Many of you likely already know that I am a Reader .. I cannot go to sleep at night without spending some time with a book .. I've been that way since I was a child, although it was particularly tough when I was in the Military to keep up that routine .. .. I've been boxing up some books for donation purposes over the last week or so, and, as I went, decided to keep a running list of material .. so, for gits and shins, here is what I consider the greatest Horror / Supernatural books I've ever read .. sorted by year .. I am not donating all of these, and the most chilling out of them all was "Song of Kali" .. feel free to contribute any of your own favorites, I am always on the scout for new material ..

While I have read a number of those on your list.....I have nothing to contribute... Movies are limited to what they can portray on a screen, whereas my imagination has no limits.. a book can scare the bejeezus out of me and I learned to steer myself away from reading too much horror...

I was a big Horror fan for a long, long time .. it just eventually got to the point where it seemed like it had all been done before .. there was nothing fresh .. it kind of went the same way with me on Sci Fi as well .. I still enjoy good Fantasy fiction in the vein of "Lord of the Rings" .. Historical novels / Bernard Cornwell are always great, lately, I've gone to sleep with Alternative History .. (no Strange Bedfellow Jokes, please .. )

I don't really know why I got into Alternative History, other than a suggestion from someone .. you'd think the Modern World Reality would be alternative enough ..

Made me think of a smudge pot

You all stirred up a memory from years ago. I was in a different place at that time but I did wrap sage and I burned it and waved it all around the house to to eliminate any kind of bad energy. And, that was called smudging. How he got to be a smudge I'll never know.

I'm gonna go get me some sage!

Been there, done that. Amazing how us Catholics wander, and still seem to substitute sage and incense for each other. Sometimes the sage is better.

Historical novels and Fantasy are my two favorites to read. I've always loved history and Fantasy, when well written, is a favorite because it's an escape from reality... Tad Williams is one whose books I like...

I like the Stephen R Donaldson books re Thomas Covenant, the unbeliever.

About 9 books.

I don't know how many times I have read those and the Tolkein works over and over

Never been a big fan of horror, just not my cuppa.

Historical fiction, check.
Sci-fi, check.
Fantasy, check.

Smudging... Pat smudged the house when we bought it, uh, about 26 years ago. We're on 1 1/4 acre, mostly still "native", i.e. a lot of trees. We've had many trees come down in wind/rain and ice storms over the years. One, with a rather large split half way up, came down across the driveway, beside my car (untouched), across the garden beds to have the V straddle the frost proof hose bib - also untouched.

Others have come down beside the house, beside the car, and, of course, many out where the only thing they could his was the ground. (The did.)

Re-roofed three years ago. The following year one came down on the house, of course in the middle of the night. Still about 1' diameter where it made contact. Scuffed some shingles, cracked the fascia. No holes.

She smudged again, a few weeks later

I don't have a Singing Bowl, although I do have a nice Gong .. but, I do smudge with a Herb fairly regularly .. .. I have thought about getting a Singing Bowl ..

Lovecraft was so ahead of his time .. Cthulhu could likely be considered the basis of so much that came later, not just writing, but movies / TV ..

Historical novels and Fantasy are my two favorites to read. I've always loved history and Fantasy, when well written, is a favorite because it's an escape from reality... Tad Williams is one whose books I like...

I recently purchased app. eight of Phillipa Gregory's Tudor series books...and I've managed to read every dang one in about two months! So I went to the library the other day and got three of Stephen King's books...yes...I'm a bookaholic

BTW...the only company I've had in my bed for many years now is the company of good books...saves a lot of pain n heartache for me..and most likely the..umm.. never mind...

On a side note...I broke my streaming box last week...please don't ask me how I managed to do that cuz I really don't know...so I've been limping along with an indoor antennae...horrible!!!...but today I was getting desperate so I started messing with the tv remote for my "smart" tv...and I finally figured out how to at least get Amazon Prime to work!!!


I gave myself all those cuz I'm very tickled with myself right now...Once in a blue moon my poor brain kicks into high gear!

Lovecraft was so ahead of his time .. Cthulhu could likely be considered the basis of so much that came later, not just writing, but movies / TV ..

I've heard so much about Lovecraft I finally picked up a collection of his stories. My, but that guy had an amazing vocabulary. I didn't finish it.
