we're in, we're usually in for the day until we have our java or meal outside later when it starts to cool down.

This came up on my F/B feed yesterday but couldn't copy from there so took it from Y/T! A breath of fresh air!

Hola .. :)

Pretty good off and on rain yesterday, so that was a good excuse to not work in the yard .. :)

So, what did I do .. ?? I spent some time meticulously removing the burnt on coffee residue that somehow, miraculously, builds up on the coffee maker hot plate .. old toothbrush and a citric acid solution .. tedious but effective .. then, I gave the old girl a good interior cleaning ..

Then, I oiled the hinges on the front and back door .. cleaned and oiled the deadbolts and door knobs, too ..

Lastly, I made a good size pot of Jambalaya and cooked some brown rice in the rice cooker .. I don't mix in the rice, I put it in a bowl and ladle the Jambalaya on top .. before settling in to do a re-watch of 'Avatar' on Disney+, which really has a spectacular picture quality .. :thumb:

Exciting, huh .. ??

Yeah, I make about 3 days worth .. I like it that much .. each time I eat some, I try and get all the shrimp out of the pot, since next day on a re-heat, they can get mushy, so I like to put new ones in .. you can't get fresh crawfish around here, or I'd use them too ..

If I'd have enough people, I'd do an old fashioned Lousiana Seafood Boil .. and dump it all out on a newspaper, the traditional way to just communally dig in ..

Good morning. Gonna be another hot and humid day here.

Yesterday was another no good, messed up, frustrating day with Verizon. The guy that came out was great, explained that some equipment went down and then that building was flooded (from Isaias) so the whole area is having trouble with maintaining internet connection. The office told him we'd be up by 7:15 last night so he didn't install the updated box because that needs internet connections so we'd loose the TV and phone. Instead he put us on the schedule to come back Wed. Couple hours later we got a notice from the big V that the internet would be fixed by Thurs, no tech needed so they cancelled the tech visit for Wed. What? The guy had given us his phone # and he confirmed he'd been cancelled and we'd need to call V back to reschedule to get the upgrade equip. installed. Meanwhile, we're running out of data time. Back on the phone with V on hold for 1-1/2 hr to get more data. I bet between the 2 of us we've been on hold for 12 hours so having to call V for anything is a huge headache. Not sure Comcast would be any better, but it's time to think about making a change.

Dang it, Janet (apologies to Rocky Horror!), not the continuing saga we wanted to hear! Anyone else in your area other than Verizon and Comcast?

Hot and humid here as well, but still no rain. Still promised for later in the week, but, well, yeah, we'll see. Likely if any does show up it will be north of us.

    Hola .. :)

I have to admit I'd never heard of the Weather term Derecho, however, one rolled thru yesterday evening, quickly, violently and wetly ..

Other terms that have come up in the last few years include .. Firenado (which sounds like a bad SyFy movie), Snowmageddon (another bad SyFy movie), Thundersnow (a James Bond Film .. ??), and Bomb Cyclone

@Janet H Wow, I don't know how you've kept it together with all that aggravation. Yea, agree that a new provider for you guys may be in the offing.

Spent most of my morning outside weeding and then just sat without my tablet watching birds, butterflies and hummers....very nice.
